A July release date was announced by Bandai Entertainment at a comic con in New York via animenewsnetwork.com and the front page of this website. I'm really skeptical though, since Bandai Entertainment hasn't said a peep about it and getting in contact with them is beyond difficult (and their website being completely useless).

Bad news..

http://www.mania.com/bandai-announces-a ... 15403.html

On the positive news front, the Lucky Star OVA, Sola and .hack//G.U. Trilogy are all seeing release in August (well, until they're potentially delayed). The bad news? None of them will have dubs. This was very much expected with Sola so there's no surprise there.

I've been looking forward for a dub release for a LONG time.. damn. That's really disappointing after all this wait.

Better official subs than a sh*tty dub, imo.

Even though Trilogy was better in Japanese, I really wanted Jamieson Price(Ovan) and Yuri Lowenthal(Haseo) to have a chance to play their character parts well though.

But if we're only getting subs though, then I guess it isn't worth the effort to buy it then, since subbed versions of the movie are already out on several anime streaming websites.-_-

Awesome, now we won't get any ****-awful Yuri Lowenthal.

Hooray.

What exactly are they thinking >_> Most English speaking fans have already watched it subtitled. Why even give a North American release and why take so long if they are just going to be lazy and subtitle it. I hate subs and I was really looking forward to a dubbed release of this. Very disappointing.

First .hack//LINK only coming to the horrible PSP and now this :L

I'm thrilled, tbh. Sakurai > either of Haseo's English VA, but I could've done without Miki Shin'ichiro as Kuhn (thank God he only has like two lines in the movie).

Look on the bright side. At least the translations will be better - I can't figure out what the hell they were saying in the fansubs because there were like three different versions, all of which weren't particularly good translations, out of the ones I could find. I'll buy .hack//G.U. TRILOGY even if it isn't dubbed. (Besides, face it, Lowenthal as Haseo was horrible anyhow. I wanted to shoot him after about two hours of Volume 1.)

I didn't mind most of the English VAs, though I'm really glad that Atoli's English VA wont ruin a couple of my favorite movie moments.

Bandai Entertainment hasn't been doing so hot from what I've gathered, and this is a big example of them cutting costs.

Quoted from the comments section of the Mania.com article:
Seriously. Leaving dubs out of an anime is like taking chocolate chips out of a cookie. Sure, you're still going to attract hard-core cookie lovers, but it's the sweet chocolate chips that drew others in in the first place. Leaving out dubs means you're leaving out a good chunk of potential sales (say what you will, but the majority of mainstream anime fans prefer dubs- I know subbies can't swallow such a bitter pill, but that's the way it is). While not every anime series in existence should be dubbed, no subbed-only anime DVD (TV series, OVA mini-series or movie) has ever been a massive Top 10 seller (words Bandai Visual should've heeded, and which Nozomi, ADV/Sentai and Bandai continue to ignore). Former Anime Insider editor Rob Bricken once said that the current U.S. anime industry isn't serving anyone, and that's a big problem (not his exact words, but you get the idea). I hope Bandai and (what's left of) ADV take these words to heart. Otherwise, ADV could be D.O.A. (Bandai's too big to fail, but I could be wrong.)
I agree 100% with this guy!

Just a note about that. Bandai Visual USA isn't Bandai Entertainment. Bandai Visual is a more direct extension of the Japanese Bandai Visual company and though they sometimes release stuff to America on their own, no one knows why. When they started (I've stopped following), everything was priced at Japanese prices (about twice as much as usual U.S. prices), and had no dub. I assume they're making money on this somehow, though, or they would have just delegated to America's Bandai, so more power to them, but anything they do is mostly independent of Bandai Entertainment.

On that note, though I have no idea where to look for a historical top-ten list of anime DVD sales, I'm sure that the subtitled-only version of Cardcaptor Sakura topped it at one point.

That said, it looks like this is Bandai Entertainment's doing, so that's kind of weird. If they released it on Bluray like good 'ol Bandai Visual did I wouldn't mind, though...

I can't make sense of this. The movie's been out for over a year in Japan, odds are that anyone who wants Trilogy would have already seen it subbed by now and probably has it saved on their computer(not that I do). The only real selling point to releasing it subbed here is that buyers won't have to pay shipping fees. And worse yet is that this is Dot Hack, it's not some fresh from Japan series. Dot Hack already has an established fanbase that it's built up over the years. Sure, it's not a terafanbase like that of some other series, but it's still respectable. Seems like Bandai stands to lose if they do this.

The point of this^^^ paragraph is to give you an idea of why I believe that this news is false. I ask you, the community, to please corroborate this with another news article or even a statement straight from the big "B". Please.

Note that I'm not saying that there is no way that this could be true, it wouldn't totally astound me given the **** that everyone's wallets are wallowing in. Note that this is not some "I hate Mania, they're damnable liars" issue. I'm just not totally willing to jump because I'm told that there's a mat at the bottom, give me a picture of the mat with proof of it's location and today's newspaper.

What's this? No dub? Have they forgotten who is in charge here?

I too am one of the only people in the world that loves Atoli's English VA. I also really Alkaid's VA, though I can easily fathom why both of these voices tend to bother people. To go slightly off-topic, I was overjoyed when I heard Misa's English voice in Death Note for the first time too, and I know a lot of people hated the way she sounded.

Lol i liked Atoli's english VA too :P but i like her japanese voice too because, its the same VA as Saber from Fate/Stay Night which happens to be another series i like. i dont mind yuri lowenthal too much, mostly because i dont watch too many anime's that he's VAing in. and the last anime i cared about to watch dubbed was gurren laggan..or was it lagaan? its been a while since i saw the series, but i think he did okay as simon.

i wouldnt have minded seeing Trilogy Dubbed, but thats only because i happened to like the cast they used. regardless as a fan of the series i think i would get the DVD anyway just to have it as a collector, plus it would be nice to see the parody mode for it thats not in youtube quality lol

Eh, my big problem with Lowenthal is that he just doesn't do a very good Haseo. Not saying he's a bad VA (did great as Luke in Tales of the Abyss), but just didn't do a good Haseo.

I think he did quite well. I mean, Haseo was every bit like Sasuke, so who'd be perfect to fit the bill as Haseo's VA than the orignal VA for Sasuke?

It wasn't who they used, it was how they voiced, if you get what I mean. Also, I haven't watched Naruto, so I don't know how good Lowenthal did as Sasuke.

I actually preferred Haseo's Roots dub, tbh.

Ehh, I prefer Kari Wahlgren as Shino over Kelly Sheridan myself. Wahlgren just seems to get the right sound of the voice down.

Anyway, I am saddened by this news. I was actually really looking forward to a .hack//G.U. Trilogy dub, one that would have hopefully used all the same peeps from the games. But no, we won't get to hear any epic Lowenthal yelling, such a disappointment.
I'll still buy the DVD regardless, I'm just not as excited about it as before anymore.

I agree it should be Dubbed and BTW where the hell is our Dubbed Returner it should come on the same disk as this... as long as Yuri is Haseo they can use the Roots cast for everything else if they use the GU cast instead thats fine too as long as they for the love of god doent use Shino's GU VA... that being said i think AT is crazy the JP VA that Trilogy uses for Ovan does NOT do him justice and he is practically THE main character
