Yeah!! I know that the light novels have about 10 or more, and looking through the covers, i think we're at volume 3 or 4, so it is possible for it to be a lengthy series. Im hoping for 26 or more.

Yeah, im pretty sure they'll get Asuna back and save her from that forced marriage. At least i hope so. It'll be interesting, because Kirito's sister plays a MUCH bigger part in this arc. If you look at some pictures, you'll see one where there is a picture of "Lyfa" aka Kirito's sister. Also, the ears are going to take some getting used to....

hows the anime been going? I'm still reading the LN so I'm holding off on watching it for now.

It's got a set base of people that love it and people that hate it. I'm not interested in it that much but I guess the fight scenes and visuals are pretty cool.

@SCP- If you like the whole "getting stuck in a virtual reality game" sort of story, I would suggest you check it out. The story isn't bad. The characters are (for the most part) rather memorable and likable. The music is nice, the visuals beautiful. There's plenty of action, drama, and romance. However, I don't really think it lives up to the hype so many people have for it. It's good and worth watching, but don't go in expecting the next FMA: Brotherhood.

His sister?.... No that's his cousin, though they were raised like siblings, and raised to believe so, but they've both known they were cousins for years.

So I just watched the first episode of SAO. I wanted to compare it to .hack and to the anime that is out right now "Log Horizon".
I know that many of you have already watched all or read the novels already. I'm such a late bloomer... But here is my opinion on it still...

SAO's game play
- There is no magic
- Only weapon is a sword
- You start the game by wearing a large headgear called NerveGear

SAO's concept of being stuck in the game "Sword Art Online"
- You can not log out because there is no log out button.
- You can not log out by yourself because your mind is fully into the game (or something like that).
- You can not feel pain while you are logged out
- You feel hungry
- Time in SAO is the same time in the real world.
- Now you look like how you are outside of the game.

SAO's game background
- It is a game that consists of levels to clear the game you got to go up to the top level.
- There is a field boss to get to the top level.

I know I'm a late bloomer in all these things but I just watched episode 1... My opinion right now on the anime is that it is interesting in a good way.

So far, hence the name of this game is "Sword" Art Online. Later in SAO they introduce other games that do basically change everything you learned in "Sword" Art.

Just finished all 25 episodes. In three days! Yay!

My opinion on SAO. I liked the anime and enjoyed the characters. Different from .hack though.. There is the whole virtual game play. But it focuses on something different compared to //SIGN and //LotT (duh).

I heard that there is going to be a second season (or should I say third?)

Some parts of SAO seemed dark...

Episode 3 just ate me up with Sachi. When Yui passed away that stunned me. Though the fighting was pretty cool. Different fighting compared to .hack.

Should I read the visual novels?

To summarize Sword Art Online it starts off great with a lot of potential. The first arc is good. The bad guy does what he does for the to see players reactions. There could have been more character development for SAO but it is good for how short it is. The second arc becomes a dumb love story with a pedophile. Kirito and the cousin thing..... No stop it.

If could have been an anime were Kirito went up a few levels each episode, deeply explored the psychology of people playing a death game, pking, and more MMORPG stuff. That would have made the series longer and better.

Well I didn't like it. Good concept, ruined by an awful cast and a plot that went totally to crap, asspulls everywhere, like, there was a bunch of stuff that there shouldn't have even been able to remotely happen, even in the game world, and he just plows through it with no difficulty/some ridiculous explanation that came from nowhere.

shikiaki > If you liked the anime, you can stay with it if you have enough patience to wait for the (very likely) next season. The light novels are indeed light. I started to read these while the anime was still on air and... Well. I probably would have had a hard time getting into it if I hadn't watched the anime before. Some light novels are quite deep, but that is not exactly the case of SAO in my opinion. The anime is a nearly exact replica of the light novel due to its short content. The Aincrad arc is a copy/paste from the light novel with some minor changes. The Alfheim arc does not include some content (a dungeon exploration, for example), but this omitted content does not bring much to the story, just lengthen it. It can be interesting for those who would like to know more on the SAO universe, it was my case, but if it's not yours, then you can live without reading it.

About the post-anime events, I started to read the next arc (Gun Gale Online), but I dropped it quite fast. It's more detailed, more novelized (it's better, writing wise), but the story in itself does not shine. So, I'm waiting for the anime's next season, that will make it more lively. I'll then probably find enough interest in the "extra content" to read the light novel again after viewing it.

So I'm guessing that even though the novel was published first, the anime seems better. Well.. I read a few pages of the SAO light novel. It seemed okay. But yeah. It wasn't anything amazing.

Like an anime with more vast source material...

The books are probably better in actually explaining what is going on most of the time.

I've tried watching Sword Art Online and I was having a hard time getting into. I didn't find any of the characters likable; They were all just flat and overly generic. I didn't like the storyline either, not because it was a lot like .hacks//, but because it just felt like there were a lot of plot holes and it left this feeling like something was missing. I haven't watched it to the end but I keep hearing people say that the ending just completely discarded everything from the beginning of the series. I don't know if that's true or not though. Another thing I didn't like was the environment, character designs, and atmosphere. To me it just didn't give me the feeling like people were in a game. As for character designs I felt like nothing fit together and some of there outfits didn't really seem like they fit the world that they're in (I guess I'm just being a nitpick now). Same with atmosphere and environment, they could have been so creative with it but it just turned out bland. Oh, one thing that always annoyed me. How the main character (Don't remember his name because I never liked him enough to remember it) always ends up winning every battle when really he should. It's like he has horrible stats but then suddenly goes into Super Saiyan mode and beats everyone up. It's also odd how all the girls just flock all over him like he's a pimp.

I don't think you can really relate SAO to .hack//
Yes, they have their similarities but at the same time they're completely different from each other. Key concepts, characters, directions, and development is different. It's like trying to compare Star Trek to Star Wars or Kingdom Hearts to Final Fantasy.
