The big issue is Keanu Reeves. That's really it. With Sunrise running QC on the script and Cowboy Bebop being what it is, all things aside it should get a good adaptation. As you say, no need to copy the anime, the major thing is keeping the characters what made them who they are.

WHICH is where Keanu Reeves is an issue, given the stark contrast between his usual(or indeed only) way of performing and Spike's attitude. KR usually plays the stoic, quiet (boring, emotionless) lead, while Spike is, despite his situation being the classic set up for that kind of character, cocky, life loving and full of character and rife withe emotions, as well as VERY sarcastic.

If KR does manage to pull this off, then it'll probably redefine him as an actor in the eyes of the public.

Also, I vote my corgi to play Ein. He's a Pembroke, very obedient, loves his food and all he needs is a white dot on his forehead and he'd look just like Ein.

Seriously, I don't if they cut Ed I WANT EIN.

Name one thing that he had emotions in other than Bill & Ted.

Well played on the siting Keanu emotion.

Maybe they will have him get really blazed, in hopes he can dish out wit and satire. Sadly, I don't think it's possible.

Actually, you just pointed out what they need to do to appease the F-word.

Yes, the Fan-boys.(or girls, if you have boobs)

They tap into his style when he was in bill and teds blah blah blah movies and he might just pull it off.

Might also be a chance for keanu reaves to break out of the stereotype he's in, namely he's a lifeless actor.

Also-I want to know who they have in mind for other characters. Faye(especially) jet ed ein(THE DOG FROM FRASIER!). I want to know who they're gonna have for it.

It just kinda sad though because when he was doing those movies his emotions on a ten scale were a 3, and now they're a .5!

As long as he accepts the fact that his acting without emotions is terrible! But you know these pompous Hollywood types.

I don't think they have any picked other than Keanu. But, as I've said before, the only person I could ever pick for Faye is Selma Blair, and she still doesn't quite have the right feel for the role.
