I heard about it too. After budget cuts and laying off a good portion of their staff. They were down to 6 people and it was inevitable. So sad

The news post on the front page specifically noted that it was the San Francisco HQ that was closing, is there another?

I believe the San Fran HQ is the only office for the Division. There used to be one in New York or Boston if my memory serves me correct, but I'm not sure. But Tokyopop's .hack Translations will be missed.

Well this sucks. What about the .hack//Quantum+ manga? What will be the fate of that? :/

hopefully another publisher picks up .hack//Quantum+ when the time comes.
That's from the front page. I am curious about the GU novels, but it seems that nothing is mentioned about that. Maybe they were only localized to volume 3?

Quick update - .hack//G.U. vol 4 novel is due out May 3rd - guess that is up in the air. Tokyopop officially shuts down in the U.S. on May 31st, so maybe it will be one of their last localizations!

I think there is another site in Los Angeles. But that is shame. I wanted to work with them one day. Maybe the next group will take Quantum and Epitaph of Twilight. Regardless let's hope Tokyo Pop can find a way out of their financial situation.

Let's just hope that namdai doesn't see this as being the death of .hack in the west and become even more stubborn to localize //LINK.

Hmm, hadn't thought about that. But, I don't think they would take it against .hack specifically. This is more of a world wide manga/anime thing. Not as much disposable income these days, and that's basically what manga, and to a lesser extent anime, depended on. Besides, if Tokyopop does release the last volume of G.U. novels, then that goes to show how important .hack is.

The publishing company known as Tokyo-pop will be closing its doors May 31st 2011.
That is only 2 weeks way.
Tokyo-pop published the dothack manga.
So for those of you who are currently reading/buying the dothack manga.
You'r screwed! Just like me!
So here are what you currently can and can't get in English.
You still can get these, so run to stores now, or if your smart get them online:
All of these series are complete and in English.
.hack//AI Buster (vol.1&2) (novel)
.hack//XXXX (vol.1&2)
.hack//Another Birth (vol. 1-4) (novel)
.hack//Legend of the Twilight (vol. 1-3)
.hack//GU+ (1-5)
.hack//Alcor (1 volume)
.hack//Cell (vol. 1&2) (novel)
.hack//4koma (1 volume)
Now here are the ones in limbo
(meaning some have been published in English but not all!)
.hack//GU (vol.1-3 in English) vol.4 on not published (novel)
.hack//Link (vol. 1-3 in English) vol.4 on not published
And these ones are currently in Japanese only.
.hack//Epitaph of Twilight (vol. 1&2) (novel)
.hack//GnU (unsure how many volumes)
.hack//Zero (vol.1) only one volume was ever made(so it might never have been translated)
Any of the manga you can find translations online for but the novels, good luck!
I have been looking for a site that translates the novels, so if I or any of you find something post a link! Thanks.
Also If I have missed anything in my list of manga post it. Thanks.
MOST IMPORTANT, IF ANYONE HEARS ABOUT ANOTHER COMPANY TAKING OVER THE DOTHACK PUBLICATION POST IT HERE. Thanks!

My question is, Tokyopop America (Tokyopop Films is staying though) is shutting down, however Tokyopop Germany still produces manga. So I wonder if Tokyopop Germany will be publishing international releases over seas in the wake of Tokyopop America. Granted it would be costly, but there was no mention saying they couldn't or wouldn't. But America still does have a few manga publishers:
- ADV Manga
- ALC Publishing
- Aurora Publishing
- CMX Manga
- Dark Horse Manga
- Del Rey Manga
- Digital Manga Publishing
- Go! Comi
- Infinity Studios
- Madman Entertainment
- Seven Seas Entertainment
- VIZ Media
- Yaoi Press
- Yen Press
To name a few.

Tokyopop Germany doesn't have .hack in Germany. I think Carlsen Manga does...

WHYYYYYYYYY???!!! Just when I started to get into the .hack mangas! ...Well, if Tokyopop is stopping the production, I only hope that someone else picks up the slack. I wonder if any other company will help us stranded dot.hackers...

@Aivin: The 4th novel for G.U was actually released already. I went to their Garage Sale in Los Angeles and I nearly passed out of excitement when I saw the 4th novel there. Also , there's no 4th volume for Link.

I'm going to get the fourth novel if I see it around. Still, should I get it online or in the stores?
