Yeah, I prefer GU also. Because unlike IMOQ, it's not just dungeon diving for four games. There's the arena, and AIDA, etc. But would it kill Haseo to not yell at someone in Rebirth?

Ppl ppl, I say G.U. is better but I would have never know about it if it wasnt for IMOQ, so yeah G.U. is better becuz the game programers and storymaker got better, and is there wasnt any IMOQ there wouldnt be any G.U.

I love the cell shading in G.U. The graphics are great, and there's enough variety of content to keep me playing and enjoying it. I just wish my character wasn't such a jackass most of the time.

There are so many topics like this already. >_>

I'm about to ramble. Don't take this as an argument. I just get really hyped up when I think about the differences between Project .hack and .hack Conglomerate.

Amen!

People were still falling into comas--at least six of them, from what I can remember. GU amplified the number of people falling into comas to the point where it's no longer realistic (and what the heck is up with that AIDA tumor thing?), which is a shame since the realism was what drew me to .hack in the first place.

With the older stuff--Sign, IMOQ, Liminality--it's so realistic, you can just fall right into it.

Plus, it's much more mysterious. GU is a straightforward adventure that throws twists at you, but what I love about IMOQ is that you're guessing with bated breath at every second.

And in IMOQ, you need to think and strategize--not just for the story, which is a philosophical masterpiece, but even for the battles and the way you proceed through your missions.

GU isn't philosophical. What I liked about .hack was how it used technology to create a state in which you exist solely as a conscious being. With the way it focused on coma victims and even Tsukasa being trapped in The World, the old .hack stuff also proved that reality comes from within and your mindset has a large influence over your circumstances, just as much as natural law does.

All the depth of .hack went down the drain with GU. Now it's just a story about unbelievable things happening to unbelievable people. It sort of makes me sad that players prefer this kind of story to the fascinating story of the old .hack installments, which really called for you to apply yourself and read between the lines...but you can't change other people's opinions, and I definitely wouldn't try. Just stating my own. I still like GU, but I'd take a deep and innovating story over an interesting, but overly-dramatic and cliche story anytime. (GU's story really is a cliche, if you think about it, because the "Save-the-princess-discover-the-truth" thing has been done many times before. It just happens to be remade in a brilliant way, but even a brilliantly remade story is a remade story.)

In a nutshell:

IMOQ > GU

For me.

I just wish IMOQ had been compiled into one game, not four, and had more sidequests. But the story, intrigue, mystery, strategy-based gameplay, and how completely realistic everything feels is what propels IMOQ ahead of GU.

IMOQ vs. GU

Post by Sol »

I think both IMOQ and GU had their intellectual value and entertainment value. I refrain from saying 'philosophical' because that leads to ideas that move away from what philosophy really concerns: human beings.

For IMOQ the entire project was very interesting, even if the characters and storyline weren't as exagerated as GU. In IMOQ the player follows what is basically a "How To Make A Human" guide, but instead of a human it is an AI. The Phases provided insight into the motivating factors of any human life, mainly the Terror of Death and The Rebirth.

With careful investigation it is easy to see how death is motivation for humans; humans wish to avoid the unknown finitude and horror of their expiering condition, one where death is the ultimate destiny awaiting them. The Rebirth and its three facutlies, human emotions towards life and towards death -supposedly including the symbolic nature man attaches to them- and the idea of a pure heart, this being well represent by Corbenik's eye form. Supposedly this would hint at the idea of a Third Eye.

The fact that a fourteen-year-old goes through this journey for the sake of a friend shows an incredible amount of basic human compassion.

GU, although flashy, merits very strong points in that it is not concerned with ideas, but is instead focused on human relationships. The latter may be more important than any philosophy one could develop. In a way, Haseo is subject to the terror of death, as he cannot accept the 'death' of Shino and antagonizes outside forces for it. Through his journey Haseo takes all aspects of humanity into himself -these being the other Phases- and is able to come out a more reasonable person.

I have to agree with Annwyn and Sol. I was going to go into a big thing about why I think what I think, but then I realized I was just going to repeat what they said, so I'll just keep it short.

I just liked IMOQ's style. Yes, G.U looks better and everything, but it just seems like it was done that way so that it could get a wider audiance (though I really liked it when they had those typical anime expressions. Ex: when Haseo calls Pai an 'old hag')

G.U is awsome, but it just isn't IMOQ.

The characters in G.U. are so much more interesting than the ones in IMOQ. And the gameplay is better and is a little different each volume as well. Seriously I can't play IMOQ anymore. Thats how bad I think it is compared to G.U. All IMOQ had was the plot, thats about it.

IMOQ was great. I loved that game(s) despite what people say about it. But still, I think G.U. wins. Avatar battles are enjoyable, the graphics are highly improved, more comedic moments, and more characters that add great significance to the story. I'm not so sure if I'd say the gameplay, because I fairly like the gameplay in IMOQ. Although I suppose it's a lot easier and fun in G.U. ... although it can get a bit too easy. Still, I'm going to have to vote for G.U. ^^;

I haven't played Vol 3 yet so can't pass full judgment on G.U. as a whole until then.

But for right now IMOQ = Reminisce >>>>> Rebirth

Let's break it down here.

IMOQ>G.U. in story, but G.U.>IMOQ in gameplay.

I would have voted IMOQ, but then I remembered that if it wasn't for the awesome story I would have gotten bored with it. IMOQ was all about mashing X. I mean, if you wanted to get creative you could Kite and enemy, allowing you to press X TWICE AS FAST!! ( :? )

I like GU better because the gameplay isn't as tedious. Plus, you get Data Seeds from the story, and not through hunting down a crapload only to find out that the next field needs to be hacked, so you have to go back and hunt more cores that you CAN NEVER FIND. THAT'S RIGHT, VIRUS CORE F. I'M LOOKING AT YOU.
