Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
Have any of you watched through the whole original gundam series? I just started to watch through on my quest to watch all of MSG in sequence and I have to say the original isn't half bad. It has flaws and the animation isn't great but it is fun. The episode plots remind me of old anime (I wonder why) but the concept in general is pretty good. What are your thoughts on the original gundam series?

Oh yeah I've EVERY Universal Century series there is... even *shudder* Victory Gundam *double shudder* I'm a huge UC Gundam fan and the Original is one of the greatest masterpieces of all time, with of course the exception of it's horrid theme song: Tobe! Gundamu

You're insane. That is the finest piece of music ever written.twilight_keeper wrote:with of course the exception of it's horrid theme song: Tobe! Gundamu

*Amuro Running Sequence* brilliant choreography

See Jinki: Extend opening.
Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
Indeed it is the truth. The only thing that might beat it would be the Beginning or Meguriai insert songs for the later episodes.Kuukai wrote:You're insane. That is the finest piece of music ever written.twilight_keeper wrote:with of course the exception of it's horrid theme song: Tobe! Gundamu
(I don't care how many times I hear it, those two songs are still better than Ai Senshi, Kuukai. Although you still won for getting me to like the song.)
The animation is probably the best I've seen so far. I love the inconsistent beam rife/beam machine gun animations and the beam vulcans. Also, the Guncannon randomly picking up a boulder and throwing it is a riot.
I'm still stuck on episode 32 I believe, but I already know what happens in the series so that doesn't really motivate me to finish it much.

I'm acutally re-watching Zeta Gundam right now, but when it comes to the ultimate in beautifully recycled animation, nothing beats the original Gundam Lauching sequence.

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
This series personifies the phrase "the original and the best" because every other gundam can't hold a candle to this series(Not to say those series are bad, just that this was way more awesome)
it had plot-lines which were clear throughout the entire series, it didn't have some fairly 'normal' character remain normal until the last 6 episodes when he then reveals he's trying kill everyone in the end for some reason( Rau la crusset). any sort of intrigue, espionage, baddie switch goodie struggle was all carefully laid out from the get go.
Plus amaro and char is one of the most awesome rivalries ever and it's cool to see where it starts. They didn't even finish their fight inside the gundam-they left their gundams and found some fencing swords and started duking it out in a space station.
It was just so simplistic and effective.

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
Added interjection. I'd agree in saying that the Original Kidou Senshi was indeed one of the greatest classics of all time, however, I'm gonna need to straighten out of few wrinkles in the "system" here. The U.C. timeline is BY FAR the best of the best when it comes to the Gundam series (for one because every other timeline is a side story and therefore cannot compare in effective awesomeness to the original. But where I'm coming from is the quality of the entire package. The U.C. timeline is considered by and large it's one massive storyline with the series' more like page breaks. Because I will say that Stardust Memory is one of my favorite series of all time. Sure the fact that Char and Amuro were missing from that chunk of time is apparent, but by further research, it will by brought to the attention of the public at large that Char was hiding out at Axis trying to recover what had been lost during the One Year War. (Also the first appearance of Haman Karn oddly enough) That was Char's Deleted Affar. That and Amuro was ailing from the after-effects of the One Year War and would not be able to recover for seven years, at the pick up of Zeta Gundam. I liked Zeta, but I didn't like that everyone and their brother were already newtypes, although that was the premise of the story and would allow Char to make his case for Char's Counterattack. If it seems like I'm just ranting, please let me know, otherwise, I'd be happy to hear feedback.SnowManZero wrote:This series personifies the phrase "the original and the best" because every other gundam can't hold a candle to this series(Not to say those series are bad, just that this was way more awesome)

I'm also a fan of how UC has managed to stay 100% true to the 70s/80s aesthetic of the original while making it look cool. That's something even Star Trek has never done... Even Char's mullet in Unicorn is awesome...

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
I was hoping it was Johnny Ridden that was going to be the villian in Unicorn... *tear*
Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
For Kycilia! Is that guy in anything besides toys and Gihren no Yabou? I've played everything except Titans in that game, I always want to spell it "Raiden," since that's obviously what it is.
We're not sure it's Char yet, but I can tell you it's not Johnny unless he got voice lessons and major plastic surgery...

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
Yeah I know that. I doubt it's Char because, come on, I know Char's escaped many a disaster that would otherwise leave him dead but I'm PRETTY sure that he died when Axis was pushed away from Earth by Amuro. They even said they sensed Char's power fading away as he did it. I'd like to think it's Char but I highly doubt it.
Johnny's been in every Gundam based game since Encounters in Space. He's just a variations character, but he's canon and the only character who technically suvived throughout the entire U.C. main line. So that's why I was hoping he'd be in Unicorn and we'd actually get to see him in an anime.

But... He's Char! Die, change hair, change name, fight war. It's what he does!!
What about Mirai? Lots of characters survived, really... Did he actually fight after the One Year War?

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
According to the Encounters in Space game he was listed as MIA and taken off the active roster after the battle of A Baoa Qu. Apparently in one of the Gundam Evolve episodes featuring the three Zetas, the red Zeta was supposedly planned to have been pilotted by Johnny Ridden.
What do you mean Ridden was the only one surviving? What about Captain Brightslap Noa? He's been a captain all the way until Hathaway's Flash, and even then it's only semi-canonical, although I really wish it was fully canonical. Mafty Navilles Erin is my favourite character after all.
About Full Frontal, wasn't it already revealed who he actually is already? His identity could get pretty confusing if you didn't know about Char's background.

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
There was another variations account during the Phantom's Last arc of Char's Counterattack where he was accounted to recieve one of the 5 produced Zaku IIIs which his was re-painted and dubbed Hazard Extreme
Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
Really? I skimmed the summary of events thus far on the official site and Audrey is Mineba (her character page changed to reflect this too), but it didn't say much about FF... I need to buy/read a whole lot of books before I'm even close to knowing everything that happens, though...Kouen wrote:About Full Frontal, wasn't it already revealed who he actually is already? Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
There were WAY too many variations to even count, plus the novels: (Sentinel War being my favorite) that's more U.C. to catch up on besides your main storylines. And honestly, I don't even really count Victory as canon, but I'm fearing it really is.
Re: Mobile Suit Gundam *the original series*
Pretty sure it is. G-Saviour is really the only thing that has been totally recalled as far as I know...

I know I know, it was just...so...bad... but I'm also glad they wiped G-Savior as well.
