Just sharing some of my .hack experiences ( Reminisce)

Postby MyMight » Fri Dec 30, 2011 2:23 am

Hi all,

Recently, I have just finished playing through reminisce with the lowest level possible , by avoiding all the unnecessary fights.

I need to grind all the way to 51 at the start because the lowest level for the job extension quest is lvl 51.
The necessary fights are : Arena matches up to Sirius , Moon Tree parties, Matsu , Hiiragi and Sophora, Sakaki's pursuit and Ovan. ( please notify me if I have left out any )

TheSorrow has posted his low level attempts against Sirius ( which is insanely difficult due to Demise Claw) and Ovan.

Here are some of my Reminisce low level battles against Matsu , Sakaki and Ovan.
However they are not of the best quality since my PC slows down completely whenever I start recording my gameplay. Sorry for that :/

Low level battle versus Matsu ( Moon Tree Chaos) - Haseo level 59

Low level battle versus Sakaki - Haseo lvl 66

Low level battle versus Ovan - Haseo lvl 66

Hope you guys enjoy!
There are more to come, if you wanna have a look at my low level battles in redemption , visit this thread : http://www.dothackers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=18672

Sweet battles o3o Same strategy against Ovan, i see, though you used counters against Sakaki. It makes me wonder how well 2-Slot Counters would work against Ovan...maybe not so much, just in the beginning if you manage to lure Ovan, but if they don't kill him it'll just trigger his insane healing orb things and make things worse ;/
And i don't remember using counters in Vol. 2 at all; didn't find them useful enough XD

Sirius isn't insanely difficult due to Demise Claw exactly though, but due to how Sirius and the ghostly Azures behave overall. Trying to attack them normally is useless because they'll just trigger their invincibility shockwaves (and in Sirius case, it means death...a wide-ranged death too), they love chasing you all over, if you try to Hangeki the Azure's skills Sirius WILL counter you unless you're VERY CLOSE to the Azures (and even so the game could do some "lag" thing and end up with Sirius catching you first), if you don't counter their skills the Skill's animations (like Tiger Bite or Disaster Sword) are long and ranged enough to avoid through any methods, and yeah, because of Demise Claw you don't have to use Awakenings on the first part of the battle, and you HAVE to use a FULL Beast Awakening to quickly defeat Sirius in the second part before he uses Demise Claw.
Wierd enough, he CAN use Demise Claw even after you "defeat" him, and it'll overkill your team...but the game will go on anyways. I'm not sure why that happens but it happened in my recorded attempt, and at first i got pissed (WTF WHYYYYYYY) but then i thought it was epic and was very glad to have recorded it XDD lol

And as of your video quality...Maybe they'll look better if you speed-up the video using a video editing software, like Windows Movie Maker (or something actually better). Just a suggestion o3o I also use that PS2 emulator, and i also understand how it works fine until you attempt to record it, and it's even worse if you try to record it using the emulator's own recording system (it's SLOW AS HELL on your screen, even though the actual recorded video is fine). I haven't played GU on the emulator though...just a few fighting games.

Yea , you are right, the ghostly azures are annoying as hell. You have to keep on attacking them and can only counter Sirius' skill trigger, making the whole process very slow and tedious. Though, I have never tried the 'weapon changing' Strategy during the Sirius fight, wonder how well does it work? Changing weapon will make the opponent lose targets and gains Haseo temporary invulnerability, allowing you to outrun them , or atleast buy yourself sometime to figure out the next step. I wanted to record the fight with Sirius before this but the emulator slows down to 11.xx FPS, making the fight impossible to be done. However, I still get the same result during my fight with Sirius, got Demise Claw-ed to death after I withered him down low enough to let the game know that I have won. I guess the game has programmed Demise Claw to activate regardless of the end result, like Ovan's tri-edge attack. My fight against Ovan and Sirius are exactly the same as yours, just some small differences here and there.

2 slots counters trigger at a very low chance, but I still use them anyway since I let my partners die very often haha. I did a few attempts against Ovan using counters instead of awakenings, when Ovan was doing the 4 or 5 hit combo + 1 shot, atoli and endrance triggered the counter and his hp quickly went down to 300+. This triggers the tri-edge sign and kills me immediately. Atoli and Endrance was dead because I critical healed them before the Shot was released. Didn't try it again though, since I felt that Awakening is dealing good damage to Ovan, might as well use the safest way to defeat him. There was also this attempt where Atoli became invincible, but she just wont react to my commands, I tried to command her to revive me after the tri-edge attack but she just stands there doing nothing.

I tried to speed up the video but the audio become very squeky, like Haseo saying tiger strike in a very high pitch, and Endrance screaming in agony in a very weird tone. In the end , I use the original speed just not to screw up the audio. By the way what kind of software are you recording on a ps2? The video quality is really nice lol, and game still runs smoothly.

At least in my experience, it won't work as well unless you do it at a VERY PRECISE timing or in certain exact situations. Because if you use it to avoid a skill, for example, that skill will most likely be Disaster Sword or Tiger Bite, and since those have long animations and the invulnerability time is very short compared to how it was in Rebirth, you'll most surely end up caught in the skill anyways. Same with a normal combo, unless they get bored of attacking invincible Haseo before he loses it. Maybe the only way i can think of to avoid dying when it's too late is to either MASH R1, to quickly do a Hangeki, or MASH the Start button to do another weapon change D:

Oh really? o-O; It only happened to me once during low-level runs (where he was capable of killing me), and it was in that recorded attempt. All other attempts (...2. lol) ended normally without him using le claw, and the other times i was able to endure it normally due to being at a "normal" level for the fight. Maybe if he's already "selected" for doing it, he'll do it no matter what, but if you can stop him before such selection happens (activating Beast Awakening quick enough, possibly) and then defeat him, then the game will see Sirius had no actions left to do and just move on to the cutscenes.
And you can actually avoid Ovan's Tri-Edge attack in both battles, if you're able to inflict a strong enough attack to take down his HP from an amount high enough to not trigger the attack, to 0 (about 3000 damage or so). Very possible to do in Vol. 3 with 3-slot Counters, but perhaps impossible in Vol. 2 except by maybe a Beast Awakening-Rengeki-Heavenly Wheel at lv100 while Ovan's HP is just digits away from triggering the attack (...even though if you're lv100, it'll only barely scratch you anyways XD)

Yeah, not the greatest idea to use Counters against Ovan then; only worth it if you're really going to kill him, because leaving him near-dead will end you indeed D: And lol, poor Atoli didn't know what to do because she was a ghost and yet not really D: That invincibility glitch thing is cool, but somewhat difficult to trigger, and as i can see now, not all worth it if it's not Haseo.

lol, I can see how that would be a problem XDD And you mean what kind of software i used for the GU videos i uploaded? It's not a software, and it's a method i wouldn't really recommend XDD What i did was to connect a video camera, the kind of videocamera you hold and move around, through S-Video-RCA stuff to a VHS player (yeah i still have one of those XD), which in turn was connected to the TV. So basicly, as i played i was recording stuff from the TV into the VHS, which in turn was also recording the very same on the videocamera. The videocamera recorded this in a DVD, in a .VOB file especifically, and after recording i had to put that DVD into a computer, extract that file, convert it to a valid format (.avi usually), and then finally upload it. A LONG PROCESS that could've been simplified by simply having a capture card or a TV with a direct connection to the computer or whatever else XDD I don't record anymore due to lack of time, and because that whole process was too bothersome, at least for me. Can't just decide to record stuff whenever i feel like easily D:

Yea , precise timing is needed but the best weapon to change into is the SCYTHE, changing main weapon to scythe has the longest animation out of the 4 weapons, gaining more invulnerability time. The only skills that I have problem dodging are Reaper's touch and Whirlwind, I don't know why but those skill somehow disables your actions halfway through the combo ( For reaper's touch's case, the time when the caster lifts his scythe to do the final slash) Other than those, I think changing main weapon is still a pretty safe way to dodge skills. You need to change the weapon twice to dodge the skill entirely, change to scythe 1st when the opponent is charging towards you, then mash triangle to change into broadsword. In most cases, changing weapons this way ensures full invulnerability, except the aforementioned skills. The only time that I actually change into dual swords is during the fight with taihaku ( after casting heavenly wheel , he will be in Shockwave stance ) , that's because wielding dual swords allows Haseo to run faster and at the same time, not wasting too much time on weapon changing.

Oh really? o-O; It only happened to me once during low-level runs (where he was capable of killing me), and it was in that recorded attempt. I see, actually I did not trigger Sirius' demise claw before prior to this playthrough, that was my first time seeing enemy using Divine Awakenings lol. Not sure how the game mechanic works in this particular battle ~.~

And you can actually avoid Ovan's Tri-Edge attack in both battles, if you're able to inflict a strong enough attack to take down his HP from an amount high enough to not trigger the attack, to 0 (about 3000 damage or so). Haha, but that's kinda impossible in the normal play, so I never actually tried it out.

By the way, your way of capturing video is really cool lol, but how come it doesn't seem like it is recorded with a video camera at all? Yea agree, kinda troublesome but still it has a pretty good quality lol

Actually, it looks more like it's recorded with a VHS player XD You can totally see the differences if you compare with your videos, for example...mine tend to look somewhat blurry and the number/letters can be hard to read, while in yours everything looks so clear and bright XD The actual device doing the recording process is the VHS player...the videocamera is just getting an exact copy of the VHS recording and storing it in the DVD. However, some of my first videos, like the Reminisce Avatar battles, were actually recorded with the videocamera directly, and you can obviously notice it by some details such like me moving the camera, the auto-focus it tends to do, the edges of the TV at some points, etc.

And btw, talking about it, your video quality seems to be improving over time :P Your first videos, such like the Moon Tree battles and Sakaki, look quite poorly and slow compared to your last Redemption videos; that Ovan video looks all normal and smooth at several parts XDD

Ohh now I noticed that after rewatching your videos hahaha. But atleast the gameplay is recorded at a normal speed, unlike mine lol.

Yea, I played with the settings abit and finally get decent one. I changed the compressibility of the video to a faster one so that my cpu can read the recorded video more quickly, allowing my emulator to run faster. Im still a noob to video recording :/, finding ways to improve the quality yet ( maybe the only way is to get a better pc =.=)
