The officia name changes are:

Keyaki - Zeikova
Taika - Antares
Yowkow - Alkaid
Tenrow - Sirius

I'm not going to include Pi because we now know that she named herself after 'pi' in the Japanese version of GU as well.

Why the hell would they change that?

Well, atleast they aren't horrible. You could just call them by the Japanese names if nessicary.

Zeikova is another name for the plant Keyaki is named after, Taika is a Japanese name for the constellation of Antares, Yowkow is a name for the star also known as Alkaid, and Tenrow is another name for the constellation of Sirius.

They would've altered Taihaku's name if it didn't mean Venus.

I don't think they're too bad, personally, at least they didn't pull a 4kids and call Haseo something like Zack. >_<

Quick n00b question: do any of the characters with the name change appear in the anime? If so, I hope they keep whatever changes they make consistent for both media.

I don't think any of the characters are so much as mentioned in Roots, but I'd imagine that if they ever appeared in another media, then their names would appear differently. I mean we don't see Silver Knight being called Ginkan in the original games, do we?

Incidentally, here's a list of the VOs for GU who have done previous work in .hack and what roles they have played:

So the voice of Sora is doing the voice of Gaspard? I am so going at that!! I was hoping Wendee Lee would play Yowkow. . . I mean Alkaid (That sounds more like boy's name then a girl's) but I guess that's life. McGlynn, as hurtful as this sounds, did a poor job in that scene.

So far the voices are fine, but the way they perform seem to need work.

Agreed on that the voices need work but it's only the first cutscene.

I thought Wendee Lee would have been good as Yowkow, I half expected her to get the part.

I had a feeling that having Yuri Lowenthal do Haseo would not be too much of a good thing. Now we got Haseo sounding like Sasuke, and I hate Naruto too D:. Putting the anti-Naruto aside, Lowenthal as Haseo just didn't really fit, Haseo's voice to me seems a little too soft for a person with Haseo's attitude. It should be a little bit rough to fit the PKK type of character. Either that or Haseo's japanese voice really grew on me in Roots :/.

Actually, I think he's doing a good job as Haseo.

I think the VAs for Bordeaux and Pi should be switched around. Forgot the name of Bordeaux's voice actor but she does the voices for Morganna, Helba, and Motoko Kusanagi. To me Pi is like .hack's incarnation of the Major <_<.

I agree, McGlynn has a history for playing the 'wise' characters in games and anime. Why they put her as Bordeaux I will never know, but from what I seen and heard, it was a bad move on Bandai America's part.

I can't really agree with having BTs VA playing as Bordeaux anyway because BT is the type that would, in my mind, seduce people and use intelligence as opposed to fighting. Bordeaux doesn't really fit that description, probably the complete opposite.

BT's VA isn't Pi, it's someone else I never heard of before.

besides, you can't do anything about it so it's pretty much useless disagreeing with every VA's job well done.

I don't have to complain about any VA, they're all good enough for me.

BTs VA didn't play Pi, the VA who played Pi is called Jessica Strauss and she appears to be new to the .hack franchise.

Once again I'm the oddball here, I quite liked McGlynn as Bordeaux, especially when she getting ready to take out Haseo and saying "let me apologise".

I was surprised to see that Brianne Siddall isn't doing Endrance, but looking back she isn't suited to adult men. I think Liam O'Brien will do very well, he did a brilliant job as Gaara in my opinion.

I may not like her voice in that scene. But that might be because I'm still used to the Japanese voices, give me a couple of hours playing GU and I might warm up to it. Although. . . it's going to take me a while to get used to Wendee Lee playing Zeikova.
