I still think they should of taken the time and made it with the games voice actors instead of the ones on the show. Made it of quality I'm really disappointed about this dub.

I am not watching the dubs, and will turn on the Japanese voices when I play GU. From what I've heard (trailers and such), the VA's just don't sound right after watching subbed //Roots...

Sucks for you. No Japanese dub in the English G.U.

Phyllo sounds like Dumberdore with that stupid British accent. It's so obnoxious. When I first heard him and really wanted Haseo to just slap him out of the sky into that little pound thing!

Not to mention when I heard Kelly Sheridan as Shino, the first thing me and my friend said was "WHY IS BARBIE PLAYING SHINO?!"

I'm really not a fan of Ocean Studios. I remember them doing Inuyasha and not really liking the English Cast.

It's such a bummer hearing all these annoying voices after seeing the subbed. It just takes away from the feeling of the entire show.

I could say exactly the same thing about Kuhn and his preposterously American accent. I'm quite pleased that they have a British VA for Phyllo, and incidentally, he sounds nothing like Dumbledore, though I daresay sounding like Dumbledore would suit his character as the wise old man.

Shino is also very like Barbie, she has to appear to Haseo as if she is the perfect girl, despite the fact that she's selfish and manipulative.

I understand that Phyllo is supposed to be wise, but I really did not like his voice actor. Maybe it's because I saw the subbed first and had that voice in my head so when I heard the accent I was a little bit surpised.

I still think Kelly Sheridan should not have done Shino. Her voice sound so fake sometimes.

Welcome to my world... ¬_¬ I've gotten so used to hearing characters being recreated with American accents that it does little to bother me, so don't over-react when the tables are turned.

I always wondered, though, what it would be like to hear a character speak japanese with a French accent or something. I bet it would sound really weird.

I'm still rather undecisize on the voices to be honest.

I didn't like Ovan's at first, but I learned to tolerate it in the third episode.

I still prefer his Japanese voice.

The only voices I really like are Shino's and Ender's.

Tabby's voice seems a bit odd to me. The VA has the hyperness down, but
it's just the voice that seems a bit odd.

Haseo's voice is good, but not good enough compared to his japanese counterpart.

I imagine that after I buy .hack//roots, I'll still continue to watch it in the original japanese audio.

Tabby's English VA is perfect...

...Incidentally, many people wanted to kill Tabby even with her Japanese voice.

I haven't heard many complaints on Gord and Bset, I wish I could hear them but no one uploaded Episode 2 so I can't. T_T I like Kirby Morrow's work though, and while his voice is rather high for Gord, I guess it does stress the fact that Gord is a fifteen year-old girl.

I've never heard of Bset's VA before though.

Greetings, Iron Grunty, and others. I work on the .hack//Roots team at Ocean Productions, and it's a pleasure working on a series that has been met with so much anticipation . We care very much about whether or not people like our dubs as we are fans of the dot hack series too. It can be discouraging to read that .hack//Roots is being written off after only 1 episode. We work extremely hard in order to create a great dub. Of course, not every aspect can be controlled. As some of you have noticed, we were not selected to make the game, hence the different voices. We do appreciate everyone's comments, both positive and negative. Are there specific ways that you can think of to help us make .hack//Roots better (keeping in mind that there are some things that are out of our control)?

Well to be honnest you guys kind of steped into a mine field by dubing roots in the first place as due to your location its meant a different cast to the GU games which is a pain as both star the same main character, as well as many of the GU characters showing up in roots. Which I imgine will be the fandoms biggest problem with roots dub espically as we didn't have this problem with the previus hack series and games as all characters had the same VAs for their video game and anime apperences.

While I'm sure you guys have tried your best, to guys like me who like their anime/game franchise to use the same VAs it will be a little hard to get use to, though be a while anyway as got to wait for a uk release yet  So for me who has already seen the series in jap its very off putting to buy the series in english when the dub will be different for the games. Seems the japs learned to improve hack, while the US disrubters took a step backwards oh well

Though it doesn't suprise me this has happened considering the OAVs aren't being shipped with the games this time, nor were the GU actors every talked too about playing their characters for roots.

I just noticed this thread (I wish I would have noticed this sooner). I'm going to try and interview the fine folks over at Ocean Productions.

This will prob be asked later but what things is your team in control over? Then the right questions can go underway.

From the start, having different voice actors than the //G.U. games actors wasn't a very good choice.
And on top of that, well....I just wasn't happy with Roots' dub.
The couple episodes that I did watch sounded pretty mediocre in terms of production/voice quality. Maybe it's gotten better though, granted those were just the first few episodes of the series. Maybe it's gotten a tad better. I certainly hope so atleast.
