i have had to pause suff like ghost in the shell and death note at the start a couple of times
as there's a hell of a lot to try to take in if you're seriously trying to watch it tbh and i consider my self a very fast reader
but i dont really care about a few very rare cases

I prefer subs to dubbes.Dubbes screw up too much and most of the time I never finish the series.Subs make everything fir for some reason. Its werid like that. And for some reason, its the same for Star Ocean:TtEoT(i know its not a anime, but the voices sucked sooo bad i order the jap version and had the translation notes with me the whole time.)

It would have to depend on the voice actors and how well they did it. For instance I cant stand the english for Samurai 7 yet I dont like the jpn for Wolf's Rain.
Whatever sounds good to the ears is the winner in my book.

Can't argue with that. I generally find jap VA's to be too grating on my nerves. Especially the female voices. They can be soo high pitched that it hurts my ears. English VA's are more pleasant on my ears, and most of the time seem to fit the characters better.
But yeah whatever you like more is always best.

Nearly all dubs are terrible (though that's not really surprising, JPs take the business far more seriously than NAs). Don't get me wrong, there are some good dubs. There are even a few anime I prefer to watch dubbed, but in general, I prefer my anime subbed.

English, assuming the series hasn't been butchered.
Though I like watching in Japanese too.

To me it depends on the character, weather its a game or show, and if its not out-of-place.
Haseo in GU, I like the Japanese voice better, same goes with most of the characters from it.
But in other things I personally like English.

Personally, I would have to lean towards Japanese Dubbed anime, in an overall sense of meaning, for it is the native, and original language of anime. In certain circumstances, such as Naruto, Dragonball Z, Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop, or any other highly Americanized anime, the English dubbing sounds natural, since the popularity and stable situating in America over the years solidifies that claim. Newer animes, such as D.Gray-Man, Death Note, or Tsubasa Chronicle aren't circulated enough in america to have a successful attempt at having as much of an impact in english as they would japanese, though it all depends on the personal feeling of the viewer. For one thing, .hack//ROOTS failed miserably at English dubs IMO.

Clearly some of you guys are either too hard to please or weren't around when the dubbing was REALLY BAD. Seriously it's not that bad as long as you keep a somewhat open mind about things. The only dubbing that is really terrible are the ones that show no respect at all for the original show. (anything made by 4kids) I mean english VA try really freaking hard and seem to really love their work. It's not fair to put them down or not give them a chance because you're too used the JP. voices. It's alot easier to get non fans to watch with dubs than subs.

It's not a matter of putting them down, it's personal preference. It's not as if English VAs are being made fun of, or weren't given a chance, it's merely "what you like better." Just for example's sake , someone choosing Ramen over Sushi doesn't necessarily mean they hate the other, it's just what is accustomed to their personal liking. Not everyone likes English voice actors, just the same as not everyone liking Japanese voice actors. Neither choice is meant to put the other down, both sides are respected in my book, though you can't expect the same opinions from everyone. This is what makes us human. Choice. People's free-will decisions are what makes them happy, makes them human. Criticism for that is unconstitutional.

It's not the "they are both ok but I prefer Japanese" people I have a problem with but the "Japanese is always better" "All dubs except for a select few which are still not as good as the Japanese one ,suck" and the "Japanese VA's always are more professional about their work than English ones" As a VA in training I find these comments very close minded and offensive.

I see what you are saying, such a classification is ignorance to put it simple. Japanese isn't
always better, but then again, those that are truly biased will never see things your way. It's merely a preferfence for me, not a complete one-sided partialism. You are a VA in training, and you know will come across a lot of people who will try to put you down, and others you won't see eye to eye with, just like any other kind of career or commitment. All I can say is, keep moving forward, and never let anyone try to slow you down. I wish you luck in VA, and in all that you do, Jimbob.

Indeed. Ignorance is one of those things that really gets on my nerves whenever I see these Dubs vs. Subs discussions. So far we've managed to avoid that in this topic for the most part.
Like the people who won't even give dubs a try and are always putting it down are really showing their ignorance. The same thing the other way around too.
Sometimes after I watch a Dub and I'm back on the main menu I sometimes switch it to the Japanese voices and rewatch it to hear what it sounded like originally out of curiosity. Since I know the basic jist of what they are saying I can still enjoy it.
Like it has been said before just watch what you like.
Just don't make it your personal mission to say that one is absolutly better than the other. You loose peoples respect that way.

Direct, and true, Haseo-Skaith. Well said. Many people don't like change, because they are "afraid" of it. To be more specific, when one gets used to a certain regularity, change naturally would bring about uncertainty, which many people don't know how to adjust to or prepare for. Any kind of uncertainty you cannot fully prepare for, though possible acceptance or even a simple acknowledgement should always be an open option. Of course, biasy, otherwise known as partial selection is drawn from uncertainty, and that is when people begin to "choose" sides entirely, not wanting to accept the change, or even give it oppurtunity.

Damn man, you're something else. You seem to have an answer for everything, and with such detail, like AT ^_^

Twilight Haseo, you praise me too much. Like I stated before, I am merely voicing my opinions, with what i've learned through life's experiences. If you wish to continue this conversation however, PM me, I do not want this going off-topic anymore than it has. Plus, don't take what I say offensively, it's just to save aggravation from others, you should know.

I don´t realy have anything against the dubs... but i like to enjoy the products the way they where made instead of a modification.
per example... there is a polish movie called Avalon, directed by Mamoru Oshii. (a japanese director)
So i could get it in english, japanese or polish... since i can choice i would prefear to have the original polish audio and english subs.
It´s nothing against the dubs... at least not the english ones... lol.
