We should send some sort of mass e-mail to Bandai so they'll fix this...

We gotta remind um to autoflag the Fragment e-mail too.

This is on the same forum that people said I over-reacted to the concept that Endrance would be changed to 'Endurance'? ¬_¬

I doubt they'd listen to an e-mail saying 'can you change Pi's name back to 'Pai' as it distresses many .hack fans?'

It just doesn't sound like anything too important, 'Pai' does work as a Japanese transliteration of 'Pi'. Thinking back, I doubt I'd react in this way if Endrance's name was changed to 'Endurance'.

No it's not that big of a deal, but it's lazy. Pai's name is romanized in multiple places as... well "Pai". This just shows that Bandai hired a lazy translator who didn't bother to double check his sources.

Unless, of course, Pai's name was meant to mean 'pi' and the initial romanisation of her name was a lazy translation... ¬_¬

The translators need to do more than just translate a game, they need to localise it as well. I know a number of people that make fun of Pai being a 'pie'. If she's called 'Pi' then people can't make as much fun because it has another meaning.

Bandai aren't above changing names to make things a little more marketable, Ginkan was changed to Silver Knight, and Tsukuyomi was changed to Moonstone. I wouldn't be surprised if Pai was changed to 'Pi' or even if Endrance was changed to 'Endurance'.

But we'll see...these still appear to be test screenshots, and I won't stop you sending an e-mail to Bandai-Namco.

Ginkan = Silver Knight, they just translated his name. Same with Moonstone though his name in romanji was Getchoseki, no clue where the hell you got Tsukuyomi from.

Pi is not a translation of Pai, just a different way of spelling it. The fact that her name is romanized as "Pai" in multiple sources should prove that it's not a lazy translation at all.

I do remember a debate referring to Pai's name possibly being a reference to the word 'pi'. So the kana form may be a transliteration of the word 'pi' and was, in turn, transliterated, resulting in 'Pai'.

You seem to have missed the point I made about localisation. Casual players probably won't play a game with a character called 'Pie', and I'm telling you this through personal experience, whereas if people see 'Pi' they might think it sounds quite intellectual.

Tsukuyomi...was me thinking about something else. I meant to say Getchoseki.

umm... but now people are gonna think her name is pronounced "pee". i dont see how this is better than pie jokes.

Pi is a pun on the math sign, Pi. (3.14...etc) I think this is better than being part of Oppai (Boobs), and since this is .hack it fits in quite nicely.

Well it's mostly just because we've spent the last umpteen months refering to her as "Pai". So it's a shock.

I sorta think Pi > Pai, personally.

I mean...Paizuri...

Just Pi. Makes me less horny, if you get my drift.

Now I'd be angry if they changed Matsu to Matt. XD (Hey - my name is Matt.)

And they should leave Tenrow in tact. But I think it would be cool if they changed Keyaki's name to Zelkova.

Actually, characters with more Japanese names are probably less likely to be altered.

Bandai-Namco isn't 4kids, they won't replace the original names entirely, so Matsu shouldn't be harmed...unless Bandai-Namco decide to be stupid and rename Matsu as 'Pine'... ¬_¬

Endrance is a possibility, as is Yowkow (purely down to the 'cow' jokes people can make), though I can't think of any others.

Endrance would be Endurance, obviously, and Yowkow could easily be Yoko, Youkou, and Yohkoh.

Zelkova = wtf? O.o

Huh, that's true. Like Nuke Usagimaru and Terajima Ryoko.

Hahaha. That would also upset me, probably. Do you think they'll translate Ikoro's names? Like Make Tenrow be called Sirius?

Haha, I kinda hope they leave it the way it is. It'll remind me of Kurama otherwise.

*Shrugs* =l
