What I'm about to say is useless, but:
I wish they would go back to The World: R1.
I'm sure there's SOMETHING interesting they could do with the old version...
I just miss it like crazy. GU and Roots are great, sure--but it's just not the same. It feels too different. Actually, no. Roots fit in with the older series very well to me. I was able to liken it to the older series because of similarities, and because of that, I enjoyed watching Roots almost as much as I enjoyed playing IMOQ.
It was GU that just felt entirely different.
GU is a great game, but I miss the way things were. The feelings, the tension, the mystery, the danger, the unnerving seriousness of it all, the scattered puzzle pieces that had to be smashed together into one terrifying jig-saw...
Is it just me, or are the Avatars nothing more than dangerous additions to your character data? I wanted their origins and their binds to The World to be emphasized more detail, and I'm not talking about the Terminal Disk.
I'm rambling, but still. I want a .hack game that feels like a .hack game. Give me the area layout of GU, but the emotions that came from the older stuff.

I wouldn't say they're overdoing it. All big franchises wants to move over to the next-gen and it's not unusual for a company to do so while other games are in development.
I actually have hopes of it being a multi-platform deal. There a few BandaiNamco 360 games out in japan, so they may make a smart decision and make a PC/360/PS3 mmorpg for us to play with :D

That's because a game for the wii would be very much of a wager and it wouldn't be as wide-stretching as a pc/360/ps3 cross-platform one (plus, making a Wii-game meld together with those others would be VERY hard, hence the multi-platform list not including Wii)zaffax wrote:Notive how the Wii ain't listed...Akuta wrote:I actually have hopes of it being a multi-platform deal. Or they may make an attempt for the 360, since it's the cheapest for developing (so it'd be another "test" like fragment most likely was)
I disagree. After playing GU I almost can't play the orginals anymore. Not only it the battle system better and classes balanced but the core part of all RPGs the characters are so much better than the orginal.Annwyn wrote:What I'm about to say is useless, but:

Kite was made as generic as possible to convey the feeling that you were really him in real life. Thats not so bad in itself but the problem was so many of the characters were optional that they weren't allowed to do very much of anything because there was a chance you didn't have them. So most of the characters can't do anything because they are optional and the characters you have to get either just aren't very interesting, aren't around much or don't do anything anyway.
On the other hand we get to see Haseo go from a jerk who doesn't want to like anyone to a somewhat decent guy with a rough exterior (so far in Vol.2 Vol.3 will probably change him even more) We have intereting characters like Ovan, Endrance, Sakaki, Alkaid and pretty much everyone in the cast is very interesting. Even the ones who don't do much have clear personalities unlike the generic characters of the first series. They even have there own character themes in GU something it is critical to me in RPGs.
So in the end if they make another series I am all for it but I hope they don't go back to the dullness that was the first series.
While I do agree with Jimbob that much of the first series and its characters were extremely generic there was a certain "magic" In playing the first games. Aspects I personally had never seen before such as wandering AI (dealt with AI before as robots or machines going haywire, but not where a program literally attacks someone). Of course the variety of areas to go to (which still should be made to a higher number). There is also so much more.
G.U. is interesting and fun. There are improvements on just about everything. But there are just somethings I miss like corrupted areas (before they were too common). Of course everything has both pros and cons, asking for too much will only lower quality I guess.
