Fragments of a Distant Star (Darker than Black rp)

Post by Helbaworshipper »

Human potential to become contractors has increased exponentially with a strange star. Appearing only to those chosen to see it, the powers received are abnormal, making them slaves to a new contract. One that takes away all freedom by making them dolls. Yet they do not complain, keeping their own personalities while on the beck and call of some strange star.

To make matters worse, there are many beings capable of enslaving these contractors, and more strange stars are appearing. With a take over quite possible, who will stop the beings behind this phenomenon?

Rules:

1. No God Modding
2. You may use a character from the first season, but not the second season. This will start from the end of the first season.
3. There will be a 'time' system, telling what time of day it is. Simply morning, afternoon, and night will be used whenever there will be a change.

Character Sheet:

Name:
Nickname (Optional):
Age:
Gender:
Appearance: (Picture or Description)
Role: (Human, Fragment Contractor, Contractor)
Power: (If you are going to be a fragment contractor, make sure that you do not have a price to pay for your contract. Being a doll/puppet is the price of the contract.)
Price/renumeration: (Only if you're a contractor, not necessary if you're human or a fragment contractor.)
Bio: (Make sure to point out how they saw the star if they are a fragment contractor, or when they became a contractor if they are normal. Note that even fragment contractors have personality, they can lose it at any time when using their abilities though.)

(I will post my profile after one or two people have joined.)

What's the difference between a fragment contractor and normal contractor? The fragment contractor retains some of their emotions?

Fragment contractors have no control of their power. The being itself controls when that power comes out, and they themselves have to ask the being in question for power. When their power is in use they have no emotions, but otherwise are normal.

Given that condition, you could control the being yourself. If you want to do that, pm me and we'll talk more about it.

Well, Hei does eat an awful lot that's kind of like an obeisance and he primarily just uses his powers to taser people so you could just put he generates electricity instead of the complicated thing. And uh spoilers to follow if you haven't watched the full first season, there might be one or two of you to which I have to ask why haven't you watched the whole thing yet? Go on go find it and watch it, it'll be worth the investment.
Yeah, "Hei's" powers stem from his sister who more or less is part of him, if memory serves correctly. So the cost was fully payed off when her body died. That's how it is with Mao and the other guy who lost his body.

And there really aren't that many characters from the first season left, they were almost all killed except the detective, Hei, Yin, July, and Storm I can't remember what they actually called her, but it's accurate enough. And they killed off Storm at the start of the second season. And somehow Mao's back, I'm really not clear on how that's possible. Didn't they plant a virus that destroyed his brain or something? I remember him trying to hack a satellite and then going meow and saying something about if you meet a black cat feed it before he ran off.

The Williams Family
Father: George
Mother: Claire
Eldest Son: Cale
Younger Son: Richard "Little Rich"
Daughter: Alice
Place of Residence: 205 Acorn Lane, Aledo, TX
2 story house on a ranch out in the middle of nowhere.

CIA
Cale's Handler: Walter
http://cheshireplaynwthfire.deviantart. ... -101735020
Overseer: General Bisnette
Contractor Expert: Doctor Schroedinger
http://shin-wolf.deviantart.com/art/Taishi-47174648
Teleporter: Jane, Obeisance: Must kiss someone.
Long red hair, usually wears blue jeans and a hoodie.

Name: Cale Williams
Nickname: Desperado
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance: Image
Role: Human
Bio: Cale comes from a long line of Texas rangers and has inherited every bit of skill his ancestors had with his pair of colts and is just as tough as any of them belying his slight build. He became a contractor at the age of 15 and had the ability to distort space around himself. However, he lost his contractor powers and most of his memories of his time as one at the climax of the Heaven's Gate event five years ago. The CIA still uses him though as he can still stand against most contractors on even footing by compensating with a quick wit and gadgets. One of which is a wire which he can shoot out from either sleeve, similar to Hei.

Name: Alice Williams
Nickname: None as of yet
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance: Image
Role: Fragment Contractor
Bio: Alice is Cale's little sister. She's presently participating in an exchange program and is taking classes in Tokyo, Japan. She's the one person in Cale's family that he's actually made an effort to see. Usually on or around her birthday when his work allowed, even when he was a contractor. She's a fiery and bright girl always the first in line to do something crazy. And she has all of the Williams family gifts too abnormally sturdy, excellent with guns(although she doesn't like them too much), and the long blue hair. Unlike her brothers who are quite content to be in the line of serving the public with their firearms she wishes to become a doctor.

One day she saw one of her friends being attacked by a gang. Without thinking Alice jumped into the fray. She almost became a victim as well when a figure appeared before her and offered her a chance to win. She made the deal and as darkness surrounded them Alice shoryukened the gang leader and proceeded to handle the others in similar fashion. The last one ran out of the alley and into the street where he was killed by a car. Cale visited her the week after and hunted down the survivors. Before the last of them croaked he found out about what his sister had done. She couldn't remember the event at all except that she was fighting them and managed to win.

Power: She can cover a warehouse sized area with darkness that only she can see through.
Controlling Being: Anahita(see Helbaworshiper's post)

We're ready to start the story. If anyone else wishes to join, either post the character or pm me.

Day 1: Morning (Week before December)

"Selling diamonds again this year?" A red haired woman walked towards the large store sat. The layout of rare gems sat on the window. "It isn't getting boring?"

"Of course not. They are priceless gems." A male chuckled, considerably older. "You're not a romantic Emi." Her eyes rolled, hitting the old man on the back of the head.

"It's just a jewel dad."

---

"Ow... That was quite a bit of fun." A man gently stroked his aching head. He could feel the small bump without any effort. "With how popular that group is, I'm lucky I didn't get a leg broken." On the table beside him, he saw a number. "And that's the number of a woman who never had her memory erased... I wonder how it's connected."

((Where are we starting and/or supposed to be ending up?))
Cale exhaled into his hands and let the warmth of his breath heat his hands and nose. He then clasped his hands over his ears warming the metal earrings he wore, if only for a short time. One of the things he didn't care for about the winter season. But he supposed he could only blame himself for this small discomfort. Cale handed the man a ten and told him to keep the change.

He took several steps and sat on a nearby bench before biting into his hotdog. It wasn't really what most people would consider a treat, but his family had always celebrated special occasions with cookouts. He let out a sigh remembering their last real family get together. About ten years ago, shortly before he had become a contractor and was subsequently taken by the CIA for training and use. If it hadn't been for his family's stubbornness and connections they never even would have found out what had happened to him. But unfortunately, they had, and now they didn't want anything to do with him. His mother still made the obligatory attempts to contact him on his birthday and major holidays, but having never entered into the Texas Rangers at all, well his grandfather viewed him as a failure, and his father had very nearly pulled a gun to let Cale know just how welcome he was back home in Aledo...still he had some time before his next assignment, if only a few hours. He was never sure when they would call on him next, it could be anywhere from minutes to days since his plane landed back on U.S. soil.

"Might as well, wonder if dad will make me dance." Cale sucked in a chilly breath and drove down to his parent's ranch to find his father stringing up lights. The ladder looked as though it was from his grandfather's time and indeed it was, it even had a couple of bullets lodged in it. "Lucky" the man had always called it, well no matter how much it swayed it had remained upright, so he guessed that was lucky. Cale sucked in another chilly breath before he dared press the pedal again.

((The first day is to just introduce the characters. At night they will meet under a specific circumstance in a specific location in the city (AKA where a character will be attacked.) If someone is not within that area there will just be another attack in their area.))

"Yukimura." He had only just gotten into the office when he heard the voice. Just great, his boss was calling him over. "I told you to get the story done a week ago. Are you trying to test my patience?"

"No sir." The heated gaze glared at his back. "I was looking up everything I could about that incident with the contractors. Especially what happened during the Saturn Ring incident. Pandora is a trap that won't open up. There is a lead, so give me just a few more days."

"You're pushing it." The older man glared, his black eyes a smoldering fire. "Get going on it as soon as possible, three more days or you're fired."

---

"Dad, do things like this usually have to happen to you?" Emi glared towards the man who had attempted to try and pay with a stolen credit card. The card wouldn't activate at all, making her tempted to just tell him to give up while he had the chance. "Honestly."

"Really, it is my card."

"It was canceled just today."

The car was a rental and Cale had grown his hair out since his father had seen him last so the man simply got off the ladder and walked over to a pitcher of lemonade, next to his shotgun, and waited for the visitor to stop and exit the vehicle. He very nearly had a heart attack at the sight of Cale. The old ranger coughed as he tried to get the lemonade out of his lungs and his hands were on the shotgun before the glass had hit the ground. "Easy dad, it's really me. I'm not here to cause you any trouble, I was just in the area and thought I'd stop by." "Out." Came the gruff order, yet Cale pressed on taking slow measured steps with his hands far from the guns at his sides. "I sed get out." "And I sed I weren't here to cause trouble." "George what the blazes is going on out here. Sweet mother of Jesus. Cale, that you?" Cale's mother had stepped outside carrying a dish filled with what appeared to be cherry cobbler. Somehow the woman had maintained her hold on the dish. "Yeah ma, it's me."

"George, lay off 'im. It's been o'er a decade since 'e was 'ere last. Let's just go inside and have some cobbler. I just got it out of the oven. You do like my cobbler, dontcha Cale baby?" "Yes ma'am, I cannot remember the last time I had your cobbler. But I do remember how delicious it was and I've dreamt of it a few times." "Dreamt?" Came his father's slightly bewildered voice, "I thought they said you contractors couldn' dream?" "Yessir, contractors can't dream, but I ain't a contractor no more." "Any more." Piped in his mother, to which Cale nodded appreciatively. "Come on George, he's just missed us, let's go inside. He can put the lights up for you later. Little Rich will be getting off later tonight, will you be joining us for dinner?" "Yes ma'am." Came Cale's reply and the tension left his arms as his dad lowered the shotgun.

"So, if you aren' a contractor anymore, can ya join the family business soon?" "George, he's finally home and that's the only thing you can say?" "Don't worry ma, I knew this would come up sooner or later. And sorry dad, but the people I work for don't want to let me go just yet. When they finally do I will though, if the rangers will have me." George took a long sip of milk before he finally nodded approval. "Still can't say who you work for either, eh?" "Afraid not, I would if I could, believe me. But they're very cloak and dagger." "So what, you're like that James Bond fellow your mother likes?" "Something like that." "Still know how to shoot? You've still got the family heirlooms on you, so I imagine you do, but care to have a contest?" With a nod the two men left the table and set up several empty beer cans at various ranges. Cale set a bottlecap on the farthest one. "Same rules as usual?" "Same as usual." Each had a scopeless breech loading rifle and began firing quick as they could load. Cale barely took out the bottlecap as his father loaded a round to take his own shot.

"Well, I'll be. Good thing the winner puts up the lights." George patted Cale on the back and went to sit on his porch chair as Cale climbed the rickety ladder to string up the lights.

Day 1 : Afternoon (Establish where you are going to be for the evening. If you have any ideas you would like to use, pm me.)

"Excuse me." Standing in front of a rack of clothes, Emi seemed a bit confused to see a stranger talking to her. "Do you happen to know anything about the survey starting this afternoon?"

"Survey?" She looked a bit blank, unsure of what this person really wanted.

"The police are searching for contractors supposedly. A friend of mine saw a reporter claiming to be doing a survey. By the time I went to see him, he was gone. No one was taking even a shopping preference survey today." The man smiled. "Just letting you know before I get yelled at again." He walked off without another word, leaving Emi confused. She quickly exited the store.

He had just finished the last of the lights when Cale's phone began ringing. "Yes?" "What is your location, Desperado?" "205 Acorn Lane, Aledo, TX." "Is there anthing significant about the road? Are there vehicles coming?" "It's made of dirt and there are some rocks strewn about it, small, and no vehicles are coming." The phone cut out as a woman with long red hair and wearing blue jeans and a white hoodie appeared on the road. She looked around, located Cale and began walking towards him. Cale snapped his phone shut and got off the ladder as his father grabbed his shotgun. "Don't worry dad, she's here to pick me up. Catch." Cale tossed a set of keys. "Tell Ma I'm sorry that I couldn't stay longer." "Cale, don't come back unless you have to." The comment stopped the young man in his tracks. "You're mother might miss you, but if not fer her I'd of shot you soon as I saw ya." Cale nodded and continued walking towards the woman. When he got close to her she grabbed his shoulders, teleported them both back to DC and then she kissed him. "Not a terrible obeisance, if I do say so myself." She smiled at Cale's comment, kneed him in the gut, and then left the barren room, leaving the door open. "Cale!" Came a voice from down the hall. "Get in here." He smiled in spite of his pain and followed the beckoning voice to a board room.

"Enjoy your morning, Cale?" Asked a woman in a lab coat. "Thought I was in more danger then than when I took on that fire contractor." "Quiet, now then Dr. Schroedinger, you were saying?" The general's gruff voice returned everyone's attention to the screen. It showed a man clad in black and wearing a mask. "Yes, of course. This is a picture of a contractor known as Hei, code named BK-201 or The Black Reaper. He was recently involved in an incident at a facility at Hell's Gate in Tokyo. Up until this point it was thought that his powers were simply to cause an electric shock. However he seems able to affect things on an atomic level by causing electrons to jump. He's been involved with many events at Tokyo in recent history. His primary weapon is a knife on a metal wire, similar to that device you use Cale. He uses it to great effect and in a manner very similar to yourself as well.

Now this is a picture of him without his mask. He was posing as a transfer student from China by the name of Lee. Now BK201 also worked with this doll, Yin, another contractor Mao, who can jump from the bodies of various animals most often this black cat, and a former police officer, Huang. Huang we believe is dead. Mao does not appear to be with BK201 and Yin at this time either, he may be dead. And there's something else you should be aware of Cale, he was working with the time manipulating contractor, Amber. I believe you worked with her once as well." "This is all very fascinating, Dr., but I think you've forgotten something. What is BK201's obeisance?" "Unknown, it is believed that he may in fact not have one, but this is unconfirmed." "So y'all want me to find this Black Reaper and take him down, where do I begin?" "Not quite, Desperado, we want you to bring him to us. He used to work for the syndicate but it seems they've abandoned him, or he's left them. We want you to turn him to us. You are qualified to offer him and his doll asylum in the United States as well as a salary comparable to your own, if he'll work for us." "And if he doesn't?" "Contact us and we'll tell you." Cale nodded. "So, where am I being whisked off to now?" "Tokyo, Japan. There's a reporter there, Katsu Yukimura, he's an information broker. If he doesn't know where BK201 is then you're on your own, but don't contact us again until after you've made contact with BK201." "Understood."

"There's a car waiting for you outside, it'll take you to the airport." "Air-port?" "Don't worry, you'll be able to have your guns. You'll meet with another agent once you're beyond security who will return them to you, just don't put them on until you've landed in Tokyo." "So not only am I not getting teleported, I'm taking a public plane?" "We want you to be as under the radar as possible, just in case." "It's first class though, right? Right?" "Sorry Cale, coach. Get there early." "Thanks for the advice Dr.."

Day 1: Evening ( I will begin each individual attack after you have established where you are. )

Sitting down against a park bench, Emi's voice seemed soft. In front of her stood a figure that no one else could see. It was speaking in what seemed to be a gentle voice from the smile on her face. Slowly Emi's eyes turned to that of a contractors, her emotions and personality fading away slowly. "Hai, Anahita-sama." She stood up, beginning to walk out of the park.

"Another failed lead, but this is... A new lead." Katsu adjusted his glasses once again. "If the CIA plans to come here then we've got another big story."

He didn't mind having a girl teleport him around, that was fine since he couldn't do it himself. But being driven around by one was a completely different matter, especially since it was a chattering little rookie. Supposedly she would be getting his gear through security too, but she wasn't instilling much confidence. She had gotten lost three times already and this was with a GPS, though it seemed to be malfunctioning so he had to give her that. But if she got them lost once more he was going to get out and get a map, or make her let him drive. Either way his patience was wearing thin. "Ok, girly, I understand. Your personal life sucks. Anyways, you're just an office worker, I'm a field agent. I don't get to have a personal life. And any time I try to make one it ends up blowing up in my face, sometimes literally." He turned to look out the window and grumbled, "and other times it gets me a knee to the gut." The girl shut up for a good minute before exploding into more jabbering as she took what was likely to be another wrong turn. What did I do to deserve this?

The dead end lead to what looked to be a little shack. The small metal sign read: Dr. Micheal Shwartz, Dentist. The lights were off currently, making it all the more surprising when the wheels were all sliced at once. Standing just a short distance away stood a man in blue scrubs, an assortment of dental tools seeming to origin right from his body.

The sudden jarring from the car and the girl's scream got Cale's attention, "Becky, what the H- Ah, I see. Somebody doesn't want me getting to Tokyo. Becky, I'll call you after I deal with this. But when the shooting starts I want you to start running, ok?" He looked at the girl and she was clearly in shock. "Well, looks like this is going to be more difficult than I thought, no explosives then." Cale checked his wrists and stepped out of the car, looked at the tires and then the "dentist". "Capable of creating things out of thin air looks like it's just dentist equipment though."

He placed his hand on his gun and pushed down as he began firing. The dentist jumped out of the way of the shots and Cale threw out the dagger-wire at the roof and pulled himself out of the way just as the ground he had been standing on got filled with dentist drills and a hook caught on his jeans. Cale cut the wire and kicked off the side of the alleyway as the dentist used the hook to close in on Cale. He ended up leaping over the dentist and shooting down all of the tools that tried to lash out at him. He kicked out a couple of speed loaders and flipped out the empties. He tossed one gun into the air and threw several small round balls in the dentist's direction, the man seemed to leap into the air and cling to the wall like a spider. The speed loaders landed perfectly into his guns and he fired at his assailant who jumped to the opposite wall and pounced down on Cale, knocking the gun from his hand. "Yer heavy as a horse, ain't ya?" Several of the drills came to bear on Cale's face to which he responded with a right hook to the dentist's, and putting his spurs into man's achilles tendons, forcing him to jump off or risk permanent disability. He landed on the wall above Cale again just as Cale's second gun landed in his hand. The shots missed, but it got him to jump back to the other side and attempt to take cover behind the car. Cale closed his eyes and hit a button on the Colt activating the flashbombs he had tossed earlier. He quickly leaped to his feat and shot the man's arms and legs in several places.

He walked over and stepped on the man's chest pointing the muzzle at the man's head. "Alright, give up now and I won't kill you. Now I know what your thinking, did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I kind of lost track myself. But seeing as I do have it pointed at your head, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"
