Media Create Sales numbers are out today and Last Recode sold 61,816 copies (physical PS4 only; Media Create doesn't/can't track digital or Steam sales) the first week.

Pretty impressive for a remaster of a relatively niche PS2 game imo

I'd say that's pretty damn impressive considering the fact that the franchise has been basically dead in the US since the release of Volume 3. This is good news as far as I'm concerned and hopefully shows Bamco the market still exists for the series.

There are JP physical sales numbers only.

Previous First Weeks (Japan obviously):
G.U. Vol.1 - 91,000
G.U. Vol.2 - 122,800
G.U. Vol.3 - 136,790
Link - 60,487
Movie+Versus - 17,446

Its higher then I expected. Japans got a super good used games market so outside of the biggest of big names ya really wouldn't expect these kinds of collections to do notably well. Its unknown how high Versus got to since big sales data leaks kinda dried up by that time, but within Links first year it hit alil over 100k. If this collection can do that same it'd be pretty darn solid!

Second week sales are down to 6000, but lurking on Twitter it seems like there might be some supply and demand issues no one (bamco) accounted for.
Like, I've seen photos of game stores being sold out and even Amazon JP is saying it'll be "1~4 weeks" to ship lol

I know that here in the UK, the game was sold out everywhere. Even my Amazon pre-order reverted to being sold out on release day. I had to wait another 4 or 5 days for the game to actually be sent out to me. It sounds like they really underestimated the demand.

I recall amazon.co.uk being sold out a month or so before release aswell, eventually it allowed more pre-orders to be put in. I only really went into one shop for Last Recode and they only had 2 copies in,doubt too many people even knew about it but it seems odd to get so few copies of a new release in ^^'

Yeah, it does. GU is in a weird place. GU is the kind of game where if you played it at the time, it probably made a huge impact on you and is remembered very fondly, but if you didn't play it back then, you've never heard of it and it means nothing to you.

It's ridiculous to compare it to Final Fantasy, but even comparing it to a more niche RPG franchise like Tales, GU is super niche. Most gamers with any Japanese leanings will have heard of Tales. Any other RPG I can think of that has the same thing of "you're either a big fan, or you've never heard of it", is still different from GU because it's more critically acclaimed, like Vagrant Story. Hmm, how about Vandal Hearts on the PS1? Anyone remember that? I think that's the closest.

Week 3: 3,738
Total: 72,214

Prolly the last we'll hear about its jp sales until some overall Bamco earnings report comes out! May even hear about worldwide numbers at such a time.

About a month late on this one but the MC Top 1000 sellers for 2017 data was released.

.hack//G.U. Last Recode
Place: 76th
Sales: 80,106

Meaning after the third week it went on ta sell another 8k copies through Dec. 31st. This makes it extremely unlikely to have cracked a 100k in Japan. If it gets a budget re-release which moves copies, or makes the Top 1000 for 2018 (fairly likely since #1000 this time around was at 912 copies sold) we'll know for sures.

As for Scamco they were the 5th highest selling publisher with 2,160,031 games sold. On PS4 specifically they sold 986,079 games, making Last Recode account for a big old 8% of that total fwiw.
