Post by Gardenia »

I think my old drawings are not so good.
This time,I'll work harder.
And I won't post anything stupid.

I'd like to thank everyone for the comments on my old topic,
and a special thanks to Tsuki,Karma,Aku and Snowie.
I learn alot, and I think i'm getting better thanks to you guys.

Anyway,Here's my drawings, with my new improved style.

"Birds"

i like this very much but now a few small critiques. more work on the hand, many people forget that fingers have 3 joints not 2. also, the headline should not extend to her neck but to the jaw line. The angle of her face is tilted nicely but i would work on her expression. not so sure what its supposed to be looking at hor how it feels. I very much like the ruffles in the clothes and the knee shouldnt be as pointed but overall it's a lovely picture. a great improvement

Teh drawz!

I really like this one. She looks sweet. I'd like to see the bird fleshed out in more detail, though.

EDIT: Thumbs up to Aera for the well thought out critique.

I agree with Marth, she is very quite and innocent looking. =)

If you look at the birds on the background..
teehee, yea i know, only a lil kid would draw birds flying like that.
But I think it looks neat that way.

The bird on her hand has a name.
It's "Nine tails".

I do know that fingers have 3 joints, but I don't know how to draw it yet.

What is a "headline" ?..

I understand why you drew the birds like that, most likely to ease up on the work you had to put into the drawing.

No,she is -not- Epitaph Wavemaster.
The necklace says "EW" and it does stands for Epitaph Wavemaster though.
Because E.W. is the main site I always visit.

She is just a random girl, maybe even a princess inside a castle.

I do have more pictures available, but..
hehe, it's for someone's birthday, and it's not time yet.
I wont risk it, she might come to this site !!

Actually Aera, I have to disagree about the hands. It looks as if the hand should be like that and that the 3 joints were put into effect. On one of the fingers it looks as if it is bending upwards, which would suggest Gardenia knows what he is doing. I might be completely wrong and it was just a simple coincidence, but even if he did forget about the joints or had no knowledge of them, in this picture it wouldnt have been needed. But this is no offence to you Miss Aera, I simply disagree with the hand statement.

I can only critic a couple of things cause i dont notice much at the moment.

1. All you characters heads appear to constantly be in 'almost' the same position. You should experiment more. I put almost in bracettes because the positions are not exactly the same, maybe the word i shouldve used was perspective... i dunno.

2. The eyes are almost always the same as well as the character style. Variety is the spice of live, no? You should try to incorporate many different styles into your pieces not just one style, even if that is what your most comfortable with. You seem to have become very adpet at this style (which im assuming was self taught much like my style) meaning you should try and learn other styles. A drawing shouldnt always be cute, correct. This style wouldnt suit a very dark picture now would it. I believe you should practice other styles.

3. The one leg seems a little ackward because it is coming directly towards the viewer. IRL this will almost never happen. In order to make the drawing feel real you should try to incorporate real life style into this cartoony style to make it the best it can be. The leg would be more curved toward the other leg and wouldnt be facing perfectly forward, more like a slant and a semi diagonal perspective could make it seem more real.

Thats all ive got right now. Once I get out of my drawing slump I suggest we become friends, I have a feeling we could learn a lot from each other.

Unless your hands are double-jointed like mine, then, you have like 6 in each finger. lolz

Everyone has their weaknesses, and mine is..
well, I tend to draw the same thing.
The 3/4 is my favorite head position , and i have to admit , it's the easiest.
But I will try to change that, thanks.

Again,I like those kind of eyes.
To me,a drawing MUST be cute.
Yes, everything was self taught,so I'm used to the way i draw.
I guess...my drawing is getting boring,huh?
I always try to work to make the best costumes and make it cute,
But i never thought about changing the face and eyes.
To me,it's perfect that way. It's my style and it's cute !
However,yea...i'll keep your advice in mind, the next time.

Yea, i'd be glad.
I'll be waiting for more of your drawings !

And unlike you Gardenia, my eyes are always changing. It's because I'm not good at replicating, so I can't exactly draw the same thing again.

I've made this one for "Karma"
I'm sure most of you know her,
She is the best artist, and my sensei !

So,your drawings must be fun to look at, always something different.
But...you better get a fixed style,if you want to make an animation, teehee.

Good job! Having a different style all the time is a style on it's own. You see?

It's a good thing.
Well I guess if you look at it that way, but I still want a permanent style. Which is pretty hard for me.

Hmm, there's something about the legs that don't look quite right. The far one looks too thin. In general, tapering out isn't such a good idea, IMHO.

Speaking of Karma, where's she been, anyhow? Haven't seen her in a long time.
