I couldn't help but notice that Dead or Alive wasn't on there (It's a big one to miss).
Anyways, it depends on what kind of fighting I want to play. If I want one with powers or carnage, than Mortal Kombat all the way. There's nothing like beating the crap out of your best friend and then rubbing it in his face by ripping out his character's spine through his throat.
If I want something cleaner or more 'realistic' (I use that term loosely), then I look at something like Dead or Alive.

Shouldn't Marvel vs. Capcom count as part of the Street Fighter and Darkstalkers series, since the characters from those entries fight exactly like they do in their own games? I think I will change MvC to Darkstalkers, seeing as noone has voted for that yet. If you like that game the best, vote for either Street Fighter or Darkstalkers.
I long for combat! It really depends on the mood I'm in as to which game I'm wanting to play, but Soul Calibur would probably have to be my favorite. I'm one of those that think SC3 is just as good as the previous installment if not better. And I can drop you like a sack of dirt with Cassandra.

I've always liked the Soul Calibur series, starting back when it was called Soul Edge (or Soul Blade) on the PSX
so I'm gonna have to pick SC! Kickass characters with kickass weapons

This was tough, it was between SoulCalibur and Super Smash for me.

I am like zaraki kenpachi-so long as i'm fighting, i'm enjoying it.
As for which one is my fav out of them, definatly the one where you defeat the guys by using anything.
I'll go with supersmash bros. simply because its simplistic and gives you something unique in the way of defeating your opponent.

Its gotta be DOA for me. Not only are the graphics a beast but the combat system is still very versatile. You can just counter the whole fight and take down your opponent. Then theres the levels. There isnt a greater enjoyment, at least to me, than jump kicking your foe off the roof and he flops all the way to the ground.

For great 2-d fighting GUILTY GEAR all the way. Lets Rock!!
Re: Soul Calibur II [What's your favorite fighting game?]
There's too many games there I like to pick just one...Soul Calibur III brought SIGFRIED BACK! At which point I promptly began kicking the crap out of all the Nightmare users I could find with him. Nevermind the probably hundred or so hours my freinds and I all killed fighting each other and then with created characters....
Tekken. I can't even begin to tell you how much time my friends and I have killed playing this game....
STREET FIGHTER....Um...Ken FTW! (Old school SF forever)
DOA...I can't say I'm great at it anymore but another significant chunk of what probably could've been more productive time was spent playing DOA3 and 4. So my vote? um..All of them? lol j/k Guess I'll go with SC

Re: Soul Calibur II [What's your favorite fighting game?]
Soul Calibur III is broke, and so is the PS2 version of GG: AC.
I would vote SF but no one ever plays that anymore and there havent been a new game out for ages, but I have to go for GG even though its like SF there are a ton of them. There are about 7+ GG games out for those who dont believe me.
Guilty Gear
Gulity Gear X
Guilty Gear XX Reloaded
Guilty Gear Isuka
Guilty Gear ----- (this is the one I cant name)
Guilty Gear Accent Core
Guilty Gear Dust Strikers
+ a couple on the Wonderswan and mobiles.
XD.

Re: Soul Calibur II [What's your favorite fighting game?]
My overall favorite is Tekken hands down no debate. I play it in arcades, I watched the uncut endings, the graphics aren't good, though the fighting and very interesting characters made up for it. Hello? You get to use a kangaroo! Once you take my favorite outfit choices, you're dead.
Soul Calibur was the ****. The second sucked. And the third was good. The very first Soul Calibur...well, I didn't play it.
Guilty Gear is cool. Mainly 'cuz of Bridget.
I had to crack that.
Super Smash Bros. is fun for parties and a better way to get into a fight with your cousin.
Mortal Kombat was just gorey. Fun as a kid, but now it's bleh. I don't give a crap.
Virtua Fighter is a VERY good fighting game, especially Virtua Fighter 5 (me and my Ate went ga-ga as hell over it). Probably one of the best 3-D fighting games out there. Though, it's a pain to master. This game is NOT newbie friendly.
DoA was a piece of crap to me. Just so I don't have to debate about it, I thought it just sucked balls. Sure, it's popular and all and has pretty graphics, but I'm trying to focus on fighting, and the fighting system wasn't too good (though it did get decent in DoA 4) and bore me.
Street Fighter is a classic and I respect it a lot. It's just not my favorite.
King of Fighters was fun, especially Shiranui Mai.
Good distraction for opponents. But still not my favorite.
