What do you prefer? [Japanese or English]

Re: What do you prefer? [Japanese or English]
I prefer Japanese. Just because it's mostly the first version of an anime I see. That and it's in a language I don't understand, so I find it cool.

I prefer English, I don't mind the Japanese if it's all that's available.
Re: What do you prefer? [Japanese or English]
I like being able to hear it in either Japanese or English (or, as the option has opened up recently, in German. You want a weird dub? Try German. Half the time the voice actors don't even try to lip sync). Anyway, out of those, I generally prefer Japanese because it's the original language. Either I like seeing the mouths move at the same time as the words (reference: when Ovan asks Haseo "Don't you want to know the truth?" near the beginning of GU2: Reminisince), or I like practicing my meager Japanese listening comprehension to satisfy the linguist hobbyist inside me.

Japanese
it's possible some animes may be better in english then japanese, but in general:
i can learn more japanese
its the original script
no butchered scripts for lip syncs or culture changes
generally, japanese one's have more emotion :/
japanese is so different to english, you just cant translate it
but, if you know no japanese and just go with subs, its not as if that makes any difference
for quite a while now, i've only watched anime in english when i have no other choice
if i could change the voices in games to japanese, i would without thinking. unless they really do end up terrible >_<

Agreed! Hearing Sasuke scream Chidori in Naruto Japs is just awsome XDKouen wrote:I prefer Japanese. Just because it's mostly the first version of an anime I see. That and it's in a language I don't understand, so I find it cool.
Re: What do you prefer? [Japanese or English]
I like both. I think the hate for dub is mostly due to a false notion that all English voice actors are bad and that the animation is drawn specifically to match Japanese dialog; they're not and it isn't. Some English voice acting is bad, yes, but so is a lot of Japanese voice acting. The only time I watch with the Japanese voices is when the English dub actually is intolerable or I'm watching a fansub for an anime that has no English dub. If I can give the animation my full attention without having to read a lot of subs, I'll check out the dub. Sometimes I'll just watch the Japanese version though.

Re: What do you prefer? [Japanese or English]
maybe me and many other people are unlucky when it comes to dubs then? :/
the animation may not be drawn to lip sync PERFECTLY most times, but it sure is made to actually fit the length of the dialogue and fit it well at least O_o
and then length of the same dialogue in english and japanese can differ greatly. so that stil lmeans having to edit the english
its not as if i'd go and watch an english film with japanese dubs (if i knew japanese very well) O_o
i'd watch it in english, for the same reasons (but that would make me miss out on the learning japanese bit and the cool japanese phrases D: lol)

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA XDXDXDXDXD
I don't care what language it's in, as long as it's anime/manga, then I will watch it. Some time's, I think that the dubs are good(Haruhi, for example) some are just beyond repair bad(.hack/legend of the twilight bracelet)

Re: What do you prefer? [Japanese or English]
The Japanese version to me is far better than the English one. In the Japanese one, the voices actually last how long the mouths are moving and sometimes in the English ones, they'll cut stuff out (ex. blood, cigarettes, violence, you name it). A prime example would be One Piece. Also, it helps you learn the language

Re: What do you prefer? [Japanese or English]
I like both to be honest. It depends actually on which anime or game I'm watching/playing.
But one thing's for sure is that I really like Haseo's English voice in .hack//Roots ~
imo, better than the Japanese version.
