"Yeah, I'm his uncle. And yeah, I got teleported over to him when he was in a tight spot the other day. Really, you should ask him about what he said, but I will say that he did mention how self-confident and energetic you were."

Maerlyn had been about wing off when Jenkins had called to her and waved her over. She hesitated before closing her wings and walking over to him, her arms crossed. It was subtle, like the only difference between her now and her before being that she seemed.... duller, like her colors were less vibrant. "Yes, dear... you can say that. But then...." she sighed, turning away from him to look into the distance. "Maybe I was wrong... in thinking that Human and Elves would understand me better then the other Harpies did...? Say, you must think it too, huh? That my actions are unfitting of a Phoenix...?" she asked suddenly.

Jenkins crossed his arms and shrugged, "Dunno. I've only seen one phoenix and I'm not even sure if you could call that meeting him. Besides not all farmers, mercenaries, humans, or whatever else you might classify me as are like me. And I found out the day we met that there is an evil doctor too. So no, I'm not going to measure your behavior against the perceived yard stick of a phoenix. Especially since you aren't one."
---Edit---
Jenkins positioned himself in the nook between Maerlyn's wings and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, a slight violet glow coming from his eyes. "I will say that you were a little rough with Sylvia though. She was in an emotionally unstable place, plus she hasn't gotten to know you yet, and the ring's presence probably didn't help matters either."

Maerlyn smiled a bit at his words. He was right, of course, but then it wasn't Zorlo's exact words that had cut Maerlyn, but rather the basis of the phrase itself that had hurt the Harpy. She'd opened her mouth to speak when Jenkins hugged her from behind. He could feel her jump a bit in startlement before she slowly relaxed, listening to his continued explanations. Rough... Was she all that rough...? She hadn't thought so, but then, she'd seen an unstable Harpy before that was like that if you said or did something wrong. But for now, that was something to figure out later. "I see...." She chuckled a moment. "So this is what 'having a friend' is like...? It's not bad. Not bad at all...."

The woman blushed and nodded. In earnest, it was the first compliment she'd gotten about herself that had nothing to do with her talents of as a cleric. "Well, that's good to hear. I shall talk to him soon, but for now, can I have a cup of that tea, it smells divine."

"I know you two are having a seriously important discussion, but I wanted to say I'm sorry for offending you, Miss Maerlyn. I didn't mean to offend you. I was just groggy and I still felt you took a bit like you handled poor Sylvia wrong. She's... very, very repressed. She's been sheltered from all of society to learn and master her divine magic. But... thank you for facing her," he told her, smiling as he stepped back. "I'm gonna go check on Sylvia. Have fun you two," Zorlo said as he started to move where SHanks and Sylvia were.

"Of course." Shanks poured her a cup, "Looks like my nephew is coming over." He finished his tea and set the empty cup down for Z. "I'll leave you two alone. Enjoy the tea." Shanks left to go do whatever it was Shanks did.

"Yes and no." Jenkins kissed Maerlyn on the neck. "I don't kiss anyone I just want as a friend, if they're not injured." Committed now. Just hope the fruit isn't underripe.

Zorlo nodded as his Uncle as he sat down and took the cup and began to pour himself a cup of tea. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to make you so mad before... but you had to know. THe reason I've been able to constantly escape is because Erastil would never support such a union, even if it is for the betterment of society. If we both suffer because of it... what is the point?"

Sylvia nodded. "I guess I understand... but I always believed that the Grand Cleric and the Oracles were guiding me in the right direction. How could I... not support them?" she asked, quivering still.

Zorlo rested his hand on her shoulder as he smiled at her. "It isn't that I don't want to marry you or anything like that, it's just I don't want us to be simply married in title only. If I'm to marry someone, it must be someone I love and..." Zorlo's eye twitched. He shook his head and sighed. "Sorry about that... I still haven't fully recovered from my bleeding out," the Paladin said.

Sylvia chuckled as she stood up and nodded excitedly. "Of course, of course! Here, I'm gonna go do what I can for the others and apologize to that slattern!" Sylvia said, bursting with happiness and energy as she rushed towards the deck. She wanted a bit of the fresh air.

Zorlo held his hand up to say something, but got stopped. "Well, uh... sucks to be Jenkins in about... three... two... one..."

The significance of that statement wasn't lost on Maerlyn. Her wanted something more. Something that Harpies didn't do in the least and that she herself only heard about in passing. "Is that so...?" She took a breath and immediately sighed., not sure of what to say in reply to this. "So... You want to be the Main Male in my life then, I take it? But, just long will you be around with me... I wonder...?" she mused, taking his statement from a Harpy view point. Namely, a temporary mating pair. After all, that was the closest thing to a relationship Harpies got.

"I would probably have said boyfriend not main male, but yes. Optimistically, I'll live until week's end. Hopefully, we'll both be around long after Drelliel is buried once more though." He let her go, and pulled away to better study her reactions. It felt like something was off, but he couldn't be certain. "I should get back to it." He said hesitantly before leaving.

"I couldn't help but overhear." Said Shanks from nearby, pointing to his ears. "I think he isn't putting as much thought into this as he should, since he returned from the castle his emotions have been getting the better if him, and I fear you don't quite grasp them. Which could send him down a very dangerous road when he realizes it. Just consider this, Jenkins comes from a farming family. His eldest brother is probably twice his age and he probably has at least one sibling younger than himself and his parents, who probably spent more than a year courting one another beforehand, have been together the entire time. In short, make sure he knows where you see the relationship going."

"To no fault of her own, Uncle, I think it's hard for her too. After all, Elves, and humans and dwarves tend to marry for at least some length of time, if not life. However... I may be mistaking Harpy's for any other number of races with similar stories, whether true or false, but I've heard they don't have relationships for much longer than conception, yes?" Zorlo asked as he shrugged, metallic plates clinking together as he shifted his arm.

Sylvia rested a hand on Jenkins' shoulder, tear stained eyes looking at him. Zorlo and she had listened to what had been transpiring between the harpy and the farmer and she couldn't have helped but be moved. "So beautiful!" she said, crying into Jenkins' shoulder. "You're truly a brave and good hearted man. Remain here by her side and change her for the better! Such a touching story!" the woman said, unable to control her emotions.

Jenkins eyes had returned to their normal green coloration but were still ovals by the time Sylvia caught up to him. "Uh thanks, Sylvia, I think. Although I'm not really sure what it is you're talking about; I'm glad to see that you're happy again." He smiled and gave the cleric a hug.

Though Maerlyn gave a quick greeting to the battered Rain, her attention was quickly pulled back to Shanks and Zorlo's words. "So then... If I'm getting what I think you're trying to tell me... me and Jenkins aren't on the same page with all this then," she replied thinking about it. It did kinda seem like Jenkins was unsure about something and thinking about it, she really didn't want to end up on the wrong end of whatever the hell he did to that Mastiff either. "Maybe it was for the best if I asked him a few questions..." she said thoughtfully to herself as she turned and walked off. Do Human and such really pair all that differently...? Those guys before seemed eager regardless of other commitments. What am I missing..?

Time Roulette GO! ((Mostly because I feel we've been stationary for too long.))
It is the following evening, the ships are fast on their way back to Seat with an unseasonably strong and chill wind at their backs. All of the sailors who don't have to be up on deck as many as possible have huddled close to the cooking fire. Maerlyn is on watch in the crow's nest, since she's used to the cold and sees better at night than anyone else, and Jenkins, who somehow managed to avoid running into her since his profession is climbing the ropes to join her.

"Hey, I brought some warmed rum." He said after hopping into the nest. Jenkins reached into his bag, pulled out a bottle, and set it between them; the bag's special properties had kept it just as warm as when he had put it in there earlier that day. His eyes gave off an azure glow as he gazed up at the stars. "Connor used to take his daughter, Violet, and I stargazing when we were little. He'd tell us stories about the different constellations." He turned the gaze on the harpy, "Your siblings ever do that with you?"

Maerlyn chuckled. "No, I can't say that we have. Mother's been dead for sometime and my 'sister' never really liked me all that much," she replied as she looked up at the stars, her wings closed around her for added warmth. In the cool darkness, it was almost easy to see the ember-like heat her new plumage radiated now after her Phoenix Blessing. No wonder she took the post so readily without the usual sigh of complaint. She looked back at him, her thoughts trailing back to her questions of non-Harpy mate pairs. Was it really all that different...? "Hey, Jenkins... Lately some information I've had has come into question. Would you mind helping me set it all straight?" she asked.

He wasn't sure what to say to her laugh and the comment that followed, but fortunately he didn't have to come up with something. "Yeah, of course. Not sure how much help a farm boy like me will be, but I'm happy to try." Jenkins took a sip of the rum and smiled at her, the blue glow of his eyes started to turn into a violet one.

((Sorry for taking so long. My attention is getting cycled.))

She smiled, meeting his violet gaze. Violet again... So... Lust, maybe...? she thought to her before looking at the stars. "I'm sure it's something you'll be able to help with, Jenkins. It's..." she paused, momentarily unsure as to how to ask it to make sure that he'd understand. After a moment, she continued with a chuckle. "I guess the easiest way to say it is, Exactly how long do Humans and stay together for?" she asked, turning toward him. "I thought it was the same as Harpy-kind, but it was raised to me that the duration wasn't the same. So, what is it?"

The purple glow slowly faded and Jenkins sounded deflated. "Oh, I guess that is kind of relevant to us. Uh, well that depends on the humans. Um, those that are purely about... well uh. Some last only a few days, if that. But others last lifetimes, practically every relationship in my family that has progressed to a certain point are lifelong commitments. That's kind of what I'm looking for. I mean I'm not asking you to marry me right now, but I guess that is the ultimate goal." His eyes start to glow violet again. "I mean, ma and pa, Connor and Meg, James and Carl, they're all just so happy just being near their other half. I could see that plain as day even before, this." Jenkins waved a hand in front of his face to indicate his eyes. "I want that." He sighed and gave the harpy a dimming sidelong glance. "Does that help?"

Maerlyn nodded after a moment. "Yes, that does help me," she replied, taking a drink before suddenly hugging him. Her feathers were really warm now, like a heated blanket. "And thank you. Regardless of species and misunderstandings, thank you for choosing me..." she whispered before kissing his neck. "For now, I guess we'll see how things go. But I Do have two questions. Do you mine if I do anyone else and what do you mean by 'Marry' you?"

Not sure how much choosing I actually did here. The violet glow returned when Maerlyn had kissed him, his eyes flashed red for a split second, "If we're going to be in a relationship, neither of us can see anybody else." He kissed her on the neck and placed a hand over hers as his eyes smoldered violet. "Marry, as in marriage. Y'know a wedding, an officiate, often times a cleric, from whatever religion the husband and wife to be follow performs a ceremony consecrating their wedding vows usually including to have and to hold, sickness, health, etc. till death do you part. You really don't know what I'm talking about?" Jenkins took a sip. "Most every other girl dreams of their future wedding. I'm sure Sylvia could tell you more than you ever wanted to know about the whole thing. She's probably got a grand vision of what her and Zorlo's wedding is going to be that she would love to share with another woman." He turned his gaze to the stars and his eyes fell on a constellation whose story involved a harpy luring men to their deaths and the glow changed to a dim blue one. Maerlyn felt a warm hopeful sensation radiating from the ring on the hand Jenkins had placed over hers as he asked, "Are the stories about harpies true? They sleep with a guy and then kill him when they get bored?"
