You mean to say, that all the buttons work for it? I thought it was only the "X" button...
If you managed to get 38 in only 4 seconds with ONLY the X button, you are a godly buttonmasher.
Thats me ^^ until now i just been mashing the x button

I think I broke the R1 button playing Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. Perfect Guarding is a **** on that game, cuz you can only get certain materials that way.
And once, my sister tore the skin on her hand when playing Dragon Ball Z: Budokai. It happened when she was rotating the analog stick super fast for this one fight. It didn't bleed or anything, but you could see where it was missing skin. It was like a really thin layer on the top, so it didn't hurt or anything.
Except for the R2 button part, yeah my left analog stick stort of gets stuck when i move in upwards.. its really annoying

I got 92 in 6 seconds, the reason how I got that was well I did the same trick you do in DBZ Budokai 3 where you move both analog as fast as you can and I also pressed the buttons like crazy.
I turn the controller so that I can get 2 fingers from both hands on tri, square, circle, and X.
best: 6secs: 81 beats.
how?: I Take a really deep breath once I start mashing. The deep breath actually helps...no really.
