...Except Kefka wasn't a clown. But even still, Earthbound has a cooler selection of bosses.
Only Earthbounds has you fight gangsters, psychic insects, a cultist, yourself, the INCARNATION OF ALL EVIL OMG, and that fatass from next door you've always hated that inexplicably got a Mech.

Only in FF6 can you play as a moogle and dance. Plus that same moogle can get a yeti. Then we gotta throw in the crazy ass espers, both old and new. Dont forget that you can bein a mech that fires lasers and missles!

The best RPG series I've ever played were the Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest games.

Kefka isn't a clown, he's a soldier. He's just a lunatic.
Moogles? How about DUNGEON MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN? Or hell, a psychic bee that's invincible to anything except middleaged housewives?
Espers? Pfft, give me Paula.
Mech? Let me reiterate: DUNGEON MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

Just because he wears face make-up doesn't mean he's a clown. There are plenty of French Aristocrats in the 15th-18th century that would wear full facial make-up for a sort of anonymity at balls and parties and such as an alternative or complement to masks and costumes. By wearing it, it's not only a tie in the Opera theme, but is also symbolic of Kefka hiding his true intentions until the point where it really counts.Clearly hes a clown and wears lipstick. OWNED!
OWNED.
First thing, there iz only VONE Dungeon Man. Secondly, just because people don't know about it doesn't mean it's not cooler.Everyone knows how badass a moogle can be, I bet half these users dont even know what a "Dungeon Man" is lmao.
Now, Moogles are cute and all, but how BADASS is it to have a Party Member that's a walking DUNGEON?
Paula wins for her prayer ability if nothing else, which is essential to winning the game along with providing comedy relief.Ill give you Terra, chick is human and an Esper!

Re: THE BEST RPG YOUR OPINION...
I know thier remaking Star Ocean: The 2nd Story on the PSP... I dont think thier gonna do that, I dont think they can. When Square and Enix merged they made a deal to finish off one of thier series (from each group) and keep one (from each group). Square kept final fantasy and finished it off with Chrono Cross. Enix kept Dragon Quest and finished off Star Ocean. Thats why we no longer have Chrono games or Star Ocean games, so basically, show me a reliable source and ill believe you.Duo602 wrote:There's going to be another Star Ocean game for the next-gen consoles. Star Ocean - though its discontinued, its truly epic and has my all time favourite battle system or random battles and then action sequences within those battles.

Re: THE BEST RPG YOUR OPINION...
I liked a lot, but I'll probably side with Dragon Quest VIII.
Re: THE BEST RPG YOUR OPINION...
Dragon Quest VIII was definitely and eye-opener for me
and also a very very! fun game to play, what with the, you know, replay values. Especially getting the... other... ending.

Final Fantasy VII. Some, not all, will agree. It re-opened the door for RPGs after the days of the Super Famicom/Nintendo, and showed the world that graphics mean nothing in an RPG if you have a compelling story and memorable characters. Technology was limited back then with hardware limitations and resources, but even today in 2007, 10 years from the game's release, people speak highly of it and with well deserved accolades. In today's video game world, most, not all people have forgotten the basic values of a gripping story and plot development, and would much rather just throw in graphics juiced up and a few flashy effects to make a sale. Turning back to FFVII however, the amount of extensions it produced (Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, Crisis Core, and Last Order just to name a few), in combination with the character's popularity are also reasons why. If that doesn't prove to anyone that the RPG itself was successful and a favorite among many, then you should re-assess your thoughts on the game. Admiring or despising it makes no difference, no one can deny the popularity of Cloud and Sephiroth, their cameos in other video games is your proof, in case anyone's deaf to gossip and blind to popularity polls. "The death of Aeris/Aerith Gainsborough", went down as one of the biggest shocks in video game history at that time, and played a big role in the plot's engaging twists and turns afterwards. The demented puppetry of Cloud, manipulated by a Jenova-Cell manifested Sephiroth was genius, the middle man for the deceased Zack was all Cloud was for Sephiroth's battle. After he layed waste to Aeris and before the Jenova Life battle, Sephiroth stated to Cloud "Because..you are", and after the battle finalized with "...a puppet." All on the first of three disks. I've said enough, and this is all IMO, of course perceptions will differ.

If were talking FF here. VI was better than VII. VII only gained the spotlight because, the story made absolutely no sense making people think it was simply "Beyond them". VI was what gave Square the name of "Amazing Story line, battle system and ... well who cares about graphics". VI had everything VII had, with the comic relief of Kefka, which really is the deciding factor here. VI wins by a hair though VII was still very good, but extremely overrated.
Also because there were many extensions to the story line doesnt mean its really good. It simply means its overrated/beating a dead horse. The rest of the installments killed the series in my opinion. The fact that square milked it made it seem less and less awesome to my eyes.

Re: THE BEST RPG YOUR OPINION...
Choice and personal assessment are why we, meaning people in general, have different views, and why there will never "truly" be an answer for "THE BEST RPG." I enjoyed VII, you enjoyed VI. Someone else may enjoy VIII over both, and XII over everything. Some people may not even like Final Fantasy at all and say "Breath of Fire was the best." It can continue forever, because it's human nature to debate. It's one of the aspects of life that makes us feel "alive."

Re: THE BEST RPG YOUR OPINION...
For me, Dragonquest VIII was undoubtedly an enjoyable, and long game. The Dragovian chronicle at the end of the game, explaining the Hero's origin, and defeating the King of Dragovians to obtain the samurai-esque Armor set was a nice addition.
