Guess who getting the anime treatment?

Re: Guess who getting the anime treatment?
It sounds a lot like the Animatrix and Gotham Knight. It's weird that "anthology of short films by various Japanese studios based on a Western blockbuster" is such an established format... I'm not sure any of them really met expectations, though... (I liked them, but that's not something you often hear people say) Don't expect it to be remotely faithful to the original...

omfg, lol, I have a lot of respect for Shinji Aramaki, but damn, can't believe he's directing this. I wonder what the hell is the premise gonna be. I enjoyed appleseed and appleseed ex machina, he should just drop this project and work on something else.
Re: Guess who getting the anime treatment?
Production I.G. has made (or helped with) some of my favorite animes. So I'll hold out hope... until I find out its just an anime run through of the 3 games...

Master Chief will be a cyborg! I'm looking forward to this. It's gonna be a grand success or an utter failure.

I don't know why you would post a YouTube version of an HD GT Trailer instead of just the actual HD trailer, so here's the trailer in high definition.
GameTrailers HD Trailer
I don't have high hopes for this, although it does look pretty overall (except for the Prophet...)

It'll probably suck. Furthermore, the jockocracy masses that helped Halo sell so well don't give a **** about anime.

I have to agree. Most of the people I know that play Halo think anime is quote: "Gay asian cartoons".AuraTwilight wrote:It'll probably suck. Furthermore, the jockocracy masses that helped Halo sell so well don't give a **** about anime.
This is most likely just Microsoft trying to appeal to the Japanese market and hope that this will help raise sells for future Halo games.

In-depth article: http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/100/1007244p1.html
Studio 4C:
"Origins" - Two-parter covering the origin of the Halo Universe. It'll be narrated by a mystery character, and cover all the events in the past leading up to the end of Halo 3. Master Chief is shown being frozen in this short.
"Babysitter" - Covers the relationship between the ODSTs and the Spartans. Lots of character interactions and tension.
Toei:
"Odd One Out" - A non-canon gag short starring Spartan 1337. It's meant to be a fun silly action piece that parents who play Halo can show their younger kids without having to deal with the more violent and mature parts of the franchise.
Bones:
Current Untitled - A pure mecha porn action packed piece directed by Muraki and featuring experimental battle suit designs by Aramaki. The story is about a marine sent to a planet to destroy the experimental suit, but finds it overrun by the Covenant. So he suits up and uses it to defend the planet.
Production IG:
"Homecoming" - A female Spartan comes to terms with her origins as this short explores their history and culture. Traditionally animated.
"Duel" - A more artistic and experimental piece done in watercolor style, covering the first contact between Elites and the Covenant.
Casio Entertainment:
"The Package" - Full CG short about a group of Spartans delivering an unknown package into a Covenant ship. Filled with action packed space battles and gun fights. The episode might be split into two parts as well if the length is required. It is written by the writer of Cowboy Bebop (probably Dai Sato)

Just watched it, and I liked it of course. But I still don't know why they used so many art styles.Kuukai wrote:You might be interested in this too, then...

Re: Guess who getting the anime treatment?
It's just the different art styles that the director and animation team uses. Not all animes have to look the same you know.Erranty wrote:Just watched it, and I liked it of course. But I still don't know why they used so many art styles.Kuukai wrote:You might be interested in this too, then...

I'm going to echo AT's sentiments on the topic. I can't express to anyone here just how passionately ambivalent I am about this.

Uh, I think it's probably more for western audiences. In all cases, including this one, these things were done in English, released in America, and then maybe sent to Japan as an afterthought. Whatever the deal with Halo fans is, anime is very popular in America. It has its own section in virtually any store that sells video. A market doesn't get much bigger than that. I would wager thay there are a lot more Halo fans who would buy this than there are Japanese anime fans who would start playing console-based FPS's after watching this.
