If you trust Shino then she's doing a very good job of manipulating you.
The Ovan/Shino/Haseo love triangle...thing is rather interesting though.
Shino looks to Ovan for strength, he's the pillar that she leans against and she remains confident so long as he's around. Haseo simply liked Shino because she gave him a sense of purpose (so did Ovan but he was never around). When Ovan disappeared, Shino lost her support, hence the destruction of the Twilight Brigade, and she looked to Haseo for that support, as he reminded her of Ovan.
Tabby's admiration for Shino was thrown in for kicks. Here we can see that Shino will ignore someone's feelings or end up being entirely oblivious to them if they aren't to her advantage. If Tabby was the strong one, I have no doubt that Shino would've turned to her for support.
In GU, that ends up leaving Haseo pining over Shino, the girl that doesn't really care for him, while he treats Atoli, the girl that does care for him, as if she is someone that she could never be.

Yes...He's making connections between the two that aren't there, just because they look the same.....He needs to get his facts straight, 'cause if he doesn't, Shino is going to be the downfall of him.....And by downfall, I mean downfall....He's focusing all of his love on a manipulative girl, when she's dating Ovan in real-life, which Haseo knows nothing about, and she's also trying to "revive" a Guild already dead....I'd say Shino is mentally handicapped, and she has no feelings for any others but herself...If BlackRose met her, BlackRose would've kicked Shino's sorry manipulative little ass!......
The fact that she's entirely different in terms of mentality to Atoli does suggest that Shino could never possess an Epitaph-PC. There is also the fact that this would suggest that Atoli stole Shino's PC, as I don't believe Avatars can be transferred.
Though that's just what I think, I doubt she ever had an Epitaph-PC, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did.

Shino needs to go to a therapist.....But I don't get why Ovan even considers going out with Shino.....If I had to choose between Shino and Atoli (Which I like to do sometimes, when I look at their pictures..) I'd chose Atoli....Back on-topic....Shino is to mentaly unstable to handle a Phase, and it would get out of hand, since she would think she could manipulate the Phase....Well....We all know what would happen if she thought she could do that.....Atoli is more mentaly sane then Shino, and Shino probably thinks she could get through her own little life manipulating people......If she thinks that, I'd say to her "Get a life"....Again, sorry for going off-topic there....
I love Saburou, she's such an enigmatic character...
I love the fact that she has all these little quirks like her habit of using analogies and metaphors, as well as the fact that she is, apparently, a girl using a boy's name specifically because numerous boys use girls' names. However, what I really like about her is the mystery that surrounds her; with so many people believing she was Tawaraya, as well as her mysterious inclusion within the series, and her good knowledge of Aura.
She's my favourite from the second half of Roots at the very least, I was even thinking of having a vote for favourite characters between 14 and 26 that would include Yata, Pai, Saburou, Wool, Cashmere, etc.
I would undoubtedly vote for Saburou there.

Ovan is cool, as was Ender/Pai, and I'm disappointed that they got rid of Gord after the first half.
Though I must agree with you, there are a number of interesting characters in the second half, besides Saburou, Wool and Cashmere are pretty cool, and Touta is a drastic improvement on Tawaraya.
There's also the new girl in the preview for episode 21, she looks VERY cool.
