Dub version, spoilers topic

Post by HaseoDeath »

Seeing it again in English made me think a lot.. and since I'd like to have a topic for those who've already seen Roots, I'll talk here... spoilers all over of course..

Firstly, I wonder why Ender is so bold and evil in personality, yet Pai is calm and secretive. I never noticed that before, although Naobi and Yata do still act the same. I'm finding it hard to picture them using the same voice for Tawaraya for Touta...

Haseo's voice seemed okay, I mean I think I'll like it better then the PS2 game's voice. Ovan seemed to kind, the girls I have no comment on since all female voices sound the same to me... well, most.

What I'm a littl upset at is Phyllo's voice since it's hard to take him seriously with that style of tone... and was it just me or did hearing that one line make people a bit sad...

Haseo: "what are you doing here?"
Phyllo: "Me? Killing time"

Just made me recall his death, how old was he... 73.. 64?...

Sakisaka's voice was ok I guess, but then again I don't care much for him.

It seemed like it was dubbed well, I mean I was worried someone might say something stupid like noob or use teenage slang..

Anywhy, just thought I'd make a topic for those that want to talk about the US version in a way that they'd reflect on the Japanese... so basically a separate topic for spoilers, for those that have seen episodes 1-26.

On another note, was it just me or did it seem the music was a tiny bit faster then what I heard in the Japanese... I swear it seemed faster, intro, BGM and ending.. although the ending sequence was cut. Nice to see them leaving in the "Next episode" preview... unlike what they did for SIGN

You're right, they -did- speed up everything, including the episode itself. You could tell from the BGM and sometimes the people speaking themselves. Namely, Tawaraya.

I don't get it over here, I'm in the UK, the country that anime and games forgot. I had to import G.U for gods sake.
Oh no! What have they done to Phyllo's voice?

Eh, well. It's not a deep voice like this Japanese counterpart, but he does sound like an old man. It's a little high. I could get used to it.

I was picturing Phyllo as the VA that played Tartarga in the //Mutation.. That would have been perfect.

Its quite astounding how many of these VAs have done western animation...

...Shino is played by Barbie! XP

I can't make any judgement on the VAs until I get this episode so...feh! T_T

No Jamieson Price for Ovan? No Yuri Lowenthal for Haseo? Watching the rest of this is gonna be a pain, since they changed all of the voice actors from the games. This had better not apply to the games too. T___T

Anyway, I agree with you guys, it does seem like they sped some parts way up...I was like. o.0;

The GU voice acters should remain the same
The only reason they were changed for Roots is because the place where Roots is recorded is at Ocean Studios, which is in Canada, while the GU Voice acters are in California

Good. Not great, but they should be thankful I'm not heading out to Canada right now to rip their heads off for taking out Steve Blum. Still, the episode was sped up to fit with the commercials that happen early in the morning I guess. Dialouge seemed to happen a little too close between people. No pondering was really in this episode.

Though I do love it when Sakisaka beats up on Ovan's Grunty. Tis teh Funny.

The episode was speeded up, which I didn't really like. Then the ending, it was screwed up majorly.

Then for VAs, I didn't like Phyllo's voice that much. I liked the Japanese voice better. Then Tabby, I not sure if I like hers or not yet. And Tarwara (spelling?) wasn't all that great either. Naobie's voice was perfect I think, it matched him well. And Ender was right on the dot I think. Finally, Haseo. He his VA was perfect, although I would have prefered his //G.U. VA.

Overall, I think it was good besides them speeding it up. That was annoying.

With JUST Barbie dolls and the Haseo figure?

...well, no wonder Sakisaka quit. I'd quit too if I was a barbie doll.

Alright everyone go grab a Ken barbie doll and give it yellow glasses, blue hair, and a huge cylinder metal casket on its left arm with a little lock on it.

I'm a bit disappointed with the dubbed version. And I actually stayed up until 5 to watch it D:

I prefer everyone's //G.U. VA over the //roots one...

I thought Ender sounded perfect and same goes for Sakisaka. Tabby's voice is going to need a bit of getting used to, but I guess I can live with it. Haseo is okay... still wish Yuri Lowenthal could've done it, although I'd be reminded of Sasuke everytime he talks >.>

Now Shino... I suppose it suits her. But I was thinking a more... Subaru/Aura-ish voice :/

O____O oh my... I must find my old barbie dolls now...
