Twilight of the New Gods: Fragment vs. R:2 The CC Conspiracy

Back before the advent of new technology, and even the creation of "The World", Herald Hewick created a virtual reality world, almost a portal to another dimension known as Fragment. This fantastic world was just a cover for his ambitions to create his daughter, Aura. However, things didn't go as initially intended. The severs were shut down, and they eventually would be cultivated by CC Corp into The World...

15 Years later, the servers unexpectedly returned, but not in an ordinary fashion. By this time, R:1 had been shut down and R:2 was in full swing, but these floating servers from the initial launch of Fragment remained forever sealed within the dimension of cyberspace. Within these servers were the souls of those who had been trapped within the game upon it's closing; those lost ones that were never recorded and never found. These brave souls have been fighting an eternity within the realms of cyberspace for their very survival. Now they've discovered a way out. By utilizing the closed space within R:2's walls, they've found a way to link their own servers to the Outer Dungeons hidden within the outer fabric of the game's programming. Only by finding their way through the Outer Dungeons and linking themselves with the main server of R:2 can they reclaim their lost identities and find their way back to the real world, if they're still alive that is...

Personality: Yumiko is a person who values the ability to be strong. Not only in combat, but in the dealings with others around her. She will only help out those who are fighting their hardest, and never those looking for an easy way out. Her time as a lost one has not changed this.

Bio: Yumiko's player, Yuki Michi is a person with a bright future. She was often studying, but played the world to let go of the stress. Her parents had high expectations, and the use of the world alleviated their overbearing influence.

Yumiko was helping out a group of friends when she came across an infected monster. In order to protect her friends she let them run, distracting the creature. As a result, she was player killed by the infected creature.

Even while she fought in the servers of the world, she kept a hope that soon the fighting would stop. She has gotten tired of fighting constantly for something she doesn't understand.

Personality: A seemingly jovial fellow that hides a sadness that weighs the heart of it's bearer. Does what he can to avoid pulling others down by keeping his apparent spirits up, but can sometimes place incorrect emotions in improper places, creating an akward moment for most people.

Appearance: His character's current appearance seems to be that of a middle build heavy axeman without the oversized armor seen on the majority of male axemen. However, the data has been scrambled and there are several holes in the character appearance and discolorations. The true color of his primary outfit is a deep forest green, but there are so many grey spots and negative discolorations that it's hard to tell at this juncture. His character's face resembles as handsome male in his mid-20's with shoulder-length emerald-green hair, but there is a rip in the character data that makes the appearance of the bottom right part of his face.

Biography: Once a fairly popular character in Fragment, Exceed was just that, exceedingly talented at battle and very eloquent in speech. However, he was targeted early by the Morganna Mode Gone, and was drained almost completely of his data. His character discarded, he was revived by Tantalus, and brought to Net Slum. He lived from then on as a ghostly entity without much to live for. He was unsure of his own reality, as the player, and his own identity as a character within the game itself. He didn't bother with the events of R:1, but even when the dothackers released the Morganna system, and freed Aura, he still remained just as the others who were trapped by the Fragments, isolated and discarded. He was the one that discovered the break in the Outer Dungeon walls, but initially didn't place much into it. He is still debating whether or not to engage in breaking through the wall and entering into the unfamiliar world which lies beyond it, although he has been intruiged by it's views and colors since he was given the chance to see it when some characters had stumbled upon an entrance to the Outer Dungeon. He is now waiting at the lost realm of the previous Lambda Server, which serves as a home for him along with several other Missing Fragments.

Bio: Kaito was born to be an accountant, but he always got the short end of the stick. Always getting the odd jobs, he looks to the world to be normal. There he can be normal and not the man who works odd hours. Though he rarely sees his family, they make time to see him when necessary.

Bio: Akane is a busy woman, always making sure to do her chores and give her family money. There is a large debt that keeps them together, even with her lack of a college degree. Her family allowed her to go onto the world in exchange for working so hard. Logging in only when there is a break in her life, she never keeps close to anyone online.

Personality: Vicious, brutal, psychotic? INSANE, calm? Raito acts very oddly at all times, due to his childhood energies. He acts as a PKer, and therefore is often violent and belligerent. He does, however care for his friends and goes at lengths to help them, while trying to act apathetic about them. When he PKs, he taunts his foe, and once PKed he'll take every item his opponent has.

Player Bio: Yoshiro is a ten year old student enrolled an an all-boys charter school. He has much free time, due to his excellent grades, and often easy classes. He has only one living relative, his older sister, who visits him on holidays and on occasionally on weekends. His mother and father both passed a year after he first enrolled in a bus accident, leaving his sister to work night and day to provide for Yoshiro's studies. He was given R;2 as a gift by his sister, and was told to win at all costs, and show her his prize. Using this as motivation, he became a PKer to take the prizes of others and claim them as his own. He doesn't have many friends at the school who play "The World", but even if they did, no one really talks about it.

Character Bio: Raito is a PKer, and has played as a PKer since he started playing R:2. He often attacks females, and groups of females, or groups of mostly females. One day, while hunting a group of prey, which included a young flick reaper he was stopped by a duo of noble players known as Kaien and Shibu. After an epic battle, he lost, due to the overwhelming 5-on-1 odds. His items had remained untouched by these players. About a week later, her saw the young flick reaper from the group he'd lost to. Seeing the young boy was alone, he'd stalked the boy, and was ready to PK him, when he was suddenly annihilated by a Lord Partizan, entitled Jinho. After the pathetic battle, he was revived with a proposition, join Jinho's guild, "Lucidia." He agreed with the proposition, much to the young Flick Reaper's discontent. Lucidia only has ONE rule, you must never upgrade your weapons, armors, or accessories from the day you join. Jinho, the Guild Master, battles with his original Level 1 armor and spear, and has not equipped an accessory. Raito, as an already well accustomed player didn't have to worry about his weapons. His scythe, while being short, has Paralyzing effects, and Quick Rengeki. His armor was had GP change equipped, and his accessory had 3 speed boosters. After getting acquainted with the guild, he'd discovered Kaien and Shibu were also members. He's become friends with his former antagonists, and Saito, the young Flick Reaper, who sadly joined on his first day of playing, and therefore also has Level 1 armor and scythe. Kaien and Shibu joined once they'd gotten to Dol Dona, and use mid-level equipment.

Personality: Serious in his duties, he is determined in his quest, of the two he is often the voice of reason, and the less causal spender. He likes to be always prepared for a fight, and spends all his GP on healing items and revive items. He will only participate in a group with Shibu in it, and Shibu alone.

Player Bio: Yosuke played "The World" in the past, and aspired to be like Balmung. He therefore joined a party with his best friend offline class vice president, Kakeru. They joined as their favorite mangakas, Yusuke played as Hiroyuki. They played all the quests available until "The World" had shut down, disappointed by the fact that they'd never accomplished their goal.

Character Bio: Kaien, returning to play R:2, immediately went to play the quests and complete them as fast as possible, to gain, "Balmung's Wings." When playing through a quest, they met a sol player with miraculous strength, Jinho. He however, got into a fight with a Chaotic PKer, and Shibu jumped into the fray. The three fought valiantly and easily terminated the PKer, and Jinho sent them an invitation which they'd accepted. A month later, they'd accepted the new Mac Anu quests, and saw a fairly short PKer hunting a party of new players, most likely on their first quest, Shinbu once again jumped head first into the fight, and while fighting he'd realized that although these players were low leveled, they weren't quiet as low leveled as he'd anticipated, and they worked together in harmony to defeat the PKer known as Raito.

Personality: Bold and open-minded. Not exactly the brightest apple in the orchard, but he is a sweet one. He is optimistic and quiet popular at school, and in guilds. He collects rare items, regardless of Lucidia's rule, and quests to have all Level 5 Rarity Twin-Blades. He's often the first to suggest something, and has made Kaien and Shibu look like more a PKKer team.

Player Bio: Previously known as Yoshihiro in the original games, he's changed from a Heavy Axeman to a Twin-Blader. He often sought Balmung as a sort of hero, but knew that Yosuke wanted the wings, so has given up hope,for the wings for perhaps something greater.

Character Bio: Can't ever leave a group to be PKed, due to the first few experiences Kaien and Shibu had been PKed. They've completed all of Dol Dona's quests, and are working towards defeating Breg Epona's quest, as this version's One Sin was not quite as prestigious as the last.

NEW QUEST!!!

On the forum board under The World, there was a new post labeled as such. The post detailed a new quest for players without a level cap. The adventure read as such:

NEW QUEST!!! Come and join in on the newest adventure in The World! A new threat to the peace of our lands has arisen, and the cultural borders must be shattered to combat this new foe. The old city of Carmina Gadelica will arise from antiquity and be available to be used as a base of operation. However, the clever invaders have infiltrated the city and roam freely disguised as common citizens. They are hidden well throughout the lands surrounding the city, and their base of operations is currently unknown. There is a sizable reward for those that find and destroy any invader, and a one-of-a-kind item available for the one that destroys their leader, and brings peace back to the land.

New Server Available: Lambda Server: Cultural City Carmina Gadelica.
Server Level: None. Fields and Dungeons from levels 1 to 200.
Level Cap Increase: Level 200 is now achievable
New Enemies and Boss Monsters
New Items!
New Race: Doppler (NPC race, name given to the invaders)

"So, what about doing it?" Sitting down in his room, the computer had been off for a total of ten hours. Kaito's current attenton was on, of course Akane Koizumi. The woman looked at him from the old lap top computer. "Really, Minami-san, it's pointless to not tell the truth." Her hands were continuing to make statistics on the page despite the position of her body.

"Are you going to do it?"

"Of course not, what's the point of..."

"I'll give you a raise if you get more involved, you know."

"I'll consider it." She turned back to the old lap top, her employer chuckling as he turned to look up the quest details again.

The ground felt unreal beneath her, the ache in her body enough to let her know she had just been fighting. The woman's eyes stared towards the sky, her blue ribbon receiving dirt on it. She did not speak, pulling her sword close to her. One hand on the hilt and the other on the scabbard. There would be more, but just a little rest even if it were only for the eyes.

"What the heck is this? Add all this chit now? Jinho's gonna kill this...Wait wait" he continued scanning "Kaien and Shibu are gonna be all 'For Balmung's Wings!' on this too..." He sighed and tried returning to the main menu. There was a ping, signifying the new private message. He read it. It was from Saito.

Inside Lambda Server's root town; Carmina Gadelica. Behind the "World Wall", Exceed stood just behind the World Wall that separated the Fragment outer dungeon from the new Carmina Gadelica, shocked by the sight of human players roaming around in the server.

How is this possible? The root town hasn't been active for years... Besides, I've never even seen designs like this before. Something must have happened to push the World Wall beyond the original framework of The World. But at the current moment in time, there isn't a thing a can do about it.

He continued to peer through the framework of the outer dungeon, wondering where all the other missing fragments had gone. If the fragments had been pushed out of the root town by CC Corp, then the chance for freedom could be a lot further away than he had expected.

I've got to figure out what's going on, but I can't just go up and ASK one of these new players, that would be suicide...

Yumiko's eyes opened suddenly, the hand on the hilt pulling out. The wavemaster in front of her had a blank look on their face. "They found an opening." It wasn't aimed at her, but perhaps because the person just wanted to say it. "Carmina Gadelica..." The wavemaster moved away, continuing to talk. "Freedom... Lots of freedom in Carmina Gadelica... Go through the data wall..."

Yumiko sheathed her sword, concentrating on the words. A way to stop this reality being even possible confused her. Still, it would give her something to understand. She began her journey towards the data wall, noticing a person was standing quite close to it. She drew her sword, aiming it to the neck of the person in front of her.

Exceed could easily sense the person making threatening gestures at him with a sword, and turned to face the threat. He saw that it was what seemed to be another missing fragment, and made no attempt to assume a defensive posture.

"What are you doing here? Actually, I shouldn't be asking that, it wouldn't make any sense to question another one of myself. Have you come to see the disturbing events that have recently affected our own realm?"

Turning away from the women, he peered once again through the World Wall, sighing heavily.

"I just don't understand how players with attached souls could come here. I want to know what's going on..."

"The wavemaster said freedom was here." Yumiko analyzed his movements, there was no threat there. "However much there is to be paid, freedom cannot be ignored." She sheathed her sword, moving forward to touch the wall. "I do not have the ability to go through this wall..." She shook her head and turned around, taking a step back towards where she came. The image was almost nostalgic if she could remember.

"I, however, do have the power to break free of this binding. Many of us have discovered the path to freedom, and this data wall is the key. We call it; the World Wall."

Exceed lifted his hand to the World Wall, his hand beginning to glow with unnatural green light. His data wounds glowed with that same color as he held his hand to the wall, but he dropped his hand before showing his power.

"If I do this now, who knows what the reactions of these "living" players would be? I would imagine it would not be well, especially given my appearance. You however, might be able to blend with them..."

He peered at Yumiko through the good side of his face with a melancholy expression, and slowly began to pose a question to her.

"You seek freedom... I can give it to you. But the risks involved could be very great. Currently, I am the only one of us that can remove the protection of the World Wall. Even the others with power similar to mine can only break the data walls of a smaller caliber. I suggest you think this over very carefully, for you may be the only one of us left that can give the rest of us hope for tomorrow, and for a future..."

"I do not believe that I may be able to blend out there. There is no guarantee that we are not the targets of these new arrivals in the server. However, even if they do fight me... I will always win. They have not fought for as long as any of us has. Make your decision based on this declaration." Her sword was held at her side, not attacking or retreating. Her eyes were not wavering, waiting for his decision.

Exceed thought hard before making his choice. The thought of reclaiming their already lost ground was imperative to their survival, but he had one thought on his conscience.

"I just don't want to make any moves that could put us in even more jeopardy. I would hate to think that these people are all against us. If they are innocent, and have no part in what created our eternal prison, I would not want to see them suffer a fate worse than death..."

He stared at the digital plane beneath him and continued his speech.

"I think I know who's responsible for this, or at least what's going on slightly. And if it's what I think it is, then these people are nothing more than pawns. But we must step through the threshold. There is no more time to sit idley."

With that, he outstretched his hand to Yumiko, beckoning her to step through the World Wall. His errors began glowing with that green light once again, and he began the process of opening the wall.
