I really liked the FMA dub, it had some of my favorite VAs from Funimation in it. As far as getting names wrong, that's just a pronounciation issue, and you'll run into that whenever you switch languages no matter how good a VA is. It's just easier for someone who speaks English not to say it exactly the same way it is said in Japanese.

You should expect that to happen. Its from a diffrent culture. Like ive seen a video where a japense guy tries to say the days of the week in english. He can barely pronounce it.

The best VA I know is Orochimaru in japense.

i've never actually heard that in the UK O_o
the dbz i used to watch was the american dub. i never even knew uk dubs exist O_o

and america is better is it?

americans screw such animes right up the arse O_O
it's almost like a whole different, infinitly worse anime :O
Well your trying to compare our regular dubs a "Fan Dub". You really can't compare those two; of course American dubs arent that great but hell I would rather have American dubs than UK dubs.

EDIT: Lucky Star hasn't even made it here yet O.O
now there are two points here :P
1: might as well compare it to a fan dub, as that non existing english one might as well be D:
2: it still shows how such things just get destroyed by americans :P (and i'm not saying it'd be any better in english O_o, it may be a better better, may be worse, but either way, it'll still just not work one bit lol)
Phail! Fan dubs are made by fan's they aren't professionals so of course it's gonna be bad at some points. Now if you look at the UK dub of DBZ Turlus(The Goku look-alike) when ever he spoke it was like a log ass run-on sentence it never stopped, and none of the voices matched with their characters. America may destroy things but man the UK dub just discraceful. They pisssed, and vomited on DBZ with that dub.

It happens alot in the Bleach dub.
Bosch (Ichigo) says Zangetsu wrong half the time. Zhan-get-sue not Zhan-got-sue.
Renji Abuhrai not Renji Abhurai
Once or twice I've heard people call Orihime Or-e-hime (rhyme with rhyme lol)
Those are examples. I haven't really payed attention after they went to Namek so there are alot more than I know.

Yet another example of American VAs winning at life. <3 @ Mikuru.
yet another example of how they screw up the japanese words
moah? who the hel is moah?
and thats not even an english word. thats not allowed >: (
of course with subs it is as we're used to the japanese words. moe, ecchi, oniisan etc :P

and haruhi couldnt even say her own name right :/

Seriously though. Those are very minor details that only the original Japanese watchers would pick up. I didn't watch the original Japanese version, so it didn't bother me at all.
LOL! that image ftw
although, you not caring would contradict the existance of this topic :P

but yeah, gtfo of our japanese world if you dont care for such things D:

the forum is telling me to double post if i want to do this ("You may embed only 3 quotes within each other.").... hmm, i think i'll just do this instead:

i'm not saying the UK one is good at all :P
i'm not trying to defend it lol
they can all burn in hell ^^

i wonder how engrish would be in the dubs. it just wouldnt exist, so that parts destroyed and engrish ftw (especilly in ep 24 of fate/stay night :x)

for someone that knows some japanese (not saying i know it well or anything at all), but comparing how stuff is in japanese against english, imo, i just love how everything is in japanese. maybe i'm too used to english and biased in many ways, but that doesnt change the fact that i still prefer how stuff works in japanese :P
and japanese and english work VERY differently

Moah is moe. They didn't screw it up.

And since when has that not been allowed? If I recall FLCL dub has a number of honorifics and some more well known Japanese words like kawaii.

And to be fair I'm okay in Japanese and saying stuff right and I can't say it right at a good pace. She said it pretty fast.

i know >_<
it's just that i mean it wasnt pronounced right
i'm just being very picky :P

overall, if you just want to casually watch it, it seems fine. but for someone like me, with all the reasons i first started amassed together. unless i'm forced to, i don't see a reason why not to go with japanese.

i downloaded spirited away, when a friend was round, in english. but i still watched it non the less instead of trying to search for a japanese version
same again when it was on TV (which surprised me :O lol)

the first time i watched the first series of ghost in the shell (the first "real" anime i watched) i'm pretty sure that was in english
before that, the stuff like pokemon, yugioh, digimon, beyblade, dbz that i'd see random eps of on cartoon network, i wouldn't consider calling that watching anime properly (far too cut up and like i said, just watching whatever eps ended up on TV when i was watching) :/

but apart from those, i think the rest i've seen has been in japanese and there's no good reason i can think of to go back if i have a choice :P

English. Cause I know what thier saying and even if the voices are bad at least I can concentrate on whats happening in the picture no what the words say on the bottom of the screen.

I perfer english. Not only is it a version that I can understand, but it also means I don't have to read subs, which is hard for me since I have a reading disorder that makes me a slow reader. So if I have to read subs I spend a lot of times having to pause the DVD to read what they are saying, which almost doubles the amount of time it takes for me to watch the whole thing.

I think the quality of dubs has gone up considerably over the years. The most recent anime's I've seen I have yet to see an instance where the lips and the voices are not in sync. And I think they've been doing an even better job of translating cultural differences in ways that still get the point across. And the only reason you might see stuff cut out like blood is because they had to edit it for TV broadcast. But if you get the uncut dub it usually has all of the left out stuff is put back in.

And when I see people putting down dubs its usually because they only saw the earliest dubs, which even I will admit were bad, but have never given the most recent stuff a fair look. Its like they get it in their heads that all Dubs are bad and nothing can change that. Which is kinda sad, cause they don't know what they're missing.

But that is just my own view on things.

dubs can be very good
but in my eyes, for me, most of the time japanese is still better
but yeah, if it takes you ages to read, that pretty much settles your argument :(

You must read incredibly slow if you cant read dubs though.

Or we just want to be entertained by the anime, perhaps while we're doing something else. I know that during busy periods in the S2 shop I was still doing paperwork while I was trying to wind down, and staring at the screen to read the subtitles wasn't always an option. Hence English it was.

Well in my case I can read it if its just a few words without pausing. Its the long winded sentances that give me the most problems for the simple fact that most of the time its only displayed on the screen for a few seconds. Those I have to pause for.

I've got something very similar to dislecsia(SP?). Most of the time when I see words the letters get jumbled up in my head and I have to mentally sort it out. Which is why my reading is slow, and why I also tend to miss spell words from time to time. I usually spend a lot of time rereading my posts before I submit them because of that.

But don't get me wrong. I still enjoy a good book or manga from time to time and I'm always trying to speed up my reading.

But on a side note. When I first saw people using L33T online I was able to read it no problem. At first I thought they had the same problem as me, but latter figured out they were just trying to look cool. Which I found funny since it made them look stupid as far as I was conserned.

I would rather have Japanese with english subs because I love the Japanese language :D Plus the english dubs are such a pain >_<. They always add un needed noises like in Naruto
