Can we really be heroes? (a Legend of Zelda RP)

Post by Furie »

Feel free to post your character at will!

Not much time has passed since Link and Zelda have disappeared... and Ganondorf has been swiftly bringing darkness to the land of Hyrule. However, not all hope is lost. There are still some with the courage, wisdom, and power to fight back...

Your world was being sent into utter chaos before your eyes. And until a few days ago, you were just as fearful as everyone else. But... a few nights ago... You started to feel a warmth in your heart. And today, a strange talking ball of light, who called themself a fairy has come to you, asking your to follow their lead.

Do you take heed?

Rules:
No player gets to be the hero of time.
No player possesses a piece of the triforce.
You can play as a minor* character already in the game, but OCs are encouraged.
*No playing as Zelda/Sheik, Link, Ganondorf, or any of the sages.
Have fun, and play fair. =)

Races:
Hylian: Most common race. Long eared and of normal human height. Affinity for Light. They are well rounded and can use most weapons.
Kokiri: An old race of peoples who don't age. They look no older than a 12 year old, although they can live much longer than a Hylian. Affinity for the Forest. (for the purposes of this RP, they're able to leave the forest without harm). They have a special connection to animals and can be friendly with Skull Children. Will not get lost in the Lost Woods. Can also charm Hylians, who think they're regular Hylian children. Cannot wield large weapons.
Goron: The rock-eating people from Death Mountain. They are large and boulder like. Affinity for Fire. They're slower than most other races, but have the ability to curl into a ball and roll downhill at great speeds. They also have natural armor (made of rocks), and can take a lot of physical damage. Cannot swim, but can walk through shallow water. Will not take damage from fire. Cannot use small weapons.
Zora: The fish-like people of the Zora River and Lake Hylia. They're taller than Hylians, but shorter than Gorons, and much slimmer than either. Affinity for Water. (for the purposes of this RP, they can spend a lot of time out of water) They're able to breathe underwater. Although they don't need to stay in water, they still cannot spend much time in hot or dry areas (inside the Volcano and Desert). They can use an electric shock while in the water.
Gerudo: The red-haired, yellow-eyed thieves of the desert. They are the same height as Hylians, but they're slightly slimmer and more muscular. They are hated by the Hylian people, and cannot travel easily. Affinity for the Spirit. Ganondorf and other Gerudo are considered friendly until provoked. Intelligent monsters will not attack until provoked.
Sheikah: A mysterious people. Taller than Hylians, and slimmer, they have white hair and red eyes. Affinity for Shadows. They can teleport with an explosion and are adept with a wide array of weapons.

---------------------------

Alina scrambled through the brambles, cursing uncharacteristically the whole way. Her dress was torn and her skin was exposed to the dozens of thorns, and she had more than a few scratches that were beginning to annoy her.

"Tsk tsk," came the condescending voice of the yellow bubble that bobbed around her head, illuminating the bush around them. "I wasn't expecting the haidmaiden of the princess to have such a dirty mouth. Perhaps I shall clean those lips of your with a k-"

Alina smacked the annoying, talking insect from the air, and continued on her way. "I didn't ask you to come with me..."

The bubble regained it's altitude, and hovered in front of her face. "You'll need me. I want the same thing you do."

Alina's arms were becoming tired from having to move thick, spined branches out of her way. And her feet stung where the thorns had pierced through her now ragged cloth boots. She paused for a moment, relaxing where she could. She looked down at her arms which burned with dozens of bleeding scratches. But when she looked up, she could see specks of light and pretty green grass. She was almost free. She continued, each step painful, but her joy kept her going.

At last. Hyrule field. Alina closed her eyes as a warm breeze swept up her hair.

She had just spent several days navigating her way out of the castle after Ganondorf and his minions had attacked. Alina had seen the princess to her guardian, whom Alina hoped had taken the princess far from the reaches of that demon, and then navigated her way through the castle's vast sewer system to an entrance way beyond the borders of the city. The exit was known only to the royal family and their most trusted servants. As such, the entrance has not been used in centuries, and had accumulated a small forest of thorned plants around it.

Alina spent only a few minutes basking in the sun, when Nik spoke up and shattered her bliss. "We should go to Kokiri forest. That's where this all began, so perhaps we should begin our journey there as well."

The girl nodded. Thought she disliked this creature called a fairy, she agreed with his logic. The princess had told her that a boy from the forest who had a fairy had come to her with an artifact called the Kokiri's Emerald.

She started of on her way across the massive, open field.

Saria stopped playing, the last notes of her song echoing through the forest grove. She sensed two things wrong in the forest. One was an ever present and ominous force coming from the temple that loomed to the eastern wall of the sacred grove. The other was new.

She stood up, her head raised in acute awareness. A few birds who had nestled by her feet for her song began to sing in protest. She walked over them, toward the source of the presence she had felt.

Not far into the trees she could see something heading towards her... she squinted her eyes. A fairy! She dashed forward excitedly, eager to greet the person she thought it was. Could this be Link, returned safe from his adventure?

Saria slowed, seeing the flash of a weapon in the approaching figure's hand. And she could see now that he was much taller than the person she was expecting. She stopped, her face one of confused and pained shock.
--------------------

Alina continued through the field at a steady pace. She had been out here for a full day and night now, in most part because of the detour she took- a seldom used path that lead down and around the west and south of Hyrule. It was a much longer journey, but much safer than traversing the busier northern road, where it would be easy for her to be spotted. Plus, for part of the journey, she would be shielded from open view by the cliffs that created walls on either side of the path when it lead near the desert.

Speaking of desert, Alina thought to herself, holding herself as she shivered. I hope I don't run into any of those Gerudo thieves. They'd take me to that mad man for sure, and then I'll never be able to help the princess...

She approached the slope that lead down to the cliffs and simply looked at it for a short while. Then, gathering her courage, she continued forward.

The girl shied from him nervously. "What are you doing in the forest?" Her voice was that of a child, but held a strange and unnerving maturity to it. And then she stiffened, seeming to remember something painful.

She looked up at him again, her eyes sad and cautious. She studied him for a long moment, and then said. "You have a fairy."

Saria watches their exchange and relaxes. She seems satisfied. She smiled. "Alright. Would you like to come to the village for some food and water, maybe a place to rest?"

Saria leads them through a seemingly endless maze of forest. It was obvious that if a person doesn't know the correct path, they'd become lost in the vastness forever.

But it didn't take long for them to each an end to the trees.

They stood on a hill high overlooking a small wooded village.

"Come on. My house is nearby." The girl walked to the right, and disappeared over a cliff.

I'm a woman dammit!

The green fairy was the only precusor to the trail of events that would follow. It was all a blur. The gleam of the blade blinded the Hylian before the shadow that hid beneath. Inches from her throat, the threat was not far behind. Golden eyes stared into the Hylian prey. "Drop everything-"

"Oh no Lind, you can't hurt her! Look at how pretty she looks! You shouldn't hit a woman!" The fairy floated around the blade, ensuring that it would not strike the pretty girl before it. She waved her hands in protest until the crimson haired girl withdrew her blade. The gerudo girl sucked in her teeth, visibly aggravated. The blade entered her sheath as she caged the fairy in her hands. "I'm a woman dammit! That sort of crap isn't a point!"

"Oh Lind, you look so pretty yourself, if only I could get you in a lovely lavender dress..." The fairy broke off, lost in her thought.

Nik chimed loudly as Alina was attacked. "Watch out!" But the who scenario was over before it even began.

Alina stood ridged, her hands submissively in the air. "P-please, don't hurt me." Her voice was clear as a bell.

The golden light flew past Alina's shoulder, and then stopped his charge. "Wait. A fairy?" He suddenly seemed to see who the attacker was, and emitted a growl. "And such a beauty. What brought on this assault?"

Alina's eyes widened as he spoke, and she glared daggers at him. "She's a gerudo," the frightened girl hissed, almost inaudible, but not quite. Alina's eyes returned to the thief's. Her gaze lingered on the would be assassin's for a long while, before she started to visibly relax. It was as though something she saw in those moments gave her a sense of trust in this woman. "I suppose I shouldn't jump to conclusions." Extending a delicate hand, she said, "I am Nali."

"And I, dear fiery maiden, am Nik," The golden fairy said proudly, not masking his own name.
---------------------

Saria giggled at Matt's concern, and continued ahead, up a small path, and toward a large tree stump painted with light pink stripes. There was a child sized hole at the base of it, in front of which Saria stopped to wave the man on.

Around the village, the Kokiri watched cautiously from their hiding places.

“Well, while we’re all introducing ourselves, my name is Len!” The green sprite cried out in a loud and cheerful voice. She then looked toward her Gerudo companion, who extended her hand towards Nali. Their eyes never broke contact, until the Gerudo slapped her hand away. A look of disgust had corrupted her face.

“I don’t like you, or your kind. Your dainty ways and snobbishness is more than a stereotype.” Her yellow eyes seemed to be lit up as she spoke to Nali. The fairy, however, had rested itself upon the Gerudo’s head. Grabbing tight hold of two strands of hair, she yanked.

“Bad Lind! You must be respectful in the presence of a lady.” Lind’s brow lowered as she attempted to catch the sprite. The two performed this dance for only seconds before Len was caught. “I’m a lady you small green headache! I’ll rattle you!” Lind shook Len over and over until reassessing her situation. “Go away. I saw that look you gave me, the look of disgust Hylians always wear when they see Gerudos.”

Saria was at the far end of the hollow trunk, a small sizzling sound coming from before her, along with a sweet and savory smell. "Yes, this is my home." Along the wall was a small bed, and directly across from the entrance was a small knotted platform.

She turned to the man, a small bowl with odd looking but delicious smelling vegetables and nuts. She offered it to him, and then indicated the platform. "You should be big enough to sit on that."
---------------------------------

Alina withdrew her hand, he eyes flashing as she regarded the woman. "You'll have to forgive me. We've had more than a few hostile encounters with your people."

Nik chimed desperately. "Look, ladies, this is no time to let past differences get in our way. We need to stop Ganondorf-"

Alina clasped her hands around the fairy, silencing him, but he'd already said too much. She looked back to the Gerudo, very afraid now. She tensed, ready to draw her sword and defend herself if need be.
