Online Jack, why is your acting so lame?

Post by .hack//Subaru »

Rant.

Having just played through Vol. 1 again I had to re-watch the first third of online Jack. I've relized that the production value and voice acting is just not up to par with the rest of .Hack. Sure the story is good but the acting is poor (salvador >_> your brazil- accent? C'mon lame), even the characters and animation is semi-poor; while not horrible, it's put to shame by SIGN and Roots.
Just my oppinion.

Agree, disagree, discuss.

His Japanese VO counterpart was as annoying and hard to listen to also. It's the cliche eccentric womanizer voice I guess. :) The animation quality looked good to me (on par with liminality for a benchmarker). How much action and movement can there really be in "reporting" news?

The animation was actually quite cheap compared even to Liminality, but I still liked it...

well its supposed to be a webcast, like what you'd find on Youtube, so a less-attentive animation standard should reflect that I think.

Plus, it's actors acting as characters who are ACTING. It's probably supposed to be that terrible for comical effect.

Yeah, Online Jack's animation is different from say, Sign and Roots. But I thought that was done for a reason. In Sign and Roots, you're in the MMORPG; so everyone there is just a virtual character. In Online Jack, the characters are (supposed to be) flesh and bone. Naturally, when you're playing a video game the characters don't look so real that you could rip them right out of the screen--so I think that's what the difference in animation was aiming for.

I could be wrong, but that's the feeling I get from it anyway.

Did you mean "who voices him" ?
And his Japanese voice actor is the same as  Tokuoka, right?
(dunno if the spoiler tag is really needed, but just in case... :? )

I only meant the english VA, who happens to be Daran Norris. He speaks both Piros and Salvador in the english version.
And "speaks" is an error on my side since the german word for speak is also used for voice acting.

The action was alright though I enjoyed seeing out the outside world since Liminality only did a little bit of that. However the animation kind got on my nerves.

I don't know, I've already beaten the game, and I don't think I have them.

EDIT....never mind, I've got them, I just didn't know that was Online Jack, but its cool, I've got them, no need to panic.

I've got nothing against Online Jack. It's kinda interesting how it's linked to some of the events going on in the actual game. Salvador is funny in some instances, like how he fell off the ladder in the first game. I don't mind his voice at all, really.

I thought it was alright, I wasn't annoyed by the graphics because I usually don't really notice them unless they're terrible or amazing. Salvador's voice made him look like a moron, which was good because hating Salvador makes the Online Jack thing more entertaining because you get to see him make a fool out of himself. Although, it was kinda boring now that I think about it, not something I would watch/read about more than once.
