Well techincally its just called Transformers. But I didn't want to get it confused with the game based on the hit movie.
As the title says this game is based on Transformers Armada, but without the kids. Basically its a shooter type game that has no lock on ability. So you constantly have to aim with the right analog stick as you run around and try to avoid enemy fire. The objective is the go to variouse drop zones and find Mini-Cons and data disks called Data-Cons. And at a certain point in the area you get into a boss fight with one of the Decepticons. You can play as either Optimus Prime, Hot Shot, or Red Alert. And of course because its a Transformers game each Autobot can change into a vehicle.
Basically I've had this game for over a year. It sat in my To Play Pile tell I ran out of RPG's and decided to give it a try.
This one is pretty short. Only took me about 15 hours to beat. But otherwise it was pretty good.
Many of the mini-cons have usefull abilities. Like improving the characters blaster or giving you a missile launcher by using the R2 button. Others give you abilities like sheilds and melee improvements. One in particular gives you the ability glide while another gives you the ability to see unfound Mini-Cons and Data-Cons, which comes in handy cause some of them are well hidden. Also each Autobot has a Mini-Con that follows them around and assists in combat by firing at the enemy or can Power Link with the Autobot which slows the game down and gives you more time to aim and fire at fast moving targets.
Most of the enemies are called Decepti-Clones, which are basically mass produced nonliving robots that blow up if you give them enough damage. Some of them are pretty darn tuff. The Bosses are real Decepticons like Starscream, Cyclonus, Tidal Wave, Megatron and finally Unicron. The Battle with Unicron was the hardest of all because you flying around Cybertron chasing Unicron and the controls are hard to get used to.
Some of the built in cheats are funny. Like going into Big Head mode gives everyone overly huge heads.
The Data-Cons unlock varriouse things in the extra's are on the games start screen. You get things like production art, sound tracks, and even the little lesson segments from the original show, like Bumblebee convincing a kid not to run away or Tracks teaching a teenager that steeling cars is wrong. Even a few Promo pics for Transformers Energon.
All in all this was a pretty good game. If your into shoot'em up type games then you'll love this one

Re: Transformers Armada
I just wish that there were more autobots to play as, and that all the decepticons were the correct colors. Other than that I loved this game.
I only wished that the PS2 game based on the original Transformers cartoon would come here, it was pretty good.

Actually the characters colors where accurate with the Armada characters. But I do agree that they needed more Autobots to play as. And it would have been nice if they had the Mini-Con gimmics that they had in the show like Hot Shot getting a Cannon out of his back when Jolt linked with him or the gun that Red Alert got when his Mini-Con linked with him. And I really would have liked to see Optimus combine with his trailer for his Super Mode.Gemcrim wrote:I just wish that there were more autobots to play as, and that all the decepticons were the correct colors. I especially would have liked it if they had those Mini-Con Teams that could combine into a weapon, like the Star Saber, Skyboom Sheild, and Requiem Blaster. I would have loved to just go around and hack the Decepti-Clones to bits with the Star Saber. Or maybe use the Requiem Blaster like a sniper rifle and take out targets from a distance, like from the top of a mountain or tall hill. Maybe even use the Skyboom Sheild for defence and then ride on it like a flying surf board, since it looked like a jet in a way.
It would have been better if they had that arctic boss be Demolisher instead of Starscream. Fighting Starscream 2 times didn't seem right to me.
And I too would love to play that game based on the Original Cartoon. If only for the fact that I loved the original as a kid.
