It's good...
It's not as good as the music for SIGN, but it's still pretty good.

Why does Gord get a battle theme to himself? I find that just a bit unfair.

Well, you guys pretty much summerized my thoughts. hmm.

Okay, any thoughts on what this soundtrack is missing, or how it could be improved?

Hrm...

More Engrish lyrics? All the vocal songs that play are in Japanese, as opposed to the music from SIGN which was mostly in English.

I like the music so far. Whether I think it's better than SIGN's music or not... eh, haven't quite decided yet. I've noticed the feel to Roots' music seems more Medieval English than SIGN's music. I dunno, that's the feeling I get, anyway.
I think it's pretty much guaranteed that another soundtrack will be released, and maybe even a third. XP Who knows, the series isn't complete yet, so we haven't heard all the music there is to offer.
SIGN re-used a lot of tracks in the beginning, as Roots also has done, so I don't think it's quite fair to say that about the anime. I would mind it more if the music didn't fit the situation, but it does.
Finally, I don't think Roots will have a lot of English vocal songs, but I don't mind that so much.

Well, the OP is alright but the one that stands out to me is the ending.
ALI-PROJECT - National Awakening - Catharsis..is unique.When I first heard it,it rang a bell..this group also did the OP for Rozen Maiden..which I liked.
But besides that,it's ok.I don't find anything else that is really memorable.

To make up for how Sora didn't really have one in SIGN? I think he eventually got one but it like wasn't used or something. I forget, Yuki Kajiura talked about it in the foldout for one of the soundtracks...

All in all, I'm almost sick of Yuki Kajiura by now (and I probably will be once I've played through the experience that is XSIII), and having ALI Project do the soundtrack is umm... a new experience at least... Their music occasionally overpowers the scene, but that's partly the director's fault, he likes doing that, and did that in SIGN too... They're a good band, they just don't usually do soundtracks (which makes it interesting). I have to say a lot of the music has a fairly different feel from their usual "Arabian" style...

About the lyrics thing... Kajiura herself said that her English lyrics didn't really hold any sort of very deep meaning... The show's made for Japan, so it's not that weird to use Japanese lyrics, is it? All in all it ends up being more meaningful for the intended audience of the show... Just like the Gord thing, you can think of this as "balance restored" (like only one song in SIGN was in Japanese).

Ah, I remember what you're talking about, she brought a joke theme to the director's and they liked it so much they used it, "Bridge 06" I believe it is?

But anyway... I'm a little confused by what you mean "Balance restored" what I think you're trying to say is the songs in English? But that can't be right...

"Balance" as in, before all of the songs were in English. Now, all of the songs are in Japanese. How is this not fair?

Ah... no I'm not saying it's not fair, I was confused of your meaning, I thought you were saying somehow that giving Gord his own theme is making up for Sora's there lack of

OR

That Gord's song is in English and the rest of the songs are in Japanese.

(When compared to SIGN)

I thought that's what you meant through saying "Balance" sorry for the misunderstanding.

Oh, that was separate but related. Yes, I think giving the hyper PK his own theme seems like compensation for the fact that they didn't do it last time... ^^

I've memorized the OP and I sing it out loud on buses. :P It's just such an awesome song. I'm also in the midst of learning the ED. I love to sing those last two verses, where it has images of "Yami" Haseo.

You think they'll release an 'extra' track. the one they never released; if it exists? I'd love to hear that. :D

Honestly it has taken me a while to get used to this new music for roots. I almost hated it at first. All the way until the 9-13th episode, however my opinion began to change. I've actually come to really like the music. I think what gets at me is that there are no english songs whatsoever besides Gentle Hands. With SIGN you could really relate to the characters not just through the entrancing music but the vocals as well. Especially in the case of Tsukasa. I found that i could really relate to him. Mimiru and Krim also touched me. Yeah the music is not the same but it is symbolic of the passing of time within 'The World'. Personally i feel there is a strong need for more english songs and/or known tracks to be redone in english. It doesn't seem as fun as anytime 'Edge' played or the drama of 'Liminality' or the spirit of Tsukasa's despair in 'The World', 'Aura', 'A Stray Child', 'ake Wings', and his newfound strength with 'Key of the Twilight'. I'll probably feel better once Roots is done in English, but i strongly feel they should start using more with the vocals. Sure Japan is thier target audience but have they forgotten the spirit of 'The World'? Maybe i'm not seeing something, or maybe time has changed as it has in 'The World'. I like the music a lot, but they at the very least should make 2-3 more songs in english.

From what i can tell the music from Rebirth and especially promising from the 2nd volume trailer; it really sounds like a comprimise. I really love the song from the 2nd trailer and a lot of the tracks from Rebirth actually take me in spirit to 'The World'. The hyms, epitaph of twilight(in german), Gentle Hands, the opening theme, lost ground 1, cave field, desktop theme, Temple Feild, island field, and Mac Anu are nice to listen to. You can actually feel it take you to another world. I think its all pretty good when it comes to the overall presentation; that includes the music from root. We're not done yet. We'll just have to wait and see.

It's an anime made in Japan, of course it would have Japanese lyrics! I enjoy listening to Japanese, so I could practise my crappy Japanese. (:

They're a few songs that I heard in the anime, that aren't on te soundtrack, I hope they release a second one! D:
