That was beautiful, man. I was seriously kind of touched. The original Fragment got this retro feeling, so I like to see it online again. But it is more. For me it is not playing the game that is fascinating me. For me it is its resurrection. Trying to hack it, learning more about computers, meeting other dreamers that think the same way. This my Key of the Twilight. That is why I will see fragment online one day again. Even if I would never play it once. My ID K3nt0 will die once its mission is complete. This shall be the way.

Coma, please try not to simply say something like "hehehe" in your posts. It comes off as spammy.
Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
I was trying to subtly say something else.
Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
I've said this before K3nt0 but seriously... you scare me.
About modifying the game for PVP and all that... you sure are a dreamer... while it would be possible, it's nothing we could make safely co-exist with normal gameplay without some really tough hacks.
And I'm not going to add something I know will ruin the game, especially if stability is the factor to suffer.
About modifying the Area Server, to tell the truth that would be a easier task than manipulating the PS2 game.

Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
So, with that in mind, what do you say about doing it from scratch?
Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
That says "connection was cut" by the way. I know quite a few Japanese-proficient friends.
Also, I am myself... a bit of a dreamer. But lets take this one step at a time, eh? Getting up //fragment without said person owning a PS2 (meaning... me and many others. All I own is a backwards compatible PS3) would be amazing in itself. From there we have to take baby steps to getting it into another real MMO. And that is if CC2 doesn't ram a rod up our asses, and find a way to legally bind us. But, I don't think that we are on THAT radar... yet. Even if they do shut us down, hopefully, we can get enough grip on them to at least convince them to outsource a MMO project to korea (like what was done with Dragonball Online; the copyright holders supervise the actual project, but the koreans do the real coding).

Wow, this is like a tech/programming roleplaying adventure, with all the action and drama one could wish for!
Wish I could help, but I'm just getting out of high school, meaning my experience is infantile compared to any of yours. Best of luck to you though! I had wanted to play Fragment. Just don't get yourselves into major legal trouble.

Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
Hello, I joined this form to post how glad I am that this project has come back to life. I also thought I would post a link to the Area Server program (since I had a heck of a time finding it), so here is the link. I was also wondering if anybody knows where I might be able to find the DNAS patch that was floating around a while ago (apparently made by somebody going by the name of Zefie)? Hopefully we will all be able to play .hack//frägment online soon. Keep up the good work Coldbird.
Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
I can help brute force.
Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
I would LOVE to help you!
I can speak a very small amount of japanese... e.e
So I don't think I'll make a good translator, but I am pretty computer savvy, so I may be able to help with that, though I know nothing of what you're doing.
I am good at troubleshooting though, and I have experience irradiating viruses. 8D
Also I can probably bruteforce.
I have a 2 ghz Intel CoreDuo processor and 3 gigs ram.
If there's anything else you need help with feel free to contact me, if I can't help I wouldn't be surprised if I knew someone who could.

I have an actual retail copy of the Japanese game for PS2.. is there any conceivable way of using Coldbird's english patch on it? Which version is the patch meant to applied to, anyway?

Well...Subaru wrote:I have an actual retail copy of the Japanese game for PS2.. is there any conceivable way of using Coldbird's english patch on it? Which version is the patch meant to applied to, anyway?
You may have to just download a copy, or rip it to your hard-drive, and burn a new copy with it on there.
Of course if you do that you'll have to mod your PS2 or something, unless you want to emulate it on your computer.
In which case I can help you do so.
But I don't think there's a way to put it on your retail copy.
Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
I do have a modded PS2 (several infact.) Does that change things any?Minto wrote:Well...Subaru wrote:I have an actual retail copy of the Japanese game for PS2.. is there any conceivable way of using Coldbird's english patch on it? Which version is the patch meant to applied to, anyway?

Are there any reliable PS2 emulators for the PC that I could use to play my retail copy on my PC, and with the English patch?

Haha, forgive me if I seem to have been pokin' my nose into a lot of random threads lately. OTL
*ahem*
Well, I've read this thread and the .hack// Mad thread. I could barely keep up with any of them at all because I lack...brain...stuff..dyah book-smarts and techno-stuff D:
HOWEVER, I do know this; Coldbird is definitely onto something and is truly amazing; as are the people who're actively supporting him.
I really wish I could help, but all I could do would either to spread the word, (unless we just want this whole thing to stay a small blip on the radar;;; ) and unless you guys need an Artist's assistance, then I'm afraid I'd be pretty useless
(I have all the time in the world seeing as I'm ought of high school, but won't be in college for quite some time)
Well anyway, just wanted to say that I'm yet another person cheering you on in the sidelines, and although I doubt someone who knows their way around 2-D art would be of any help, I'd still be ready and willing to lend a hand whenever needed

Re: .hack fragment - online mode revival (for real)
Wellll, yeah that does, you can either find a copy of fragment online, download it, and then apply the patch to that copy, or you may be able to stick it into your computer and rip a copy of it onto your computer, apply the patch, and then burn a copy to DVD, and play it on you modded PS2 that way.Subaru wrote:I do have a modded PS2 (several infact.) As for the emulator I believe the best PS2 emu is PCSX2, it's just a matter of configuring it best for that game and what-not.
But you can ask the people on the forums where to get the plug-ins needed and what not.

Okay, I just went to that website for the emulator, and none of the download links work. The link to their forums doesn't work either.Minto wrote:Wellll, yeah that does, you can either find a copy of fragment online, download it, and then apply the patch to that copy, or you may be able to stick it into your computer and rip a copy of it onto your computer, apply the patch, and then burn a copy to DVD, and play it on you modded PS2 that way.Subaru wrote:I do have a modded PS2 (several infact.) So where exactly are people finding their PC copies for download?

The site works fine for me, make sure your click on the right download for your system. If you use Windows XP/Vista/7, all you need is PCSX2 0.9.6 Installer, the download button is on the grey bar that says DOWNLOAD [ 4MB ]. Forum work's fine too, you just need to read the rules on the forum link carefully.Subaru wrote:Okay, I just went to that website for the emulator, and none of the download links work. PC copies for download, you must understand we do not allow this type of discussion or exchange here on dothackers.net as per our rules in Message Board Rules. Anyone caught exchanging links or repeatedly requesting for links or how to obtain licensed copies of any game or any licensed digital media will be dealt with.

I was rather excited when I saw this and wanted to help so I guess neglected to read the rules.
