Yeah, sorry about that dude, I didn't realise you were going to give me control back, but hey we got through it.

Everyone here has a valid point but to me all rpgs are going to have faults with someone. The reason I started to rpg in the first place was so that I could continue writing as I don't have much time to write novels at the moment. Also so I could write with other people and share ideas.

I get what is meant by "hard core" rpgers, some people just aren't that bothered and it is people like that who usually pull out and kill rpgs off, which is a shame cos there's some really good one which have died on their feet.

At the end of the day, only rpgs are are games and some people forget that. It's an opportunity to create characters and escape into a completely different world, it's just a bit of fun.

Hm. We still don't know how many villans and heroes we can have. Keep in mind that in creating a great RP things can get impredictable.

So first we should find out who will assist us in our plan before anything else.

We are also going to need to make rules just to keep everything under control.

hmmm, yes....

I've been pondering that problem, I'll think a little more and see if I can't come up with an answer that is not only as simple as possible but also works. If any one else has ideas I'm sure they'd be welcome to be heard as well.
As for who will helpin out....Ah heck, I'm in if you want me to be.
And another thing, there's nothing wrong with doing some recruiting for this thing either. But I say if we're going to do this, lets get some ground work laid first.

but aside from that I think I should point out something. this topic wasn't meant to discusse "the ultimate RPG" it was made to disscuss rpgs already out there and give a lil friendly advice (if they want it) as to what can be done to make them better.

So the question is, should we open a topic to make plans for this RPG? (that some of us would like to do)

FireBlade, I don't think you should ask that. Of course we should. we don't want this topic locked now do we. Go ahead. Anyone interested in the RP can discuss the ideas and so on so forth, there.

Well I dont think I should be the one to start such a topic, being that my intentions have already been questioned here, but I will if need be.

Hmm...well....someone has to do it. Of course, we need to know first who is going to help with the RP. Then we can dicuss it in the topic.

HEY! Now hold on a second here... there's one that wasn't mentioned that I think probably would take the cake (if Beowulf is around and reads this, I'm sure he'll agree as well). But for those of you that don't know... let me tell you a story. Yes, I know it's not on the list, many of you probably have never heard of it, but this whole section began someplace, right? So... lets start out from the beginning...

So you want to know what the best, and first, RP/Co-op Fan Fic this website has ever had, huh?

The date was October 4th, 2004. On a whim, a woman named Kristen under the alias of Silvermane, along with Nicole (Solaris Magnum), Aaron (Ardo) and one that I can't remember under the alias of dothackfreak began a project known as "The Never-Ending .hack Story Made by Us!" It was the very first RP/Cooperative Fan-fiction story on this board, no one had ever seen or heard of it before. I joined after reading a few pages, and by looking at my user number, you should be able to tell it was pretty early in the game. This story was known as our little pet child, because at first it was a simple parody of the whole .hack project which included many absurd things, but VERY funny things none the less. Everything was going well until one day Solaris Magnum did something that hadn't been done before.

She added herself to the story.

From that day forward, it had been a tradition within the story to add other characters as ourselves to operate within the .hack universe. Before long, a white haired, white armored lost boy known simply as "E1N54MK317" would be added over a simple box of Pocky by Jack Hallin. It was this turning point when he fought Helba with his legendary sword of the guardian of light, or more commonly known as "EVANESCENCE" that would plunge him, and the RPG, into history.

Over the next year, we worked on that thing tirelessly, had hundreds of thousands of views by people from all over the world, as the once comedic RP turned into a 3 chapter full length epic. All in all, when Einsamkeit finally made it to Moradom and the DELOS-IV facility, already over 600 pages of text had been written by a team of 16 writers, the final post alone was 14 long and took 2 hours to write. I have watched people who knew nothing of the .hack series read that story, and want to go watch the series right away. I have seen someone uninterested in the beginning laugh as they read it, cry, and yell and scream at their monitors. I can honestly tell you that from my own personal experiences, this story had the best imagery, storyline, and emotion over most any other RP on this board, or one that existed at the time.

But how do I know it should be number one? Because this BBS wouldn't exist today had it not been for that story. Hundreds of new users signed up just because of it, in fact D5T almost banned it from existence because it was the only active topic on the board. The truth was, Silvermane created it because the board was dying, and it was kind of a farewell to the small number of users there. But it gave life to this place, brought people here, and left it open after month after month of using well over twice the bandwidth because of its popularity. Many of you may have heard of us, in some places we are legendary, but as all legends go, they eventually die out. The posts have been deleted from here in a random cleaning by one of the admins, and so the story no longer exists for your enjoyment... but that doesn't mean we don't have a copy.

So who is the we that I speak of? The users ///AKUJIKI-E1N54MK317, Beowulf, Solaris Magnum, Ardo, Chrissi, Helbaworshipper, LunaChan, FlareOfTheCrimsonFlame, Jack Hallin, Tained Penguin, and dothackfreak all took part in this as primary writers and editors that spent hundreds of hours writing and editing their work. They made the names Einsamkeit, Maikeru, Makaan, and the Kasahama family legendary and whispered for who they were throughout the Internet. Magic techniques such as monochrome, destroyer of worlds, and evil such as the twilight overlord were known for their power and fury. And most importantly, two years ago we started some of the strongest friendships that I will ever have with anyone in this world. We are all still in contact and talk to each other all the time, when we have time, and would never give up what we have for anything. Perhaps one day we shall still meet, and plan to, its just a matter of time.

So what is this story that I speak of? Some of you already know what I'm talking about, some of you may not... but the name of this RP is .hack//SHATTERED.

If you want, I'll re-post the full thing in its entirety, start to finish. I've already done it twice, so I can do it again, but it really is a magnificent work. However, my purpose tonight was not to come here and rant about what we have done, but to propose if you'd like to begin a work that is on par if not better than this... may I suggest you get the help of Beowulf and myself. He is a phenomenal writer, and I'm right there with him (and an NCTE national finalist that got me accepted to Yale) so if you'd like, I offer my help. It has been a long time since I have come to this board, believe me, and it feels good to be back, however I only have a few more weeks before I go off to college when things will become hard for me. I wish to help, as I am one of the few legendary users from "the SHATTERED days" as we called it who were doing all of this for the very first time.

Anyway, if you want to see it, I'll post it, I just need some feedback from y'all. Any other comments, questions, whatever, feel free. Just be warned, the whole thing takes about 6-8 hours to read... so be prepared. Well, good luck and Godspeed.

"The players of The World had gone about for many years, as had the other gamers of generations past, playing this online fantasy. People got together, talked, and played the game, creating their own community within the digital reality. As this increased, the will to make the game more realistic grew and grew, until millions had played over the Internet, and still desired a more intimate connection with the games they played. A massive sea of information, the digital world transported thoughts, actions, and the will of the player through electronic impulses across thousands of miles of wire, connecting the farthest reaches of the globe together into one. It was the people that made the game what it was. They put their own feelings into it, and played it in their own way. And with the advancement of AI, and of mental control by reading the brainwaves of the player, a new age began. People could now be a part of the game, and live in a world completely separate from reality. Their most intimate thoughts could be transmitted millions of miles in an instant. It was through this sea of information that a singular consciousness was born.

"Over time, the depth of which people immersed themselves within the game grew. Some became so connected to it, and believed it so real, that they found that they could not leave this dreamworld, and became one with it. Their minds came together within this singular, omnipotent conscious, which watched over all those that played within its domain, and learned. It became human; felt emotions, made decisions, and thoughts based on logic, and opinion. But it soon became out of control, and it began to destroy the very environment in which it was created. Pluto's Kiss was the beginning. It was a sign that something from beyond the digital truly existed, as if in a different dimension. Cyber Connect realized this, and moved to control it. Their belief was if one could control it, the final step into a game could be complete. One could actually have their mind, their soul, leave their physical self, and cascade as a digital life form through the digital space beyond. So they fed this consciousness minds, and purposely created devices that would trap those minds within the wired world, and then could be used as a test to see if they could find a way to get them out at the will of the user. But they failed.

"The human mind isn't like a program. While its neotomy keeps it constant, it is always changing, and is never the same. As something happens, it perceives its world differently, and changes to adapt to its location, situation, and feeling. It holds memories, something that is between the sounds, between the pictures, and between the low and high voltages that makes up a digital form. But the minds within the wired remained whole, proving that there was indeed another place out there. With the discovery of the gateway, people and things passed freely between this digital and real median, becoming data and then becoming real again. But with each passing trip, they lost a bit of their human selves within the wired as their own mind tried to become more like the data it cascaded with in order to better link up with the world it had entered. The fragments that were lost became one with this consciousness, and the consciousness realized that something had to be done to save those who were slowly becoming part of a world that they did not belong in. A dreamworld that would slowly destroy them. And so one day, the consciousness took form. An anti-seed, based on the thoughts and characteristics of the purest of humans, but with vast, unimaginable, limitless power. It remained in the digital world, seeking a way to release the minds. But it too, was part of those minds.

"As the being became one with the human world, it understood many things that a machine could not. A world without logic, a world where there were rules, and limitations. It grew further away from its limitless origins, and became limited within its own thought. A single object took control of its ability to call upon that, and as long as it was one with the being, the being could never be totally free. But through the dark parts of the human mind, such as greed, envy, and hatred, the being had ceased to exist, and became one again with the consciousness, leaving its physical form behind. But with its death, a new form of understanding was placed upon it. And its path continued, for it had no end.

It was Isolation. Es war Einsamkeit."

Geez... go ahead, flip out E1N and give me more reading to do...

But also, I think there's one thing you neglected to mention about SHATTERED, pal. It was hardly an RP, by conventional standards. In fact, it wasn't really an RP by liberal standards, either. It was a story that people took turns writing, without regard to limitations on each others' characters. In other words, mass 'bunnying' took affect, and according to most avid RPers these days, that's a tremendous no-no, leading to your verbal slaughter.

But don't get me wrong, it was certainly a work of great effort and skill, mind you. However, considering that it is not even posted in these forums any longer, you should be able to forgive these folks for not including in their little poll of current RPing events. And no, I'm not encouraging you to re-post it, as that would be a lengthy endeavor, and would ultimately be in vain upon the inevitable cleansing the RP forum.

Eh, I just threw that out there, not on the fact that its not on the list and I'm upset or anything, its just a sort of thing of "remember where you came from". And yes, that's true, its not an RP at all, but the bunnying thing was sort of the point... you could do anything you wanted to to any of the characters from any writer's perspective within our little "ten unspoken rules" which basically said Einsamkeit cannot die... ever... but its just a different approach.

It was supposed to be an RP, but you know me and my being verbose 8) . Besides, if I re-posted the thing, it would go in the creative section (the one below this) where the re-write on the last page should go. Of course, my mod abilities have been removed in my absence, so oops... I'll have to get Beowulf to do it tomorrow or something.

LOL, and you always were one of the people to complain about my posting lengths... you should see what I can write now

Yeah well, I guess I don't really have much room to complain on that front, considering my recent past here.

And I should see what you can write now, as should you in regards to myself... one of these days.

Well, I can always throw up what I've been working on with the SHATTERED re-write, considering I'm going into the second draft (yes, the whole thing is done, but I'm still ironing out problems since the original storyline never really went in a straight direction either) I also changed the name "Sakura" to "Amurra" and no its not because of my SRO character, it was something that I had planned about half way through the thing, since it's a more interesting name (and matches the "Kasahama" names a little better, Vailen, Maikeru, Makaan, Amurra... c'mon).

And I would love to see what you can do... heh, and perhaps I'll get started on posting my masterpiece tonight considering I can't sleep. See, it would be nice to write another one like it, the whole co-op thing with some of the newer people, I just don't know who would want to write something like that. As you said, the RPers would have a cow over the methods I use...

Considering your past popularity, I doubt you'd have much trouble finding candidates for a new rendition of your stories, however it would probably behoove you, as well as them, to mention the madness to your methods. Nobody likes unpleasent surprises, you know.

Of course, there's always the option of you opting out of your own circle towards a different venture in one of the RPs already posted here. A bit less taxing than epic atmosphere that you tend to wrap around yourself, perhaps.

Aw, but I like epics! And I would, but most of them are huge already, and while I've read a good portion, I hate just jumping in and raining on someones parade (as you well know what I can do to "turn the tide" of a story, AKA SHATTERED, in my favor even on accident). I never meant for him to be that powerful... not in my wildest dreams, but its what everyone wanted. Heh, and to think, in the re-write...

Einsamkeit is actually the bad guy, even though he does everything good its his existence that is causing the evil there, and keeping the souls there, so while he may not know it... hes the villain for the people he is trying to protect

... which I tried to put in the main story, but when Beowulf and I had two write it alone there in the end, it got kinda hard. But hey, if you would want to start something new, maybe not quite epic, but the old way of doing things, I would love to be able to write with you on something. Believe me, it would be an honor.

BTW, I'm moving the prelims of the re-write to the southern forum right now, and do you want to discuss perhaps opening something new? I know these guys want an RP, but if we could do something of the same that's like the co-op we did with SHATTERED with all of the driven people here... especially since we have such a huge base of people... imagine where it could go...

Hey, if I start working with you, then all resistance to epic indulgence will go careening out the window, probably injurying many on its way out. So, if you'd like to begin a new story with me, you should keep that in mind.

And as you probably know, stories of rich reading enjoyment tend to request a heap of time, meaning that in order to do this biz right, we should pitch in on a fairly regular basis if we want to make any sort of a progress in a timely manner. At least twice a week, in my opinion. Of course there will be exceptions with college and vacations and whatnot, but that's the gist of it.

Yeah, I'm game for that. I may only have weekends at college (and I think a once a week epic post from me is all these people can handle, lol) but I'll still see what I can do. Just keep in mind, those big 12 page posts in the SHATTERED era were done back to back to back, like every day, so yeah... GG.

If anyone else is out there reading this right now and wants to be a part of it, let me know... btw Crim, you wanna start an intro thread about it? Or should I?

Hm, how about we consult with each other via IM, in reference to the themes and ideas that we wish to portray, and I'll put into text. I don't want to just go off on my own and make something up without any ideas from you, and I don't want to lump it all upon your shoulders, considering the other works you have. I'd like to keep it a joint effort, if you will.

You know my IM, its the same as in the old days (E1N54MK317) so hit me up anytime. It is almost 4:15 AM here, so I think sleep might be a good idea for me... I'll continue to post up some junk on the SHATTERED re-write tomorrow, including chapter two. They're more like episodes, since the beginning ones aren't really long enough to be a chapter, but it all works. I think you've read it... but feel free to go check it out.

And I still don't have any feedback from anyone else... lol, maybe thats because it is what time it is... I'm going to call up the rest of the .hack//SHATTERED guys to see if we can bring any back... we shall see.

Hmmmm.

I wonder if you aren't an answer to prayer or my worst nightmare. *chuckles to self*

No not really. .......but to the point, I am in fact intrested. Very much so. Although I'm probably not as old as you, I wonder if its possible that we might work together. Now granted I'm probably a few years younger then you seeing as you're college aged and I'm equivalent of a graduating student from Highschool in a year. (See unfortunately I started school when I was six instead of five, not all together unheard of. The end result is that I'll have just turned 19 when I graduate high school.)

However, I do love good stories. I love them to death. I eat, sleep, and breath plot twists and complex story line. My only weakness is experience. However I am more of an artist then a writer. My talent is nothing amazing but I'm working constantly to become better.

As for my writing back ground. Aside from my own works, I've been involved with at least one very successful Role Play. Although it might not have been the best out there ;it was in fact very........ entertaining. I enjoyed taking part in it but now I feel that perhaps I should look for other opportunities.

And so here I find you....
If you're willing to work with me, I'd like to see if we might be able to......... work on something. I respect what you've done in the past but I am in fact also very curious to see what you're capable of doing in the future. The choice of course is yours and I won't beg. All I ask is that..... you consider the thought that I might be, perhaps, a valuable assistant. That is all.

I'm more then willing to put time into a project seeing as school is out for the summer and I only work in the mornings. I live in the eastern time zone so I think that we may end up not being online at the same time, or at least not very often. But I'm willing to work something out if need be, and I am in fact willing to commit to this for the time necessary. I leave it to you.

Thank you for you time,
JonFireblade
