Wow, just....wow. I had the idea of a .hack DS game since before the DS was even out *even made a thread or two about it some places...*, and I'm suprised to see that something like it MIGHT actually come out. The thing is, it's been said that a .hack MMO(which would be possible with wifi capabilities) wouldn't be wanted, so we might not see any online play. There's always hope though, right? Whoo, this makes me excited. (I do realize, that this is most likely the Concerto game, but here's to hoping, eh?)

CC2 has a few possible projects, with PS3 and DS games confirmed (yet not named). The games are supposedly represented by the following two sections on the main CC2 website:

Game 1's platform is unknown, but believed to be the PS3 project CC2 are working on. Game 2 is confirmed as CC2's DS project, by the promotional art itself. But what are these projects?

Rumours say CC2 are working on a new .hack game, a new Tail Concerto game (Mainly due to the revamp of TC's website, and similar art being featured in the announcement of DS and PS3 projects by CC2), and a game based on the manga 666. How do these pages on the CC2 website relate to the 3 possible series they're rumoured to be working on? Let's see.

Game 1's page is very simple. An open hand, presumably wrapped in bandages, with accompanying text. What does it say? The text references the "Mark of the Beast", and a supposed excerpt from the bible (I haven't read the bible, myself). For those unknown, the "Mark of the Beast" is the number "666". The text also mentions "figures" (as in numbers, not people/characters). Game 1 is almost definitely the rumoured game based off the manga 666.

Game 2's page is more direct, featuring a single piece of promotional artwork. The main feature of the artwork is the mention of its platform, the DS. The art style has been likened by many to that of the game "Tail Concerto", due to the character designs in the artwork. The artwork also features a glimpse - or cameo - of IMOQ's Kite (Or G.U.'s Azure Flame Kite), and the phrase "To The World!!", references to the .hack series. Taking into account G.U. featured a slightly different style when compared to the original .hack series, one could say the artwork difference (Which is a possible connection to Tail Concerto) is simply the art direction taken for "The World" in its next evolution (Although considering a DS .hack game would need to be 2D to get a decent length, such a change of art style makes sense).

So, while Game 1's identity is confirmed, people are still unsure about Game 2: is it .hack? Or is it Tail Concerto? Personally, I believe the former.

In a recent interview, CC2's president Hiroshi Matsuyama spoke of .hacks future. He stated that because of .hacks game/anime/manga/novels and the like, one project (possible G.U.) took 3 and a half years to complete, and that from now on they'll be doing things differently. After hinting at a single volume, he goes on to say "We're just working hard so that we'll be able to give you a game in the near future, without making you wait three and a half years." This means the next .hack game - regardless of volume numbers, tie-in media, or platform - will take less than 3 and a half years to complete (Likely 1-2 years, or less).

Taking into account the presidents comment (in that they're working to bring the next .hack out as soon as possible), the DS projects possible connections to .hack, and the hints on the main CC2 website that we may see a new .hack as early as fall (According to Kuukai), it's very easy to deduce that the next .hack may be a single volume game released on the DS, and will be released within the next 6 months.

Well, that's my take on the situation of what CC2's projects are, at any rate.

So why is Kite there?
Either it's an easteregg for the hardcore fans, or a crossover game. They even have a big "-To The World!!-" written there.

Ever seen or played Tail Concerto?
Look for some videos on YouTube. The intro by Kokia is really good.
Tail Concert is full of rideable robots/mecha (you play in one, most of the time), those mini airships with gondolas and everyone is a furry.

Anyways, with the completely new look of GU anything could happen in a new game. Hell, even the Tails of Concerto (sp? name?) game that thier working on could have influenced it a little. If they both have the same writing staff and artists it will most likely, even in small amounts, carry over from one game to the next.
