First off-
Gabi- works but you use skill game froze.
Sakaki- works the same as Gabi.
Ovan- don't work.
Sirius- don't work.
Empire form Sage- don't work.
Wait, Sakaki works? Are you sure? He freezes whenever I warp to a field with him. Have you beaten the game? Some characters work differently at different parts.
Yeah the sam ewith me (except for Sakaki havent tried him yet) BUt i treid Sirius he doesnt work, Ovan he doesnt work either>>, i go to personal menu and the game freezes, Gabi works until i went to the arena and did a skill trigger and the game froze, also in the arena when it was time to fight Gabi just stood striaght with his sword sticking out of his side>>

Hello, excuse me I'm new to the forums and relavtively new to the series. Only discovered it within the last year.
I don't understand how to use the codes for the game... :? I tried to look but haven't really successfully found an explanation I understood. If someone could please explain or direct me to a page that tells how to use the codes I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

For anyone looking for something new, here, some CB codes I whipped up recently for myself. I'm not responsible if you screw up your game with these.

I have no idea how many of these Skiller found ahead of me, I'm just releasing them almost as-is (I added a few notes) because there are probably more than a few people who don't have these. I didn't write down every single code plain as day, but the codes that are missing yet should be there can be found with simple math for now. I might clean this up later, I dunno.

And yes, there are Skill Trigger codes in this batch. Yes, giving spells to characters like Sakubo works.

NOTE: Before you even get the idea, no, Matsu's broadsword doesn't work in Redemption.  You get the same crap you get with Gabi, Sophora and such (no in-battle animations, leads to freezes if Arts are used).  You will need a model change code to give him a working model like Haseo's 3rd and Xth forms (I know, it's not the same having a dupe Haseo with Matsu's voice, but there's nothing that can be done about it).  I'm not sure about Reminisce, but I assume it would work in that game.

I didn't look up the EXP of other characters' weapons, but I would assume that its (first weapon code value + 8h).  Also, if you change your lead character, you can use Haseo's form code to make him 1st or 2nd form in order to change your equipment without the game freezing.  I have no idea what 1st form will do to Lumina Cloth after Taihaku is defeated, however (the image of Haseo on the screen over the counter is form-dependent as well).

Yes, the values are the same as for the Skills menu, but if you don't want to visit Skiller's board, here are all of the ones I know will work:

Miscellaneous trigger notes:

- As long as the Art is valid, the game shouldn't freeze when going to an area.  However, if you don't have the right weapon and you're not playing Rebirth, using the wrong Art will still freeze the game.

- Spells can only be used on the Skill Trigger if you're using a Harvest Cleric, Shadow Warlock, or Macabre Dancer.  Anyone else will freeze, even with Lv. 1 spells.

- Skill Trigger spells don't do a lot of the stuff that physical Arts are capable of.  On Rengeki, they only do double damage, and on Hangeki in the Arena, they raise Morale.  However, they do not boost the counts for Rengeki in the Book of 1000 or trigger the appropriate Favorite quotes.  They can't raise the Counterattack count in the Arena (so a mage character can never S rank a fight; Counterattacks will always be 0).  They also don't even count as Skill Trigger attacks in the Forest of Pain.

Model values

NOTES: These values are only accurate for Haseo himself.  They change with each character, 00 being the default value and 01, 02, 03 being their alternate forms.  If you wanted to turn Endrance into Xth form Haseo, for example, you would need to break out your Windows calc or whatever, turn on Scientific mode, switch to hexadecimal, and plug in the following formula: 100h - ((character default value) - (new model value)) (the h is to signify a hex value, it has no more meaning than that)

For the example, Endrance becoming Xth Form would look like this: 100h - (24h - 03h) = DFh.  DF is the value for Endrance becoming Xth form!

For character models of a higher value, you simply subtract the new model's value from the default model's value.  The default value is always the first one listed.

Also note that I haven't experimented with turning Sakubo into another character.  His model value determines which personality is being used, and could potentially glitch with another character.  I'll edit this post when someone tries it and reports the result.

For Ovan's model, what few in-battle animations it had were deleted, but it does work otherwise.  The problem that freezes the game at menus lies with Ovan himself, so another character using a Steam Gunner weapon can become Ovan and still function... albeit in the same limited capacity as the unused Moon Tree captains like Sophora.

If you use a good model for a character whose animations were deleted, say, Gabi or unknown4, that character will be usable.  If you give Gabi Haseo's 3rd form, for example, he'll still be able to fight as an Edge Punisher and even have his in-battle Art names (yes, they were recorded despite the deletion).

One more thing; the weapon a character holds is VERY important to the model in use.  If you use the Endrance example as-is, the game will freeze every single time Endrance is loaded because Xth form can't use a blade.  You will have to change the weapon depending on who you switch to.

Model notes:

Haseo's 1st and 2nd forms, Sirius' AIDA form, Nala, Bordeaux's AIDA form, Sakaki's normal form, Hiiragi, and Sophora's hat form have had their in-battle animations deleted.  They cannot go to areas and ignore boundaries, so the only upside to using them is that they can go through the walls of root towns, Icolo and Canard and such.  They also ignore event triggers, so if you go into a guild or something with a non-door exit, you can't escape.

While each character has four values, most don't have alternate models, so the others are just repeats of the last new model.  Only Haseo is different in all four forms.

Again, Ovan is stuck with his locked up arm.  No Tri-Edge, no uninfected model. :(

For values, look up those addresses in the executable (because I haven't written them down yet). Each character already has their own value (three letters corresponding to their original Japanese name, i.e. yow (for Yowkow) = Alkaid), but only characters who join you normally will actually work. I didn't look up the EXP of other characters' weapons, but I would assume that its (first weapon code value + 8h).  Also, if you change your lead character, you can use Haseo's form code to make him 1st or 2nd form in order to change your equipment without the game freezing.  I have no idea what 1st form will do to Lumina Cloth after Taihaku is defeated, however (the image of Haseo on the screen over the counter is form-dependent as well).

Miscellaneous trigger notes:

- As long as the Art is valid, the game shouldn't freeze when going to an area.  However, if you don't have the right weapon and you're not playing Rebirth, using the wrong Art will still freeze the game.

- Spells can only be used on the Skill Trigger if you're using a Harvest Cleric, Shadow Warlock, or Macabre Dancer.  Anyone else will freeze, even with Lv. 1 spells.

- Skill Trigger spells don't do a lot of the stuff that physical Arts are capable of.  On Rengeki, they only do double damage, and on Hangeki in the Arena, they raise Morale.  However, they do not boost the counts for Rengeki in the Book of 1000 or trigger the appropriate Favorite quotes.  They can't raise the Counterattack count in the Arena (so a mage character can never S rank a fight; Counterattacks will always be 0).  They also don't even count as Skill Trigger attacks in the Forest of Pain.

Model values

NOTES: These values are only accurate for Haseo himself.  They change with each character, 00 being the default value and 01, 02, 03 being their alternate forms.  If you wanted to turn Endrance into Xth form Haseo, for example, you would need to break out your Windows calc or whatever, turn on Scientific mode, switch to hexadecimal, and plug in the following formula: 100h - ((character default value) - (new model value)) (the h is to signify a hex value, it has no more meaning than that)

For the example, Endrance becoming Xth Form would look like this: 100h - (24h - 03h) = DFh.  DF is the value for Endrance becoming Xth form!

For character models of a higher value, you simply subtract the new model's value from the default model's value.  The default value is always the first one listed.

Also note that I haven't experimented with turning Sakubo into another character.  His model value determines which personality is being used, and could potentially glitch with another character.  I'll edit this post when someone tries it and reports the result.

For Ovan's model, what few in-battle animations it had were deleted, but it does work otherwise.  The problem that freezes the game at menus lies with Ovan himself, so another character using a Steam Gunner weapon can become Ovan and still function... albeit in the same limited capacity as the unused Moon Tree captains like Sophora.

If you use a good model for a character whose animations were deleted, say, Gabi or unknown4, that character will be usable.  If you give Gabi Haseo's 3rd form, for example, he'll still be able to fight as an Edge Punisher and even have his in-battle Art names (yes, they were recorded despite the deletion).

One more thing; the weapon a character holds is VERY important to the model in use.  If you use the Endrance example as-is, the game will freeze every single time Endrance is loaded because Xth form can't use a blade.  You will have to change the weapon depending on who you switch to.

Model notes:

Haseo's 1st and 2nd forms, Sirius' AIDA form, Nala, Bordeaux's AIDA form, Sakaki's normal form, Hiiragi, and Sophora's hat form have had their in-battle animations deleted.  They cannot go to areas and ignore boundaries, so the only upside to using them is that they can go through the walls of root towns, Icolo and Canard and such.  They also ignore event triggers, so if you go into a guild or something with a non-door exit, you can't escape.

While each character has four values, most don't have alternate models, so the others are just repeats of the last new model.  Only Haseo is different in all four forms.

Again, Ovan is stuck with his locked up arm.  No Tri-Edge, no uninfected model. :(

Hey, ZED, I've been watching your videos, and I have a couple of questions...

How do you change names (Like in your custom class video)? And, if you can do this, could you theoretically change any text in the game, like changing area words, or even NPC dialogue?

Also, about the .hack//G.U. attack skills demonstration. I noticed how you used characters like Sophora, Sakaki, Sirius, and Taihaku, and kept their voices. This was done with the model-change code, right? But, doesn't that use the other character's voices, or Haseo's, or whatever?

I haven't had a chance to try out the model change codes yet, so forgive me if I'm being a little slow. (<w<;;)

The names are pretty easy to do as far as the subscreen, but I haven't written down anything on them because I just look in PS2DIS in order to change text. These names are stored in two locations; one is for names seven characters and under and the other is anything over that. Sophora took some extra work since my name broke the seven character limit; I looked up the name, which is at 4C5B60h, then searched the executable for the address of the name (I put 60 5B 4C 00 into the search box and checked As hex string). I found two pointers to that address, so I wrote two separate codes to repoint the game to unknown4's name since a) unknown4 doesn't show up unless you want it to and b) he had the room for me to write in. Since I used Sophora in Redemption, this works out because you only ever see the name at the subscreens, when you let a PC die at a Battle Area, and when you talk to Melo Grunty at the Moon Tree @HOME (and only in Melo Grunty's case would there still be reference to Sophora's true name, aside from the Gomora raid at Morrigu Barrow maybe). If you change Haseo's name the same way, this won't be reflected everywhere else automatically because his name is written out every single time it's needed; there is no shortcut character or anything since you aren't supposed to change the name. That goes for everyone else as well; it's pretty obvious CC2 had no concerns for space conservation. Azure Kite might've had one if his name were ever put in text.

For the weapon, the gibberish wasn't because of a bad pointer or anything, there really is just gibberish where the name and description would be. I simply overwrote it.

Now, as for what you can change, if it's in the executable, you can definitely change it yourself. Area words and NPC dialogue are included in that (I believe Skiller had a project going for NPC stuff), along with quotes for characters both outside and in battle (the text quotes, including stuff for Favorites). I don't know if it's possible to add new quotes where none existed before (i.e. giving Gaspard a killshot Favorite quote), I haven't experimented with them yet. Stuff like e-mails (I think, I haven't found them yet) and message board posts are in different files. You'd have to ask Skiller or someone else experienced in non-improvised PS2 hacking about those. Literally all of my new codes come from deduction of stuff already found and from data corruption through patch codes, using Skiller's work to find target areas to search. Well, save for the status screen portraits which I found by dumb luck playing around with the animation files (I'm still looking for a way to play as Tri-Edge):

For values, look up those addresses in the executable (because I haven't written them down yet). Each character already has their own value (three letters corresponding to their original Japanese name, i.e. yow (for Yowkow) = Alkaid), but only characters who join you normally will actually work. Some, like Sophora, will still have a loading icon over their small HP/SP portrait excerpt, but the status screen works just fine when changed to Silabus or whoever. Using this, you should be able to see any character's status screen, even unknown4's (who I didn't know was a Blade Brandier, but after looking at animation file names, I think the reason why is because Blade just happens to be a default setting and unknown4 was never altered to be anybody in particular). I also know where the codes are for changing character guild associations at the status screen, but I've been too lazy to pinpoint exactly where they are and what not since it doesn't change anything otherwise (to my knowledge).

The model change codes were used in the demo, but only in the cases of Sophora and Sirius. For Sophora's actual appearances though, it was only used to remove her hat if at all. In the other two cases, she took on 3rd form Haseo for the big Reaper's Trifecta finish and for Zan Rom, donned Ovan's look for his cameo appearance. Ovan himself has a problem with freezing the game at menus in Redemption and couldn't be used, but I really wanted him in a Shino clip, so using him required a stand-in. I tend to recruit Sophora for those jobs. Now, yes, Sophora does use Haseo's voice, but that's just how things work. She really does use Haseo's grunts and Die! quote once you take control of her in either Reminisce or Redemption, yet when you use a Cleric or lv. 1 attack spell she suddenly uses her own voice just for that instead. I don't think there's an explanation for that and I think at least a couple other Moon Tree captains do the same thing.

Sirius had to be done at least for the Arena match. Once you're free to do Survival and Limit battle, Sirius has lost his AIDA infection, and he can never fight in his normal form. The AIDA form must be restored to get him into an Arena match. Sadly, Demise Claw can't be activated even if you get Orca and Balmung into the team and Hangeki your way to a full Morale gauge; I kinda hoped that wouldn't be the case, though that has nothing to do with this demo. :( Another case of model change was in the case of Bo since I kept using a save where Saku was the one available. 2nd form Haseo using a quick weapon change wasn't through model change, but form change... though either could have been used to the same effect depending on where you are in Reminisce.

I don't think the model change code was used otherwise, though had I gotten the idea in my head sooner, I would have used Zelkova's Doppelganger for Reaper's Dance. No, I don't mean Anti-Existence (that was the plan for Piros' Heavenly Rage, but the bastard couldn't say the skill name), I mean Doppelganger; since Haseo can use dual swords and scythes, Alkaid and Zelkova have Doppel models ready for the Anti-Existence battles, and Doppel can use Heine's Invasion and Heine's Zero, it is possible to change Doppelganger into either of those two characters by changing Haseo's model and making sure he has the right weapon. I might still have that video of Zelkova fighting his Doppel on my laptop if anyone would want to see it.

As for Sakaki and Taihaku, the explanation is the same as why I have Matsu using his broadsword for Armor Pierce; I filmed clips from all three games. Taihaku was obviously filmed in Redemption, Sakaki made his appearance in Reminisce and Matsu and Gabi were given their chance to show Edge Punisher pride in Rebirth. This wasn't just done where I had to revert to an earlier volume, but in several cases to change up the voices used. For example, Gaspard uses OrRue Kruz in Reminisce, but casts OrGan Bolg in Redemption. Lotus Flower was obviously the only Flick Reaper Art taken from Reminisce, while Alkaid got to span all three games just like Haseo (Sparrow Counter in Rebirth, Chaotic Strike w/ Sophora in Reminisce, Lv.3 Arts in Redemption). I still have the cast file that lists all of this if you're curious.

So basically, changing Text is a lot easier with a dump file, right? And to do that, do I need to use hex values and such for each character used in the dump, or do I just need to type it out? I'm guessing it's hexes, but I'm just curious, because I don't have a dump. Would I be able to change names with a code?

Alright, I didn't realize you used the different games, sorry! :) But I would like to see the cast list, if possible. I'm also interested in the Zelkova Doppelganger video. Does this mean that any character that uses one of the same weapons as Haseo can have a Doppelganger, while the others, such as Piros, can use their Anti-Existance? Or were you just going to record Piros's Anti-Existance using the skill? And is it possible to play as them? I remember awhile back, someone was trying to convert a code to Action Replay, and they ended up playing as (I beleive) a Doppelganger of Haseo's Xth Form.

I could have sworn Taihaku's character froze whenever I tried to use him. I guess I'll have to try it again! xD

Also, do you have a link to skiller's project? I know I used to have it, but I lost it a while back...

Sorry if I'm asking a lot of the same questions again, but I'm finding it hard to wrap my head around this...

All of my changes were done with a Codebreaker, which is why I have 48 codes in play to change Sophora into ZED. I guess if you use a dump file or whatever, you can just type it out, but I wouldn't know about that.

If the game is left out, it usually means the clip is from Redemption, but in cases such as Sakaki, it means I used the only game where they're available. Matsu's Armor Pierce would have been in Reminisce, but he kept freezing the game before I even got to town. I'm not really sure what the problem was; Pi did the same thing in Rebirth. :\

A few other changes made to the original include Gabi not having an active role in any of the Edge Punisher skills (he was to be the one on Tiger Blitz, but I didn't know he couldn't hit and that he was mute in Rebirth; he isn't in Redemption if you give him a working model), Grein and Sophora swapping the need for partners (I thought Sophora would speak and Grein wouldn't on Arts, but it turned out that the opposite is true), AIDA Bordeaux being replaced (I like the way she says Razor's Edge in Redemption, but she didn't have anywhere near the same vigor in Reminisce), Haseo and Kite no longer being paired up on Hellfire (I wanted Kite to "speak" on his own for one of the Twin Blade Arts, but ultimately I simply let him lead in Flight of the Falcon instead of Haseo, where he's still pretty clear over the other voices and sound effects), and some changes to the Steam Gunner lineup when I found out Taihaku worked just fine in Redemption. I read somewhere he was never supposed to take the lead, but I didn't have a single problem with him in that position. I'm not sure where that theory came from; he's much more troublesome as a teammate because his AIDA aura doesn't work properly outside of the title match.

No, unfortunately Doppel is limited to the Heine's series of weapons and the Dopple Dual Gun (basically DG-0), so if you try to use someone like Endrance, Doppelganger will freeze the game since he doesn't have a compatible weapon.

That person made the claim that he got it in Reminisce along with having a black/green Shino. Either he was lying or the codes he used were radically different from anything cooked up before because of a very bad conversion. Unfortunately, it's extremely likely that he was just trolling since he kept making excuses and stalling when it came to code requests. And it isn't possible to play as the Anti-Existence; there is a very limited model selection with the current code that only encompasses the available characters. Other PC's and the Doppelgangers can't be accessed with the code in its current state AFAIK. Since I kept getting bad freezeups, I just assumed that whatever data the code accesses is hitting a bad patch between Natsume and Haseo. The same thing occurs with unknown4's values. A "bad" freezeup is that the game freezes much sooner than it would with a good model using an incorrect weapon. With towns for example, the game freezes soon after loading the landscape pic with a bad model. With an incorrect weapon, the game freezes just as the loading screen is prepared to disappear.

It'll happen in Rebirth and Reminisce to my knowledge, though that knowledge is second hand; I don't know if its the model or Taihaku himself that causes the freezes. It could very well be the same as Ovan's case in Redemption where its the actor's fault, not the model's. Again, I had no problems with Taihaku in Redemption, so you should be fine. I only used Taihaku in the postgame, so that may have had something to do with my good luck.

Final note: There doesn't appear to be any data here to determine how certain
special 3rd words, such as Moonlight, act.  You can completely replace a word
with another and it will only acquire the common functions and name.
Furthermore, these keyword properties appear to have no control over whether
they redirect to a lost ground or other special area via a specific keyword set,
though there is the Forest of Pain anomaly and the fact that Moon Tree dungeons
have doors that lead to the real Guild area.
I did minimal testing on these and a lot of it was simply deduced by comparing the data with the Keyword guide. I kinda lost interest when I realized that beyond the Forest of Pain and the Moon Tree dungeon access anomalies, I wasn't going to get anywhere. I sure would like to know where that Arche Koeln area type leads, but there's not much of a chance I'll ever find out. :\

This isn't the end of it however; there is a set of unnamed dummy keywords in Redemption that I'm very curious about, and as the notes say, despite the fact that I copied the properties of the keywords over to usable words, event areas and lost grounds aren't controlled by individual properties. There's no way to know if they can do anything unless I unlock the words themselves, so that will be my next target.

well i could see if i can find the actual Words section im guessing the above code only mods the Words and does not actualy give u them to pick from ? if u cant Check it i will see what i can do ..

Exactly; those codes merely alter the properties in the executable, but only the general properties. I can make one word act like another in terms of creating areas, but even if I did something like turn the word Buzzing into Hidden, I won't suddenly be able to get to Hulle Granz by heading to Delta: "Buzzing" Forbidden Holy Ground. Event area combinations are completely unaffected, and special 3rd word effects like Moonlight are also independent of these properties even if you corrupt the loading routine for 3rd words. I did this and the game loaded Courageous in place of each 2nd and 3rd word, but while my example area, Concealed Joyous Moonlight, was almost completely different as a result, Doppelganger still showed up immediately as usual.

Also, the info is potentially a little incorrect, so I'm labeling a couple pieces of complete guesswork to be safe. I really shouldn't have posted it in the shape it's in in the first place, but like I said, I lost interest when I found out I couldn't achieve my main objective this way and got sloppy (originally it was altering how lost grounds and such were accessed, now it's accessing the dummied keywords). Aside from Moon Tree and Forest of Pain access, there's not very much these codes can do that's worth caring about (aside from creating new Cloister dungeons with an element not almost always Light or Dark). :\

I may still try to find them myself, but given my only means of finding new stuff is data corruption with the use of patch codes, I'd be kinda shocked if I found them first.

well i found the section that gives u the words. iv also found another way to mod what word it is that your using .. but having all words .. Kinda Cuts this out .. i will have to make a Sub code to implement. this i might do this tonight ..

If it's going to take a long time to make the sub code, why not go ahead and post the other method? I'm only interested in the one set of keywords anyway, and I can't imagine that the values necessary would be difficult to figure out.

Are there any useful Action Replay MAX codes for .hack G.U Redemption? If so, may I be directed, or may I see an example of some codes here and where to find them?
