First person shooter war, and the fanboys
This year there is a FPS war. Halo Reach is already out, but in November Black Ops, Medal of Honor and Goldeneye 007 (Wii) shall be coming out. There is no surprise that Halo Reach, and CoD fanboys will be going at it. They left some games out. Medal of Honor, and Goldeneye. I don't care too much for Medal of Honor, but Goldeneye could be the game that spark even more words between the fanboys.
I like Reach, but Goldeneye will be a buy for me. Well I shall look at the reviews first. If Goldeneye 007 lives up to it full potential then we might see Machinimas for it. From the info I seen, and heard the game is going to be like a shooter where health is regain automatically, but it can be change so that you pick up body armor. There will be 25 weapons and 40 playable characters(can't wait to own with Odd Job), and the story line shall be different.
We can already tell that Goldeneye > Bloodstone. Online shall have up to 8 players, and a ranking system. What Nintendo might not fail with online this time? I just hope the game will be balance, and have great multiplayer. There will be 4 control playing styles like Brawl. Screw the fanboys complaining about graphics.
Halo Reach is such an awesome game. If things end here because Bungie left then Halo when out with a bang. The story is great, and challenging. Multiplayer, and forge gets even better. Assassinations with the sword is just plain cool, and so much more. Halo is, and shall always be the best FPS on Xbox.
I'm not really into CoD, but I hope they fix the crap that was in MW2. Boosting, tactical insertions, and broken perks, and weapons. I like the older ones better because it felt like it took more skill, and the kill streak thing wasn't broken.
Anyway the fanboys destroy the true gamers rep. CoD is real like. (The weapons are, but many of the physics aren't.) Halo Sucks. It is all about Goldeneye. No the graphics on that game suck, and it is on Wii. How dare they changed the Bond. (The new Bond is being used for this game.) How come they don't put it on Xbox? etc

This is like trying to count the F-bombs in that one movie...
I'm happy with Battlefield 2 and Shaodwrun. Will look into Golden eye, as I think it would offer something new. Or something old that seems new.

Battlefield 2 isn't a shooter anymore. Its vehicle combat.Tolby wrote:I'm happy with Battlefield 2 and Shaodwrun. Will look into Golden eye, as I think it would offer something new. Or something old that seems new.
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat on the other hand is plenty good.

Mmm.... I never did like those games but since i've played resistance 1 and 2 along with killzone 1 and 2, I can say theyre pretty good, especially the graphics of killzone 2 it makes all the other video games graphics look like crap.Erranty wrote:I hope they get canceled.Killer77 wrote:lets not forget resistance 3 and killzone 3.

When will the gender-nonspecific fanpeople learn that all console FPSes are equally inferior to PC? You know, the reason most companies give for not supporting a mouse in that USB port all consoles have these days is that it will give players with mice an unfair advantage. So they cripple it. HAVE YOU EVER READ HARRISON BERGERON?!?!

Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
Gotta agree with you 98% on that. The other 2% is when FPS also have melee only modes like being a Jedi in Battlefront 2. Mouse just isn't good enough when it comes to doing something like that.Kuukai wrote:When will the gender-nonspecific fanpeople learn that all console FPSes are equally inferior to PC? Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
I don't think that part of the game would really qualify as "first person shooter.". Like if there's a flight sim in there I'd recommend controller swap.

Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
I'm not very excited about GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo Wii. From what I can tell this is just another remake trying to capitalize off of the nostalgia of an entire generation of fans who played the original on the Nintendo 64. They've been marketing the multiplayer pretty heavily and it has all but completely overshadowed the single-player part of the game. There's really nothing about this game that recommends it to me. Yeah, I loved the original, but I don't need a remake of it when there are so many other alternatives available (e.g. Source mods, emulators). In other words, it's a game that doesn't need to be made and I probably won't end up buying it.
Blood Stone on the other hand actually looks promising, and that's not something I can say very often about a James Bond game. Since it's not based on a movie the story will all be original content, and it looks like the developers are trying to create a hybrid of genres to implement this game. There's driving, shooting, and hand-to-hand combat. The CQC aspect looks pretty solid, though it's one of those things you would have to actually test yourself to get a feel for. The developers say they're trying to design a compelling Bond game that is driven more by the narrative than the usual firefight-to-firefight and complete objectives A and B scheme past Bond games have had. Aesthetically it's very nice, and overall it just seems like an interesting title that I'll be keeping my eye on. Normally I just ignore Bond games, but this one could be different.

Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
Well I hope Goldeneye doesn't suck. I hope it can still have the classic feeling.

Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
Was Goldeneye really good or just good compared to other console FPSes of the time? In my opinion it's easily outclassed by today's competition, which in spite of control issues at least matches PC in terms of graphics and features. Goldeneye never did....

Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
The only FPS's I play are TF2 and L4D2 <_<; I don't like games like Halo and such so I am not looking for any of them. Well I was looking forward to Metroid other M but I am not sure if that counts as a FPS. XD

Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
Its not so much about it being "good" as being "fun", which is where it outclasses many other FPS.Kuukai wrote:Was Goldeneye really good or just good compared to other console FPSes of the time? Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
I'm pretty sure that with a game "fun" and "good" are the same thing... The number of people playing it can be a factor but with Halo, etc. around Goldeneye will never be able to reclaim what it had when it was the only thing. Just look at Perfect Dark Zero. And at least that game involved some of the people who made the originals. This is a totally different company who was handed the logo (then again maybe that's a good thing). Besides, did I miss something? Did they ever make online play on the Wii not suck? Actual interaction with your opponent is extremely important to the demographic that will play Goldeneye. They're not breaking any new ground by bringing the game boldly into 1999. And the fact that this is one of those "it's also on DS! give us money!" games should sound warning bells.
Not that I don't think it's cool that something this weird happened. I'd love to see more of these absolutely inexplicable blasts from the past. But I still don't think it will be that good. Even Sin and Punishment wasn't great, not that I think it was entirely the game's fault. The Wii continues to depress me, so far I think the best actual "Wii" game I've played is either Warioware or Madworld... All the shooters make me miss real lightguns.
The sheer density of bad things I have to say about the Wii kinda makes this sound like a troll post, but I can't help it, this is what I think after trying my best to like the thing. I've played a lot of games, it hasn't helped...

Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
GoldenEye wasn't popular because it was the only first-person shooter on the market for the Nintendo 64, because it wasn't. There was also Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Doom 64, Hexen, and Duke Nukem 3D plus several other titles that were on their way for the following quarter. It was also released in 1997 which is why I'm not at all sure why it's being comparing it to recent releases. Part of the reason I dislike this remake is because it's a game that was designed for 13 years ago. That doesn't make it a bad game at all. It just means that the conventions have changed and it likely won't get the same fanfare it did back in 1997 when the environment was vastly different and online play was hardly a consideration for console multiplayer.
GoldenEye is remembered because of what it did for the first-person shooter genre. It was innovative, well-crafted, and fun. Even with other first-person shooters on the market and many for it to complete with in the following quarters, GoldenEye is still revered as one of the best first-person shooters to date in single-player and especially in multiplayer.

Oh yeah, and I've been looking forward to Brink for a while because of friend hype, but just saw a video and it looks like I wont just be playing for friends. The customization looks fun.

Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
I wasn't saying it was the only fps for n64 at the time, just that its class has expanded dramatically...
I agree with you. That's what I said in my first post...S1lentOp wrote:It was also released in 1997 which is why I'm not at all sure why it's being comparing it to recent releases. That's what you meant by "Goldeneye will never be able to reclaim what it had when it was the only thing?" I'm not even sure I know what you mean by "its class" either.Kuukai wrote:I wasn't saying it was the only fps for n64 at the time, just that its class has expanded dramatically...
Re: First person shooter war, and the fanboys
I mentioned PC shooters, obviously there's some level of hyperbole to "the only thing". I'm talking about games that ubiquitous and popular...
