... hmm... overlooked games eh?

1: .hack//IMOQ
2: .hack//G.U. Vol:1-3
3: Dirge of Cerberus FF7, since it answered several questions about Vincent that weren't delved upon in the original FF7, like why he's able to transform, for instance.
4: Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007, if my copy hadn't been stolen...
5: Bleach: Shattered Blade, controls are a little... repetitive, but it's an entertaining rental.

Atelier Iris Series - alchemy at it's finnest.

highly underated colors and graphics
simplistic.
fast paced.
Variaty. No boss has the same attacks, and this is a freaking RPG.
no humongus diologe
buetiful world setting.
BEST MUSIC OF ANY GAME EVER. NO OTHER GAME COMES ANYWHERE CLOSE.

Romancing Saga Series - how an rpg should really function.

make your own path.
many characters.
good music.
lots of creativity.
difficult.

YS series - who cares about falling in love with a pricess. how about two godesses?

variaty in boss attacks and level design.
good music.
nice arcade style. (beat a level, fight a boss, repeat)
multiple difficulty modes. some games have multiple characters.

Super buster bros. (super pang)- you'll forever have a fear of bubbles.

huge variaty in music.
huge variaty in backrounds.
4 different difficultys that change dirastically from difficulty to difficulty.
2 different modes of play.
very responsive controlls. ( you can be incredibly presise.)

certian dojshin games. - when it comes to creativity and a break from mainstream crap there's nothing that calms the nerve like a good simple dojin game.

mischif makers (my favorite game i've played) - if all games had this much time a care put into them, this world would be a better place. this game has somthing that most games don't. FUN FACTOR. you know, the gaming industrys three letter F-word.

The Granstream Saga and Illusion of Gaia.
Granstream's graphics where pretty bad, but It was a PS game, so it's not going to look that great. Besides the graphics, the storyline and game play were great. Though, I did beat it in a few hours..maybe that's why.

Illusion of Gaia is unpopular for a reason I don't know. The graphics are nice, the gameplay is nice, and the story line is excelent...Though, the gameplay is very different, but I guess that's why I like it so much.

actually i have herd syphony of the nights music. it's got some good songs (lost painting) but the battle theams really uninspiering.

my guess as to why people didn't like illusion of gaia was becuse it had a uniqe atmosphere to it. most reveiwers see a game that is unique and rate it harshly on that. and most unintelligent people just agree with what reveiwers say without thinking about it themselves. thats my guess.

I wasn't being too serious..well, it IS the best game OST in my oppinion.
Although, the way they repeat a certain track (that I forgot the name of, because I hate it anyway) in almost every area in the reverted castle was very annoying and dissapointing.
And I quite liked the battle themes. Pretty intense.

That was kind of like people with .hack//G.U. Reviewers don't like it because it's not exactly like Final Fantasy, or some other ridiculously popular game, they say it sucks, and then no one likes it.
Which is why I prefer PLAY, because they rate fairly.
(oops, went off-topic.)

Now that I think of it, Castlevania seems to be pretty unpopular, though I don't know why. I guess because the game play is repetitive, even though the story line and level design change.

Although, if they keep it up, Castlevania's getting pretty dried out what with the more games they make. Hopefully, the new DS game will bring in some new elements for the series.

I rarely post here anymore, but I had to respond to this. Your above statement is not even kind of true -- not even .00001% true. It's funny that you think Play, out of all magazines from which to choose, rates games "fairly." If by "fairly" you mean overly high, then yes, Play inflates its scores more than any other gaming magazine. For an example, see here, and compare their average scoring ratios with other sites'. For every below average review Play writes, they write more than two above average (positive) ones. It's almost the opposite for more credible sources in the gaming journalism field; Play has been known to wildly inflate their review scores. Hell, they can't even seem to write coherent, grammatical sentences.

Your logic that the reason someone doesn't enjoy //G.U. is because it's not exactly like Final Fantasy or another popular title is pretty laughable. Do people even think about why they're typing before they click submit? I swear.

Anyway, the Shadow Hearts series was always grossly overlooked, partially due to the fact that the first in the series was released on the same day as Final Fantasy X -- huge marketing mistake on Midway's part. SH: Covenant is still my favorite PS2 RPG, and although it got great reviews, it didn't sell nearly as many copies as a game that great should have.

about that. i agree. but also i think alot of castlevania fans are unfair about the series. Lament of innocence and curse of darkness were both good games in there own right. they had all the castlevania similaritys: boss rush, two difficultys, two caracters, and famillier settings. and yet alot of castlevania reveiwers claim that only the 2-d games are good while the 3-d are dissapointing. not to say there wern't good 2-d castlevanias (dawn of sarrow springs to mind) but i think some of the castlevania games don't get a chance.

P.S. just for clarrification. nomater how hard some ones trys they can never make a "fair" reveiw. as humans every thing we reveiw is biased. that's why it's importent for multiple reviews.

Not necessarily. Not everything a writer reviews is biased. If, for example, even though it's a bad example, a reviewer is friends with a development team and thinks to himself, "You know, I love these guys. There's no way I'm giving them any bad reviews," this is exhibiting a bias -- not an opinion. As humans, everything that's being reviewed is opinionated and subjective; this is completely different from bias -- a preconceived, prejudiced notion.

Better example: If Jeff Gertsmann, who was just fired by Gamespot for the "tone" of his 6/10 review, after Eidos had threatened to pull its ads, had scored Kane and Lynch, say, 9/10 because of advertising pressure, this would be an example of exhibiting bias -- moreso if he had this planned in his mind beforehand. However, he wrote what he truly thought of the game and, as a result, was terminated, because Eidos threatened to pull its ads from Gamespot's site.

There's a pretty big denotative and connotative difference between subjectivity and bias.

I'll have to mention here the games that are only released in Japan mostly, as there's almost no interest on them to be released in America, but are quite good games nonetheless, such like:
Captain Tsubasa
Saint Seiya: Chapter Sanctuary
Full Metal Alchemist (though they were released, they're so overlooked yet they're alot like KH..and i like them >3> )

Also games such like all .Hack games, Xenosaga and maybe Tekken can fit in pretty well.
And though i'm not sure if they were really overlooked or not, back at the PS1 some games such like Gex and Bloody Roar were truly amazing (Crash and Spyro too, but they're so widely known in comparison to the pimp-ish gecko)

GEX FTW!!! i played two of his games, enter the geko, and number 3. at game FAQs i find that most people didn't like this game becuse of the quotes he uses. I though the quotes were great. "shut down all garbage smashers on the detention level, shut down all garbage smashers on the detention level" - gex (in the computer world)

there is one game i can't remember the name to. there were many different games that had this idea but there was one specific on on the NES that i loved. you could choose between a girl (fast), a boy (normal), and a machien (slow). the idea was to use chalk to fill in the backround. there were many different monsters (unbrellas, tosters, magnates, owles, clocks, etc....) and many different worlds. there point of the story was to get a princess out of a mioor she was captured in. if enemys touched the chalk line before you were done drawing you would die. if the chalk line took too long to draw enemys would be created on it. it's been forever since i played that game but i remember how much i loved it.

also kickle cubical was a game from my childhood that i loved dearly. i really miss those days.

Shadow Hearts, I've only played the second one a little at a friends house, and watched her play both a lot, but both of the two first games look awesome. And even though it has that same stupid boring battle system as Final Fantasy, the Judgment Circle (I think that's what it's called, you have to press a button in a certain rhythm for you to be able to attack, and get critical hits) makes it less boring. Also, it's got a good story, good music and hilariously good characters. ("I TOLD YOU, I'M GAY!")
