Between the movie and the OVA? No, but the thing is he speaks Japanese in the Kansai dialect, which really weird but impressive for a foreigner. He comes off as goofy-sounding because of it. But he speaks English like a cool badass. The thing is, in the OVA, his English is "translated" into Japanese speech, so when he speaks "English" in the OVA it sounds like badass cool Japanese instead of the dialect. So after he catches his flight you'll hear a difference in the way he talks, represents the fact that he speaks English normally, and doesn't sound Texan or something. I think they felt doing the whole OVA in English would lose the audience so they did it in Japanese. As a sidenote his voiceactor is really impressive, this is all one person doing English, Kansaiben, and Japanese. The guy in the pilot movie was not even close to this awesome.

Tanaka is probably not Orca's son, but he has a PC that looks like him also named after whales, as he explains in the movie (gondokujira is Japanese for pilot whale).

The thing I forgot to mention is that during the movie, whales get misled and stuck in bays due to strange electric impulses.

So the question isn't if Tanaka is Orca's son, but rather is he the son of an actual orca. That would explain why he navigates himself to America, and why they made such a big deal about the whale thing and never followed up on it. But for real, they might have some symbolism going there or something...

That's what it is! lol Thanatos is pretty intense though, it makes me wonder if Emma Wielant actually did die in an accident, given that she was part of mama. Can you guys imagine if she never died to begin with, and is actually the one pulling the strings? What a twist that would be. lol

I hope not. Lara would be far more epic. The insanity of having lived the Epitaph.

You're right,it would be pretty epic, did .hack//Epitaph of Twilight ever get tranlsated? There isn't much detailed info about it, that i can find anyway. But in any case they always manage to make the storyline pretty good, so i'm expecting something along those lines.

Nope, it was never translated. I do own it though, but I doubt I'll ever get around to translating it. It's fairly long and in two volumes.

How about if we do a group translation for the two volumes that you currently have. For example, one person would translate one chapter and another person translating another chapter and so forth. Then we collaborate it together to editing or correctings.

I want to try translating. Only I need are the scans of the book and text in high definition, so that I would see if I could decode it. If you don't mind by any chance.

If I had someone to help translate and edit, I'd be more interested in doing it. If we can get a few people to take on a few chapaters each and then have an overall editor to check the translation for quality purposes, that would be great.

There are so many pages to scan, so I would recommend buying it. It's not too expensive. The only issue is that translating it and distributing it for free online, even though it has no rights in North America, is still on the grey side of legality.

At least with .hack//Bullet, that novel is free in Japan.

This is a law I still want to know about. But about that grey area, in truth don't International Copyrights for Japan & North America use the Berne Convention & WTC to protect various works soon as they are in a fix medium? I know there are additional treaties (even one that requires countries to treat works as they would their own) but not as many share by both countries. Also from what I remember isn't any original work in America with authorship is automatically copyrighted. So unless I misunderstand Epitaph is guarded at the moment it because its format. (Not to state that can stop a translation)

Yeah, it's hard to know for sure, but I'd say it's copyrighted. But as long as we make clear that we are not making a profit, we can probably get away with it. It'll most likely never come out in English otherwise anyway.

Hey, I have both volumes of //Epitaph of Twilight as well as //ZERO, and I'm going to scan them because I am digitally archiving my .hack collection.
If you need these scans, please let me know and I'll try to get them up asap.

EDIT: Also, definitely try to get ahold of the Rikai-chan and/or Rikai-kun programs, because they can take images and convert selected areas to text.

ALSO I would be willing to edit //AI Buster so that it no longer has mistranslated sections. And I can edit any of the other novels once they are in English.
Unless tokyopop revives or someone else picks up the rights, I really doubt there is any interest in suing fans over it.

.hack//Bullet MAY have clues that tie in with the movie and the ending. The next few chapaters came out and I haven't translaed them yet, but they involve Ryuuji going into The World as Fluegel to investigate Geist and stuff, so maybe clues will appear that help explain past and future events.

So, PLEASE read and discuss .hack//Bullet.
Yup, Veronica Bain (Mama founding member and CC Corp's founder and chairwoman--the first person we've met higher in the company than Genius, and quite possibly the one who fired him), who was in Fluegel's briefing in Thanatos Report, just showed up. (Not to mention the Deadly Flash hacker, Yuri Seto--they're really tying all this together)

Anyone notice how all the leaders of Mama are female? Even the breakaway faction. They're really progressive. Actually I think Mama is one of the coolest things about the 3rd season, they're a very original kind of cult. They're obsessed with returning to nature while being active pioneers in the most cutting-edge technology the world has seen. It's different from the cults you usually see on TV.

Still don't think it's going to answer the Tanaka thing, but I guess we'll see where they go with that. The last chapter of Bullet is "Cathedral", if it was "doubleware" or something it would be more promising.

What do people think is coming next? A game? An anime? A second movie? I think initially the concept of a doubleware was difficult to get audiences to digest visually (as well as mentally) but after doing Link and Versus I think they've gotten really good at it. I think if they launched with Link the anime it would have been strange and surreal. But now, what only really worked in a PSP game or manga before could finally work in a full-on game, or a movie, or an anime.

Kuukai wrote:I'm not sure how much has been discussed anywhere else, but I'm slowly progressing though the game and here's what's happened so far. It helps to watch my Link videos first since so far this is all a direct sequel to the plot of Link, moreso than the movie or Quantum or anything else--it deals with real-digitalization rather than soul-digitalization.

-In 2025, CC is closed-beta testing a new online fighting game, Versus: The World, based on the history of The World, that will be released the next year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The World being released in 2006.

-You play a beta tester you can change basically everything about, so I'll just call this person "the champion." The champion swiftly rises through the ranks and creates quite a stir on the boards, especially among newbies. The boards are also populated by all the junkie players you'd expect to be beta testing this thing, from Silver Knight to Piros 4 Ever to Kuhn. Most of them are concurrently playing FORCE:ERA. Sakuya even makes a real appearance on the boards, prompting requests for autographs and screenshots from fans of Versus with her inexplicable celebrity status. No one really knows why she's in the game, although Tobias and Mary attempt to explain Bloody Christmas (the events of 2022) to the board.

-The server is taken down many times due to unauthorized access from a hacker, which turns out to be real-digitalized Tokio. Tokio eventually contacts the champion and asks the champion to fight him, telling them that they're a "possibility"--and that all the other "possibilities" he's found have turned out to be no good.

-After being defeated twice, Tokio reveals that any normal human would have been real-digitalized by now during these battles. Many beta testers for the game have been real-digitalized and haven't been heard from. However, the champion possesses a special disposition (pretty much the opposite of a doubleware) making them immune to real-digitalization. This is what Tokio has been looking for. Tokio isn't sure what CC is planning by bringing back this technology, but he tracked down an area on the server that's the origin of the real-digitalization signal, a very dangerous Battle Point that would bring any normal player into the game before they could defeat it. Tokio wants the champion to do what no one else can and defeat this area, allowing him to shut down the system and his friends to trigger a reset program that frees the trapped players.

At this point his friends are still working on the program and I need to finish the Gold tier (slow, I know, I've been busy with life... I was literally climbing Mt. Fuji when this came out), I'll update this when things progress...

CC discovers Tokio has an accomplice among the beta testers, and starts trying to track them down. Since the player's whole ability is that they can't escape into a computer if the feds bust down the door, Tokio decides not to involve this person any further--but tells them to continue playing normally, because it would look suspicious if they quit right away.

Getting closer to being champion, think this is probably going to wrap up soon.

You trigger the reset program, which frees Tokio as well, CC cancels the beta test (but allows testers to keep playing offline with their installed data). Dozens upon dozens of players were real-digitalized during the beta test as an experiment. Tokio theorizes that all of the beta testers would have been trapped in the game. According to the news, missing persons are coming back. CC gave up on chasing Tokio and the player, deciding to pretend that nothing happened. Tokio promises that he and his friends will take over from here.

It's really cool the way Tokio uses his powers to narrate at the end. I wonder if the credits are eventually replayable, they're awesome.

Okay, I have a headache and I'm tired but let me see if I get this.

In the year 2025 CC Corp decides to bring back the Real-Digitalization technology started by Amagi (for reasons unknown, but with CC Corp they don't need a reason) and they concocted Verses: The World as a front to experiment with people to see who are Double-Wares and who aren't. Eventually, Tokio who I'm assuming learned to how to manipulate his Double-Ware ability on the fly hacks into the closed beta by real digitalizing himself into the game. He soon(or probably from the beginning) learns of what CC Corp is planning but not sure why but knows well enough that it can't be good and the reason why he hacks into Versus: The World is to find help, initially other Double-Wares like him but unfortunately, those that he found were Real-Digitalized and somehow disappeared. He then comes across you and after "testing" you he learns that you have an immunity to the Real-Digitalization or rather an "Anti-Double Ware" and since you are immune to Real-Digitalization you're able to help Tokio out without dangers of disappearing.

Eventually you and Tokio discover what I'm assuming is source of the of the wavelength of light that convert mass into data and allows for Real-Digitalization. And gives you the task destroy it and free those who were trapped. Soon however CC Corp discovers Tokio whereabouts and his apparent accomplice(you) and goes after you both. Tokio gets caught and its all up to you to destroy the source of the wavelength and free all those who were Real-Digitalized.

In the end, you activate the reset program which destroys the source of the Real-Digitalization wavelength light and resets Versus: The World. Those who were Real-Digitalized and apparently reported as missing people in the real world started returning and to cover their ass and dissolve any possibility of CC Corp being related to the missing people(which they so are) they ended the CBT of Versus: The World, stop all pursuits of Tokio(who I'm assuming has disappeared at this time) and you and throw off this whole ordeal as if nothing has ever happened. But in the end Tokio and his friends promise to take over the well-being of the internet(?) or The World Force: Era(?)(Clarify me on which one) from there.

I hope I got it. Truth be told, it started to make a lot more sense as I wrote it (a lot more sense than Link which I still don't fully understand) but questions. Who are Tokios' friends? Haseo and everyone from before? And if so are they AIs like in Link?

All and all I'm surprised and not surprised at CC Corp this time around. They've always been greedy, manipulative bastards but this is technically kidnapping. And for what, experimentation of Real-Digitalization? If word of all this ever hit the public eye CC Corp would be shut down and completely arrested.

CC Corp is controlled by Mama. Real digitalization is an essential part of their plan. That's the reason. It actually appears to work on anyone, regardless of whether or no they're a Doubleware. The one thing special about the player is that they have the ability not to be real digitalized by the game. As I pointed out, it doesn't seem like they even need Aura if they can do this now, but I can imagine Tokio went in and messed up their stuff afterwards. He just said he was going to take care of things, as in the culprits of this.

...Sorta. You can't destroy a wavelength of data. He just finds the "weak point" of the server (the last boss) where the signal is originating from and anyone normal would be Real-digitalized. It's wireless devices that do the actual real-digitalizing, like the p-com, this just tells them too, like how Pluto's Kiss tells traffic lights not to work.

Did you watch the 2 story videos about Link we put up? Was there anything unclear in there? I've haven't gotten that much feedback. His friends are probably other hackers like Saika, Fluegel, and Cello. If he was smart he'd recruit the real Pi and Zelkova.

Well that's a surprise but makes sense since Real- Digitalization does help with save mother earth as you said.

But the Double Ware stuff back in Link really wasn't true? Now that I remember near the end of Link when Aura succumbed to Immortal Dusk, random people in Japan did start to digitalize into the The World.

Aura can do a lot of things, she can apparently real digitalize people who aren't doublewares, and she can hack into everyone's computer to do it too. But between Sophia and what they were doing in Versus, it doesn't really look like mama needs either of these anymore, but maybe it would still be easier to use actual Aura. Or maybe Tokio succeeded in sabotaging their work. Maybe Sophia is still broken after the movie. Or maybe in the instant Aura had freedom she did everything she could to knock their work out of commission. Hard to say.

Can some one elaborate I am confused. And yes I finally gave in to start reading bullet. But wouldn't it be easier to explain that a double-ware are more compatible humans for real digitization and that mama is manipulating the wavelength through The World to better apply to the rest of the population?  To add I received .hack//Quantum I(Introduction) today, if there there's real digitization, soul digitization what are the chances of their being another form of digitization? Hermit was in isolation but what about the character from Introduction? BTB I spy Zelkova !_!

I haven't seen the Thanatos Report yet, are the people who are talking about it the ones who actually bought .hack//Versus, or is it actually subbed yet or is there a summary out there? I just finished watching The Movie and I'm craving more, lol.

Where exactly are these links? Forgive me if it's someplace obvious.

I only know about Mama from what I read about on the .hack//wiki. My mind immediately jumped to the Cyberconnect2 games Tail Concerto and Solatorobo. The game takes place after an apocalypse on floating islands where the Earth has actually been destroyed and humans are extinct. I heard rumours that there is a computer terminal that hast he CC Corp logo on it. Could it be that the reason Mama are real-digitizing people are to digitally archive humanity and the world to survive an apocalypse? Maybe Tail Concerto takes place after .hack//?

I haven't actually seen the CC2 sign in Solatorobo. Can someone help me confirm this? I haven't actually played those games either. I might be overthinking it too... I just felt it was worth bringing up.

Tail Concerto has no connections to .Hack.

Read about Mama again. They're trying to preserve the nature of mother earth because they believe that all of its resources will be depleted in the next few decades if mankind continues on the pace of energy use that they're on now. They're trying to find a way to halt all human activity and preserve the nature of earth and its natural resources without outright killing humans. That's where Real-Digitalization seems to come in.

'She predicted the complete extinction of all life on Earth within the next 1000 years if current emission trends continued.' And in Tail Concerto humanity has gone extinct. I think I'm wrong but I just thought it would help if you knew my train of thought.
