Hm...this is really tough.
I liked Shino in Roots--or in the beginning, anyway. I liked her gentle demeanor and the way she seemed firm and open-minded. I didn't like her delicate "I need someone to lean on" attitude. I mean, everyone needs support now and then, but I didn't like the way she executed that need, if you see what I mean.
I also liked her voice in the flashbacks of Rebirth.
Very cute.
As for Atoli, I absolutely love her. I love when she apologizes for falling asleep on the bus, but acts like it's such a common thing to do. I like how she cares for every "living" thing and how she's such a strong advocate of peace. What I don't like is how she seems to represent someone else's ideals at times, and how she can be just a tiny bit annoying.
Really a toss-up for me...
I'll just wait and see what everyone else's arguments are for either one.

I don't mind that Atoli's annoying. I love her cheerful, idealistic attitude, and her charmingly naïve outlook. But most of the reason I love her is because she's so much like me when it comes to MMO's, the way she has no interest in PKing and would rather sit and watch the virtual sunset than spend her evening trying to level up. That sounds a lot like my online behavior.

I'd choose Shino, Atoli is way too enthustiastic for my liking. I agree with Atoli being a "general Hippy without the pot", peace cannot be obtained in The World R:2 without Aura, give it up already.

Shino and Haseo had no chemistry together at all. Shino hung around him because of Ovan and when Ovan disappeared the only had each other. Shino was never particularly friendly to Haseo just pleasant and tolerant.
Compared to both Atoli and Alkaid who both at odds with Haseo at first, mainly due to Haseo's nasty attitude towards the begining. That's interaction and chararcter development much more than with Shino.
