.hack//MANIFEST Chapter I: The Stone of Destiny

Post by twilight_keeper »

An Indeterminate Time in 2014…

It seemed like The World had finally come to an acceptable level of peace and quiet once more. All of the issues that plagued the system finally dealt with, all of the chaos that ensued with the Dothackers and Morganna. The problems solved, players could finally play The World without fear of destruction of their characters or their lives. The Golden Age of The World had reigned strong for 3 years. At CC Corp, a project began in order to gain control over something unknown to most players, control over The World they never knew about.

The Omega Server of Lia Fail had disappeared and been replaced with Helba’s Net Slum during the fight against Morganna, which resulted in Omega Server being something of a mystery within itself. Where did this “Net Slum” come from? Most players never knew the truth, but more importantly to some: What happened to Lia Fail? A certain group of players, determined to discern the answer to this all important question set out to seek what had been now known as “The Lost Ground of Lia Fail”. To some, a holy pilgrimage with an indeterminate end; to others, a journey to find a truth deeper than most would ever come close to imagining.

The tale of the heroes of the Stone of Destiny would never truly be told, but the legend still remains among some more educated and obsessed lore-mongers during the second age of The World. They call it the Legend of The Stone. Information brokers and the like know it better as the “Manifest of the Twilight Dragon". Still others may know these brave souls as “The Last of The First Generation”. In particular circles, they are known as “The Last of the Lost”. Seeking a vanished land, something many would consider a fruitless quest, as nobody can find a missing piece of data simply through playing the game… could they?

Gameplay rules are standard, R:1 systems apply. No PKing, No Godmoding, and all that jazz. Players are between levels 90 and 99 mostly (unless you’ve got some kind of reason to be lower level). System breaker powers (called the Manifest of the Twilight Dragon) will be introduced later on, but currently are locked.

The Hero of Zeit!

Post by Haseo{Terror of Death} »

Player Name: Akira Hibiki

Player Age: 21

Player Gender: Male

Character Name: Tetsuo 41

Character Title: The Hero of Zeit

Character Gender: Male

Character Class: R:1 classes. Heavy Blade

Twilight Dragon Manifest:
Cloak of the Twilight Dragon: Allows Tetsuo 41 to avoid any enemy encounter, so all gates will be open as if he was never a player, and monsters will neither notice nor chase him, even should he initiate battle.

Legend: Tetsuo 41 is known for his speed, whether riding a grunty or taking on the Hero of Zeit Quest he's made it his purpose to quickly and assuredly finish everything with the best possible record.

Player Appearance: Being a NEET is not cool in real life.

Character Appearance: The Wandering Samurai

Personality: Pretty nice all around, bit of a White Knight, hyper competitive at times, but hates PVP.

Biography: Akira played the game since it came out, unfortunately unable to get into the Beta, but that was probably the “worst” of his high-school days. He played the game and for the longest time gained no notoriety or fame, no recognition, pretty much nothing. When the legendary One Sin quest became available he attempted to claim it, failing horribly in the process. Even with a team of what he considered experienced players, they simply could do no harm to the beast. When the legendary winged Blademaster arrived and claimed victory was his and his partner's alone he couldn't believe it. Shortly afterward the game got wacky and his beloved server went down, but the game had been glitching pretty hardcore before that, with server issues and players having gone missing but not really. The whole incident was a fiasco, but Akira couldn't help but think this was all some quest for him to solve, unfortunately it was not. That was the legacy of the .hackers, who saved the world, and amongst them of course were the descendants of Fianna. Akira decided to crush all of Balmung's times in the Hero of Zeit dungeons, dedicating his “life” to it. When Balmung became administrator to the world and changed it Akira rededicated his life to The World's true final mystery.

Player Name: Wakaba Sakurakouji

Player Age: 25

Player Gender: Female

Character Name: Hecate

Character Title: The Eyes of Ice

Character Gender: Female

Character Class: Wave master

Twilight Dragon Manifest: (Currently Unusable)

Sight of the Twilight Dragon - Allows temporary control over a field. The user can alter anything around them for only when the power is in use. The most dangerous part of the power is that the time between a transition from either is unstable.

Legend: A known elemental mage who can use magic and often create new uses. Often surrounded by other wave masters for her expertise.

Character Appearance: Image

Personality: A silent person, she rarely does anything out of pleading or begging. As a result, many people have either gotten used to her behavior or believe her to be snobby. However, she is not snobby at all, and is more than willing to help if one is patient enough.

Biography: Wakaba began the game around college. As a result, her exploits are rather amazing, considering her ability to be known among the people bothered her quite a bit. She began to be noticed when she protected people who seemed to be nice from some monsters. She started to mix spells and equipment, forming what looked to be her own witch craft. When the game started to glitch, she did her best not to leave the game, like many people who followed her around. She found there were still people willing to stay, but she did not take too many chances with them.

Player Name: Yuuki Konno
Player Age: 24
Player Gender: Female
Character Name: TheCaptainBlackBeard
Character Title: Captain. The Captain. and occasionally My Captain. (Accept no substitute.)
Character Gender: Male
Character Class: Blademaster (Suck it Blade Brandier!)
Twilight Dragon Manifest: Twilight Aura's Revenge: An airship capable of transversing the world and is armed with powerful cannons.
Legend: Black Beard has taken on many raids without ever being part of a proper guild.
Player Appearance: Cat Eared Headphones are cool
Character Appearance: Image
Personality: Very big on acting like a "proper" pirate.
Biography: In real life Yuuki spends a lot of time just doing what her parents tell her to, but in The World she is free to do as she wishes which is why she's never tied herself down to a guild, even one of her own making, but she also loves the challenge of raids and so she organizes groups to take on the large raids. And while a perfectly competent commander she's usually on the front lines and thus usually leaves the actually strategic decisions to someone with a better vantage, like a wavemaster, but she doesn't always listen to them herself seeing as she is The Captain, not them. She refuses to give up on her world just because it's getting a little glitchy, it's her world, her seas, her skies, and she'll sail them however the hell she darn well pleases until her ship sinks with her at the helm.

((We'll start either once the next person says something, or I get bored and double-post the opening))

Player Name: Teshigashima Joji (DJ Tanagashima)

Player Age: 28

Player Gender: Male

Character Name: Souzoushii

Character Title: The Noisemaker

Character Gender: Male

Character Class: Heavy Axeman

Twilight Dragon Manifest: Roar of the Twilight Dragon – Raising his voice into a mighty roar, he can shatter the protection of all creatures and characters around him, both lowering their defenses and ability to withstand data drains and other hacking-like abilities. At full voice, can paralyze them completely (not the status effect) as well, however, this tends to affect everyone, friend or foe, if they aren’t prepared.

Legend: Known mostly for hosting in-game parties, primarily in Omega Server. After the fall of Lia Fail, took up residence in Net Slum and spent a good deal of time helping people deal with the change, through song and dance. Due to his nature, he has collected a good deal of information, and dispenses it rather freely.

Player Appearance: Gotcha Mind in a Trance

Character Appearance: Image

Personality: The total life of the party, he is raucous, wild, and more than a bit rough around the edges. He’s absolutely no etiquette, and cares not about it, as his lifestyle and culture he lives in dictates the lack of need for crap like that. Despite his rough attitude, and loud personality, he’s more than a bit friendly, especially to those that share a love for music and dance. However, he does have a hair trigger about a lot of things, mostly disrespecting his life choices and those like him; as well as the craft of music, mixing, and dancing. Has no taste for uptight people, total unkindness, silence, or chicken. He’s something of a hypocrite however, since he tends to treat new people he meets without much care, unless they really catch his attention. Has a taste for Harajuku styles, and purple hair.

Biography: A DJ that plays at a prolific club in Roppongi, he spends 90% of his time at the club, to the point where most people just think he lives there. When he’s not working or socializing, he plays The World to spread more of his art around the real world, as players across the globe have come to the JP servers, although he plays on other servers as well, due to his contacts in the music world.

He’s loved music and mixed tracks since he was in middle school, and at this point in his life has released several albums under the moniker “DJ Tanagashima”. While he has enjoyed moderate to good success in the music and rave-scene world, he aspires to become world famous, among the likes of Armin Van Buren. He doesn’t believe that he’s good enough to match tracks with the greats though, and it seems to hold him back from what he believes is “The Greatest Party in the World”.

Teshigashima has been estranged from his family for so long, he barely remembers much about them. This is partially due to a concussion he suffered from a fight earlier in his life, which caused a minor bit of brain damage, however, he considered his closest friends and co-workers his family now, so he has little desire to return to them; if even see them again. But he does have some measure of compassion for others who chose to leave their families as well, helping them get along without them. He tends to be protective of those and fiercely loyal to his closest friends and confidants because of this.

In reality, he’s a fairly lonely individual, desperate to find something or someone who can reach for the stars like he does. Motivation and drive are his lifeblood, and he believes only someone just as driven as him could really understand his thoughts and feelings. The negative reaction he receives due to this can usually be attributed to his brusque manner when dealing with people that he first meets, tending to prejudge them before learning anything about them.

He chose to find Lia Fail again as an action to return to his favorite place to be, despite his great taste for the aesthetics of Net Slum, as well as the memories associated. However to him, the memories associated with Lia Fail are greater, as that was where his first successful internet rave was founded.

Somewhere in Roppongi.

Logging in….
Ω Server – Net Slum

The World’s most famous DJ logged into the game after checking his e-mail, which had confirmed use of the Root Town for a celebration, with attached notice about equipment and usage terms, as usual. It didn’t take him too long to get set up, making all the necessary preparations, while some eagerly anticipated what the “enigmatic” music-maker had in store for them, while others went about their daily gaming business, sure to return once the party got officially off the ground.

Once everything was ready, he drew in a deep breath, making a show of it, then belted out at the top of his lungs through his CC Corp speaker system, hooked directly into the background music system of the game.

“ALRIGHT EV-ERY-BODY!!! Let’s get this dig on tha way! Today we gotta somethin’ special for ya’ll! Celebrating the 3rd anniversary of Net Slum, we’re throwin’ it down in remembrance of our very own custom server!”

The party gathering started nearly immediately, the music changed to a vibrant beat, getting everybody who came pumped to dance. When there were a sufficient amount of people gathered, he started his standard actions for beginning the party.

“For all of you rumor-mongers out there, today’s rumor is… supposedly here on the 3rd Anniversary of tha disappearance of Lia Fail, by puttin’ in three special keywords right ‘ere in Omega Server you can teleport back to the original root town! How crazy is dat!”

A section of of the area, despite the noise, was rather quiet. A woman in blue robes simply sat down, listening to the sound around her. A few wavemasters were around her. They were talking to her, seeming to wait for her nods and sparse few words. One hand lifted up to show a scroll to explain a specific spell. The person had green eyes, her body relaxed despite the rather loud noise around her. "Ice cannot be mixed with flames." She spoke simply, noting a question near her as she brought one hand up to let the person look at the scroll.

“Brace!” Black Beard shouted, gripping tight to the wheel of his glorious galleon as the enormous dragon sent his ship hurtling through the skies with a slap of it’s tail. The One Sin 2: Electric Boogaloo, an epic quest to celebrate the newly released update for airships, pitted a fleet of captains against the latest incarnation of the legendary monster. “Bring in the sails!” He crowed as he spun the wheel hard getting the Queen Anne’s Revenge back under control just in time to slip the masts between two other ship’s hulls. “Full canvas!” The captain roared and brought the ship back around at full speed to bear down upon the beast once more. “Port side, ready the heated shot!” He heartily cheered as he circled the beast. “On my command!” As the One Sin opened its mouth, Black Beard declared. “Steady! Steady! And… FIRE!” The cannons roared choking the dragon’s breath attack in its throat, striking for massive damage and felling the monster with the fiery volley, “Yarharharhar! What a prize boys!”

This was all, of course, merely a daydream, as Yuuki recalled, coming back to reality. Black Beard stood upon the prow of the airship as it finished up its route through the Carmina Gadilica skies. He lowered his cutlass and sheathed it just before getting teleported back to the sad pitiable excuse of an airship port. “Riding around on a set track… can’t even go below deck; ships are not trains. Especially not airships. If I ever find the landlubber that thought this was good enough I shall make them walk the plank!" Yuuki's reminder went off, she pulled the M2D long enough to check her phone. "Oh yeah, Tango-kun's party in Omega is starting." She made sure her headphones were on good and dove back into the game.

Black Beard hurried to the gate and transported to Net Slum. "Yarharharhar! Ahoy me hearties!" He shouted and started looking for anyone she knew since while Yuuki would be perfectly happy just listening to the music, it was ultimately a party. He found one sitting in a relatively quiet corner surrounded by wavemasters. "Hecate!" He shoved two of the wavemasters aside. "Ms. Hecate, the captain wants to see you up on deck."

The Hero of Zeit!

Post by Haseo{Terror of Death} »

The background music was always different in the fake Lia Fail when “The Noisemaker” logged in, Akira knew this but it didn't stop him from smiling and tapping his foot in real-life. A small rhythm filled his soul and he shook it out as Akira attempted to get into what he called “Tetsumode 41”, which was just a cute name for roleplaying as a hero in a game where the grandest hero now did nothing but play games or show off his pretty wings.

Rumors were the life-force of society, with enough belief any rumor could become true, or reach a status so ascended that people wholeheartedly believed it. The rumor that slung off the DJ's tongue of the Omega server was just this. Tetsuo 41 smirked with excitement, “Go back to the real Lia Fail eh? Wouldn't that be a treat?” Unfortunately he had no starting point and no way to go about this investigation so he merely scoured the town for information.

His online presence wasn't very well-known yet, so the forums weren't super convenient, plus he'd just logged in, to log back out, while completely trivial and simple wasn't very heroic at all. He would at least stay here for a little, showing his worth as a big face in this game, finally able to access this server was a privilege and everyone here was someone whose recognition was worth Tetsuo 41's time.

The ostentatious DJ continued to rant on about the celebration, mostly off of the mic so he could barely be heard even by those closest to the sound stage. While the blazing music took a BPM drop, it still continued to pound throughout the server, he sat back for a minute to catch his rapidly-deteriorating voice up with himself.

"Gah... I should really stop screamin' so much, gonna make me mute onenathese days, can't be havin' that."

After collecting himself, he stood back up, and resumed his usual persona, and went right back to screaming; "GOTTA GET IT DOWN! Give it UP for tha Net Slum!"

Just arriving in Net Slums after work Dian notices the party. "Thats new." He says having never been online at the same time as one of The Noisemaker's parties before, looks for a spot that is calmer to sit down and enjoy his tea. He finds himself near what appears to be a group of wavemasters and tries not to bother them. Pulls out a water pot and starts brew some tea while sharpens his blades.
This is the loudest party I've been to I understand the music but its too loud. I couldn't really have a conversation even if i wanted right now.

Either Hecate would come with him to enjoy the party proper or she wouldn't, Black Beard wasn't going to argue, and for all he knew she was feeling like helping the other wavemasters master their waves, so he turned to see if any of his other former crewmen were around. He spotted an older looking man, making tea in the middle of a party. "Tea! What a wonderful idea!" He thought aloud, Yuuki's voice cutting through the background noise. He approached Dian greeting him jovially, "Ahoy! You look vaguely familiar, have I captained you before?"

(I was only gone for a few hours. Give me time to respond?)

Hecate's eyes looked at the shoved wave masters. Their responses showed they were alright. She finished what she had to explain in her way, walking towards the person who was currently asking for her attention. Without saying a word, she simply tapped the pirate lightly on the shoulder. Her gaze was as calm as usual. Of course, that also meant that she was not sure exactly what would be happening or required of her through the pirates on the ship. It seemed strange, but she was used to constant interruptions and having varied responses to them.

Dian puts his blades down and looks up at the well-dressed pirate. "Oh hello there. No I don't think we have had a chance meeting before. I'm Dian The Viridian Slash you do I have the pleasure of making aquaintance with?" said Dian as he pours himself some of the jasmine tea he brewed. takes a sip of his tea and return to work on his blades while keeping eye contact with the pirate. he starts to tap his foot with the beat. I didn't know there were pirates in this game well you see something new everyday.

((Apologies, I'll work on my virtues.))
He withdrew his blade and struck a pose, pointing it skyward dramatically. "Why I am The Great Pirate Captain Black Beard, of course!" Black Beard put his weapon back away. "Come on, this is a party, bring your rum and let's go dancing up on the top deck with the DJ!" He took Hecate's hand with his own and sent her a party request, didn't want to go losing her in the crowds after all, and took a step towards the DJ, but halted and turned back to Dian conspiratorially. "But keep yer eyes peeled, we may catch a tailwind and find a map to Lia Fail, there is sure to be great plunder and fortune awaiting whomsoever finds that prize."

"A map to Lia Fail? i have only been on The World for about a month. A quiet month in fact so I have not heard much about the past. What is Lia Fail?" said Dian while starting to pack up his blade and sharpening tools so he can follow. Keeping his ears on blackbeard open for information and drinking his tea while he scans the room for any suspicious behavior. There all alot of secrets in The World to be found. it will enjoyable to discover all the hidden secrets.
Wait Is he trying to recruit me for his pirate crew?

Rumors Remixed

Post by twilight_keeper »

Something caught the DJ's eye, which happened to be a somewhat familiar face among the crowd, the only pirate ever to exist in The World; at least to his knowledge. seriously, who makes a pirate in a game with no boats... still funny though, keh heh heh... With an overly exaggerated motion, he motioned to the buccaneer in what was clearly an over-the-top false swaggering motion.

"Let's get something perfectly clear, I still think your character is stupid looking, keh ha ha! But anyways, joking aside, I've got some great news for a lead on some seriously boss treasure... You wanna hear?" He leaned in over the tables, trying to get uncomfortably close but failing due to the lack of ability to contort a character body over a table, so in general it more looked like he was pushing ineffectually against the solid object with his upper body leaned over it. "I hear it's some kinda special event, like HUGE! If you can find the place where its supposedta be hidden, you'll gain ultimate power or some jazz like that. Kinda sounds like One Sin all over again, ya dig?"

His face seemed to be filled with a strange contortion of ire and humor simultaneously, a somewhat mocking expression, clear that his thoughts on the matter were more towards the side of hoax than official event, but he could never be too sure. Rumors tended to fly very quickly, and there was always at least a sliver of truth in each one, no matter who spun the story. His own was a variation on what he had heard a few days ago about the legendary disappearance of the original Omega Server, which is what inspired him to throw this party to begin with.

After throwing another exaggerated gesture, this time a skyward fist pump, he turned again to BlackBeard "...buuuut, I'd never be too careful with this kinda thing, could be somethin' really exciting, ya know? Hella dangerous too, you remember those rumors about what happened three years ago right?"

"Lia Fail, a legendary land that once stood where we stand now. Lost afore a single boot landed on these here shores." Black Beard was, perhaps, not the best person to ask if you wanted a straight answer or even one in game terms.

Hungrily, Black Beard said, "The ultimate prize, eh?" Yuuki's high pitched laughter erupted from the pirate's throat at the DJ's cautioning words. "The only thing certain in a pirate's life once he's raised the black flag is danger, Mr. Souzoushii. Now spill what ye know of this prize afore we spill yer guts all over this here deck. Ain't that right me hearties!" He exclaimed, looking to Dian and Hecate for support. He wasn't actually threatening the DJ, and not only because he really couldn't do anything as long as they were in a root town, Yuuki just thought it would be more piratey if she did.
