The What if you found the Death Note thread.

Ok here's a hypothetical situation. You live the same kind of life as Light and you found the Death Note. What would you do with it? Would you do things the same or differently than Light did or would you just burn it and be done with it?

For me after I confirmed that it worked I'd probably do what light did, but a few differences.

1. I would have started killing the criminals every hour on the hour right off the bat. That way the police wouldn't be able to make out a patern that would identify that I'm a student. Also I could set up the deaths well in advance and continue to live a normal life.
2. I would randomise the locations of the crimals that I kill to make it harder for the authorities to figure out where I live. Have them die in variouse countries so as to further make it hard to figure out what country I live in.
3. I would not have tried to kill L during that TV anouncement, even if he challenged me to. Acting on impulse like that was a big mistake. Besides L would have been one of the "Good hard working people" I'd be trying to help by getting rid of the criminals.
4. Even if the FBI did start following me I wouldn't have killed them. I would have just continued on with my normal life tell they eventually give up and moved on. There was no reason for Light to kill Ray Pember(SP?). He had already concluded that Light wasn't Kila. If anything it probably made L even more suspiciouse of those associated with the police.
5. I wouldn't have experimented on the crimals to find out the full abilities of the death note. If anything it gave more clues to L. I personally wouldn't have wanted to leave very many clues.

Personally I would just use the Death Note to try and make the world a better place. Even if it has to be acheived by fear. But the only ones that would be afraid would be criminals. As long as everyone obayed the law they wouldn't have to worry about suddently dropping dead from a heart attack for no reason.

And I wouldn't have any illutions about being the god or king of the world through using the Death Note. I would simply perfer to be the faceless harbinger of death to the wicked. But at the same time I would try not to let the power go to my head. The more recent episodes seem to show Light enjoying killing people, kind of phycopathic in a way. Which makes me think he'll go from just killing crimals to killing people for minor things like bumping into him on a street or in school.

And, quite frankly, I think that when you try to copy light's approach to the death note, you would fail. Your only learning from past mistakes(Lights) which is to your credit. However, if you actually had the deathnote, i doubt you'd start by copying an animated fictional character. Not to mention, that Light also adapted to every situation he was in in such a way that it required careful deliberation so as not to expose himself but at the same time try to get more information out of whomever he was talking to and he did it all within a few seconds! It takes a confident genious to actually do that, especially to the extent which light does.

And, I'd probably use the death note in such a way that i'd get caught. However, unless they have someone as philosophical(for lack of a better term) as L, they'll simply conclude that there's not enough evidence against me. Sure enough, if they actually FOUND the death note, then i'd become highly suspicious, but without solid proof that i was responsable, they'd be drawing on fairly little for a fairly high conviction.

Believe me, i don't want to get caught. It's just simple and obvious rational thinking. If I use it, then obviously there are some people who're gonna notice that somehow down the line i'm the common denominator.

additionally, i don't know if i would go for criminals RIGHT off the bat, even as a test run. Fact is that aside from the news, I don't have as detailed a grasp on criminal life as light does.

in the end, Even though i'd love to have that power, i kinda wouldn't use it as much which sucks.

I don't support the views of Light Yagami. And if I ever got in contact with the Death Note, I wouldn't dare to use it. Because if I had begun killing, I would care less about the people around me in the end. And I don't want that ever happen to me, or anyone around me.

I only posted this in the off topic area because its about what you would do with the death note and not about the show itself.

Anyways my point is that I would have thought things through before I even started using it. Part of that is because I do tend to watch some crime shows about real criminals and killers and see how the police investigate them. So I would take their percedures into acount in my strategy. Which is why I would have started with the every hour on the hour thing and having criminals die in different countries. Because that would make it as hard to figure out who I am as possible.

Even if I had access to the polices info that Light has on the investigation I wouldn't make any changes in my strategy inless it looked like they were getting too close to who I really am.

What would I do with it?

Make myself a Shinigami of course! I'd be the first person killing myself or asking Ryuk to make me a Shinigami right away. I'd rather kill people as a death god. Besides, I could kill more people and not get caught in the Shinigami realm, and I can't be seen unless someone touches my note book.
