Shattered Steel

STORY: Earth, 2103. Humans have discovered a cache of lost technology hidden beneath their very feet. For twenty years scientists from around the world have been studying this technology, deciphering the alien text in the memory banks of the unearthed facility, dubbed "The Shrodinger Complex". The complex itself is massive. Just three thousand feet shy of the surface is where it starts. From there it goes slightly over twelve miles down in to the planet. Despite this fact some of the deepest levels simulate the surface enviroment flawlessly. Including but not limited to trees swaying in the breeze. Fish swimming in artifical streams. And even the rising and setting of the sun. The facility stretches out over two hundred miles in all diections from a central location. Even after twenty years only about twenty-five percent of the complex has been explored and reactivated. The true purpose for this facility has yet to be discovered.

Recently some disturbing news has been circulating. Teams sent in to some of the unexplored areas have yet to return. Any attempts to reach them have been met with static. In fact many areas in the complex appear to be dead areas where no human made communication devices work. Up to now it was simply assumed to be interference caused by some of the machinery or the material the structure was made of. The reality of the matter though is extremely grave.

The sounds of an intense battle preceed a static filled communiqe from a recovery team in an unexplored region, "COM.... IN COMMAN..... HAVE ENCOUNT....EAVY RESI...... NEED SUPPORT ...... SEND HEl---!" the voice stops after a loud explosion but sound continues to be transmitted. Sounds of gunfire, explosions, of dying men and women echo across the comm channel, as well as the sound of scrapping and grinding metal.

EDIT: PM NO LONGER NEEDED FOR APPLICATION.

There will be squads formed as the RP gains people. The RP will start once we have the first squad filled or I divide people up based on requests. Squad members will decide over who gets what position. In the event we do not get at least ten people after a certain point I will resize squads based on how many players there are.

Squad Layout- ((SUBJECT TO CHANGE))
Captain (Squad Leader)
1st lieutenant (2nd in command)
Sergeant (logistics)
Corporal (Recon)
Private (support)

Rules: No God-modding. You can have a tough machine but no matter what no one walks away from a fight without at least one bullet hole or one sword scar ETC... No killing off other players without permission. A duel/fight is allowed but no killing off. At certain points I will pick random people for upgrades to their mechs. The upgrades and their function(s) will remain a mystery until I hand them out. Chassis type must match picture/description as closely as possible. In the begining of the story energy weapons are still experimental. Don't go overboard. The moment I THINK someone uses a racist or sexist comment with intent to insult outside of the story your GONE. Common sense is the name of the game.

Chassis types have special rules.
Ultra Light- Limited to melee weapons
Light- Limited to small arms (EX: SMG) and melee. Exception to this rule is a Sniper Rifle.
Mid- Can not use obviously oversized gear
Heavy- Can use large weapons. Slower than lighter classes.
Ultra heavy- Only uses extremely large weapons or large caliber sniper rifles. Slowest mech chassis. Heaviest armor.

*NOTE: If your mech is quad (or more) legged it's chassis type is then considered one size bigger. Ultra Heavy is exempt from this rule.

Pilot Bio: Bruce is one of the few trained in new technology produced from understanding the technology of the Shrodinger complex. One such technology is the creation and manufacture of pilot controlled mechanized assault units, or MAUs. Bruce was the first test pilot for the MAU units and still prefers to use the prototype model he used in the first test runs. Bruce has an extremely deep sense of honor and cares for the lives of anyone in his command. If a mission sounds too outrageous he will take it but not do it. He was almost court-martialed for one such act. His team had been ordered to raze an entire village to the ground in eastern africa. That very same village had helped hide his team from passing patrols and fed them for two months while on another assignment. As it turned out Bruce made the right call. The military had been fed false information in the hopes of starting a revolution in that country. Bruce was commendated on seeing through an "obvious" lie and leading his troops to deal with the real threat, the guerillas who had giving the false info the start their coup. Ever since being sent on offical assignment to the Shrodinger complex Bruce has had the habit of playing music in his mech when on drills. As much as the higher ups complain he still does it claiming that it helps him concentrate. At least his squad members have yet to complain anyway.

Mech Bio: Despite being the oldest MAU it is still one of the strongest in use. There are subsystems that appear redundant but when switched off the unit powers down or refuses to move. Or on rare occasions moves on it's own as if to object. The engineering team that put it together followed decrypted instructions from one of the terminals in the complex so truthfully even they don't know what all it can do. Since the prototype seemed unstable it's core systems design has since been remodeled for all other MAUs. Despite many requests to remodel the Shadow's systems to make it no longer malfuntion Bruce has turned them down every time, each time stating "If it wasn't supposed to be there then why was it in the original plans?"

Thanks for accepting my character Dark Blade.

Name: Jack Anderson
Rank: Corporal (Recon)
Pilot Handle: Panther
Mech Picture: http://meganerid.deviantart.com/art/Unit-41-77547962
Mech name: Shade
Mech chassis: Light
Mech class/Role: Close Range/Sniper
Equipped weapons: Silenced SMG/Sniper Rifle (He also carries a P90 and a Glock with him inside the mech, occasionally he supplements this with other things if he feels he might be out of his mech more.)

Pilot Bio:It was Jack's first mission as part of this special operations team, his last two had met unfavorable ends. They were sent in to investigate a portion of the complex early on. Something went wrong while they were in there, and nobody knows what. Its been almost twenty years and he finally resurfaces operating the mau now classified as Shade. He reportedly got into a short skirmish with a squad of mau pilots green out of basic, and nearly killed one of them before Bruce showed up. Although unarmed Jack was able to match Bruce in hand to hand. At least until he awoke and gained control of his body once more.

The last thing he remembered, before waking up with Bruce's blades at his throat, was an explosion and intense pain shooting up from his legs and a warm sticky sensation from blood covering his chest. Although now in his late 40s he appears no older than he did when he died in the complex. The doctors that have examined him have said that his body was probably kept in stasis while nanomachines worked to repair it, but now that he's alive again those same nanomachines are slowly turning him into a machine entirely. They're not sure what will happen when the tiny machines reach his brain.

Parts of him are already mechanical, like his spinal column and legs. This has given him some benefits such as when he is piloting Shade he can interface with it directly, giving him a faster reaction time when compared to other mau pilots making him lethal at close range even if he's otherwise unarmed. And although he's excellent with his mau he still prefers having his boots on the ground, feeling that a mau is too loud and clunky, despite being almost a ghost while operating Shade.

Because of his "condition" the military will not allow him to see the surviving members of his family or really go anywhere off the base. Thus his leave continues to stack up, much like his money since they've decided to compensate him for his time spent in the complex. If he wanted to, and if they'd let him, he could retire right now and live out his life in comfort.

Mech Bio: Shade, formerly classified only as 41, appeared with Jack and suffers from many of the redundant systems that Bruce's Shadow does. After working on it for a while the mechanics have decided that it was most likely a prototype design for it and thus the name Shade. During one mission in which Jack was doing recon on foot Shade showed that it truly has a mind of its own, parts of the mau seemed to fall off and then come together to form what appeared to be a mechanical panther. The panther found Jack, who had been pinned down and his radio shot out. With help from Shade Jack made it back home. The only person who noticed this was Bruce and he has agreed to keep this event a secret. They haven't offered to remodel Jack's Shade like they offered Bruce, more because the higher ups want one of their best tools operating at peak efficiency than anything else. Not that Jack would take them up on it even if they did.

On missions Jack is much more unscrupulous than Bruce in his actions, although in thinking he's very similar. But he sets his personal feelings aside, for the most part. That's one of the reasons he was assigned to Bruce's squad to ensure that orders, even distasteful ones, are carried out.
