What is everyone else's opinion?

I personally like G.U. better. I guess its the characters they seem to have more depth in them. As well being darker.

//G.U. ftw!
Seriously, the graphics are better, story is better ( so far), and the gameplay overhauls are amazing.

Is it really that they are deeper? or just angstier?
While it cannot be argued that the characters in GU are not more flushed out than in .hack, I don't think they are as deep as everyone would like to believe.

As I said, I think the story falls flat and that some of the gameplay overhauls aren't so great. Avatar Battles are terrible and I can't believe some people liked them.

Well damn!
Regardless, how do you feel about my points?

I feel the characters in GU are more deeper. Kite's best friend was in a coma, and he was off making friends with Natsume and Piros and co. whilst Haseo shows emotion.

the point about length was just wrong. it was supposed to be 20-40 hours. with all the extras, i played 39. the dungeon thing was true though, i do like the barrier and chim system.

I like the origonal games for the fighting system. I felt this was more of a "hack and slash your way through a dungeon" rather than "this monster has XXXXX atributes and is immune to XXXXX, what do you do?" I used almost no spells at all and stuck mainly to the sword, whick is ok for a while but i like having to use spells to defeat the monsters sometimes. I DO like being able to do combos though.
The graphics were better in this one though (duh) and it did feel more like a mmorpg than the other one simply because of the quests and the guilds.
In the end I can't really decide on which one i like better because they both have their pros and cons.

What else was he supposed to do? go solo and when he is in trouble in a dungeon die because he doesn't have any party members he can rely on. You have to understand that about 70% of all the dungeons Kite goes to are in the main plot line and the other 30% is the games way of helping Kite lvl up.

I know, as one of GU's themes is "growing up", that Haseo is supposed to be immature, but it gets to the point of pure agitation.
Just because Kite's friend was in a coma, he is not going to stop from making friends with other people, especially when they can help him in his quest. Would you put your entire life on halt if your friend was in a coma? Haseo didn't!
The only difference here is that Kite was a fairly kind-hearted person, and reflected the emotions of most people playing the game accurately. On the flipside, you are completely detached from the role of Haseo's arrogance.

What I was referencing was an article on IGN where it was stated that the new volumes would be much longer than the older ones (up to 100 hours).

I think you hit the nail on the head. I wish the technical advancements of GU could have been applied to the base of the original series ... I think the result would have been remarkable.

You wanted a clone. You didnt get it.
That avatar battles were pretty fun. I mean they were no ZoE but they had some fun points. Anyways you seem to want a boring story about some random kid getting almost unlimited power within the world with no saftey checks and running around taking orders from everybody. At least haseo has his own plans. He gets power but he isnt set in a straight path of "I must use this power for the good of the world!" Kite was 2d at best. He took orders and never questioned anything.

If there was anything to jump off of with the grunties, I think they would have been more fun, but the steam bike's screech of the tires, popping wheelies, and catching "big air" is just faaar too sweet to me ( and in all the servers I played in most, I was outright embarrased of the grunties I had to straddle...

)

true. You win, you alwaays do. What did you think of Alchemizing weapons? I thought it was ok, but i liked being able to equip various effects better. And, do you know if you're able to get better than 1.25% bonus damage?
